Author: Two Blondinis
Subject: 7326
Posted: 10 May 2007 at 10:54am

We went to see the lovely Homeopath lady (Shona) last night, who took a bit of a shine to Caitlin, (Lil' Miss was dancing and singing with her LOL) and she even cried when I told her about what my poor girl has been through.

She's still convinced that it has something to do with her reacting to her jabs (she's allergic to the Pertussis (whooping cough) one) even though when they gave her a different type of WC jab last time she was fine, not even a raised temp. So I've now been given the task of finding out what the vaccine is cultured on as Caitlin might have an egg allergy (the jab has been known to be cultured on egg) I'm not 100% convinced on this theory but I'll do my homework.

Shona was interested to hear that brown sugar water is the only thing that makes Caitlin go so has given us an "energy of molassus" concoction that shoud work the same but without the bad stuff of the brown sugar (molassus is the laxitive bit of brown sugar). If that doesn't work over the next few days to keep her regular then we're to go back and try some other treatments for what she thinks is just a slugish bowel that has been through too much stress from her birth, the reaction to her jabs and her original constipation problem (when she was 9wks old) topped off with the stress she picks up from me and hasn't had the opportunity to have a good recovery and that is what is making Caitlin hold "it" in, which makes sense!

She could see how upset I am over all of this and told me that I need to relax for the both of us, she gave me a bach flower remedy to drink to "chill me out and help me sleep tonight", she also said to give a tiny drop to Caitlin. I can't remember the last time I was in bed and asleep by 8pm! We both slept straight through the night and I feel great today!

I can't recommend Shona enough! Hopefully she'll be able to sort Caitlin's problem out soon

The only thing that does make her go is water with 1/2 teaspoon of brown sugar but that can't be good for her to have all the time

Many months ago we went to a Homeopath who put it down to her reaction to her jabs had just stressed her little body out too much and the pooping thing was just all too much for her. The stuff she gave us worked like everything else - for 2 weeks. I've got an appointment to go again tomorrow and see what she thinks this time as I feel we have exhausted modern medicine

As for the Soy/Goat formula - we were advised not to even try those as they are only for babies with dairy allergies and they wouldn't be good for Caitlin, which apparently she doesn't have. Paed said this would have shown up when I was BFing her. Back then she used to cough and poo!

As long as she is eating lots to get all the nutrients etc.. that she needs I dont see the harm in trying it for a week or two. if she is still having trouble then you know its not the formula and you could put her back onto it. and as you said maybe ask at a healthcare shop or chemist if there is some supplements you could give her with the cows milk to make it as good for her as possible. Ive thought about putting Addi onto cows milk and sometimes she steals kobes milk and has had no problems with it.

You could try cows' milk watered down maybe? But since you have a paed, this is something I'd definitely run by him first. And don't worry about the bf decision hun, it's been and done and the paed is there to help you move forward.

She still needs her formula. I know of some kids that find it hard to poop and they actually put them on medication for it.

Just go have a chat with them and see if they can resolve it. If you dont get the answers you are looking for demand it until you get it.

How this is still happening I'll never know when she is on 7mls of laxitive (normal dose should be 1ml and the max is 10mls), she's also having plenty of fruit (mostly kiwi fruit) and also drinking heaps of fluids, at least 400mls (water and very diluted baby juice) so we're doing everything the Paed told us to do!

Anyways... I know you can introduce cows milk from 12 months (just over 2 months away). But what I wanted to know was, would it be possible to introduce it a bit earlier with perhaps a multi vitamin or something to ensure she continues to get everything that she needed from the formula? (there are no dairy issues on either side so I'm not worried about that) I know it's not recommended etc but I'm getting a bit beyond desperate here and want to get her off formula ASAP That's the only thing I can imagine that is left in her diet that would bung her up.

Anyone have any experience of this?

I'd like your opinions before I suggest it to the Paed (who would probably like to burn me at the stake for not BFing her longer)
