Hi

I used to work in a health shop and have long had an interest in herbal medicines so did some research in acadmic journals before finding a naturopath who is also a doctor. I also had acupuncture some years ago for a long-term medical condition that appears to be completely resolved after acupuncture, so of course I'm quite a fan. My DH had a similar attitude to yours - 'let nature take it's course' until it became clear that nothing was gonna happen that way. He's been taking vitamins and herbal medicines to improve his count and motility and counteract the antibodies for about 8 months now, and has recently started acupuncture (which has had the side-effect of making him an absolutely perfect, relaxed, un-stressed love-god!) and is doing a sperm test on Friday, so please cross your fingers for us! My husband and I just had a big talk about this last night as I have been really worried about the antibodies. He said we should just let nature take it's course. I had to convince him that I didn't want to go through months of thinking their was a chance of us getting pregnant when there wasn't. As he has said he doesn't want to get all scientific about making a baby. If there is antibodies,then that is the end of the line for us.
So I said I would rather find out now,so I can get use to the idea of no babys.
So yes it is on the top of my list,when we do the next sample.
Thanks for the reassurance to about the time frame. I am hoping,and fingers and toes crossed that that is the way with us.

Hi
I just want to reiterate the importance of getting the antibodies test done, as Lulu says. This isn't done routinely as part of sperm testing, so make sure your doctor has written it on the form. As your DH has scar tissue and previous surgery, he's more likely to have the antibody issue - altho the good news is that the shorter the time between the vasectomy and the reversal, the better your chances, so it probably balances out.

Hi Purple Dragon - we have already talked via PM on the everybody.co.nz board... so you already know my story, but to summarise...
DH got a vasectomy when we decided we didn't want children when I was around 25 years old. 5 years later we changed our minds so we got a reversal. The reversal was successful, but after TTC for 2.5 years we went for further testing and discovered that while the sperm were getting through, DH was creating antibodies that killed the sperm, so we couldn't conceive naturally. Usually this scenario happens if it has been quite a long time between vasectomy and reversal, as the body thinks that the sperm are 'disease' and create the antibodies to fight the disease. My one MAJOR recommendation is to insist that they test for the antibodies straight away. There is no point in going what we did for 2.5 years when you could find this out straight away.

It's funny you saying about working with one barrel. When my husband had the vasectomy,he had scar tissue from an operation he had as a kid and they said they thought he had been working on one barrel in the first place and managed to make 2 babys. But the surgeon said he definetly joined up both sides.
We have to send in another sample as they said their wasn't enough of sample to do test.
I didn't realise their was so many rules to sending in a sample as when we sent in the sample after vasectomy,they never gave us any rules.
Yes it is funny about the 18mth mark.

he he,, didn't go through reversal.. just had mike's one obviously not owrk - we are picking since his samples show "moderate" amounts that one side didn't work.. as that side was the one that had alot of bleeding and they had alot of trouble with tying and cauterising .. i guess it just still grew back together!

anyways.. I am proof that well, even with only working with a single barrel that pregnancy happens, lol..

Good luck. apparently vasectomies have a high rate of people wanting reversals at about the 18 mth mark after having them.. funny that.

Hi there,
Would love to chat to others going through this experience.
I seem to look every where and can't seem to find any one going through this.
I am sure I am not the only one.
My husband is a healthy 31yr old who had a vasectomy reversal just over 8 weeks ago.
There is only 18mths between vasectomy and reversal.
Look forward to chatting to anyone who has gone through this experience with success or is going through it,right now.
