Not meaning to be contradictory, but we don't have too much trouble with teething or unsettledness here, so if I'm sure it's teething I use bonjela and otherwise I go with Pamol. Mel, it must be an Ella thing We had lots of trouble with teething here, and pamol was always a last resort for us too.. there would have been an hour or more between each thing (although have used pamol and bonjela together too). I am also in the paranoid mummy group!

Jax, don't take things too seriously.. I've used bonjela, teething powder and pamol one after the other, on the advice of a pharmacist.
She looked them all up and assured me that it would be okay. (I am a paranoid Mummy too) Ella had an awful time getting her molars and the combination of the 3 really helped settle her down.

I dosed the evil Mercedes wench up on both Pamol and Bonjela last night, altho I suspect her grizzling was related to the corn still working thru her system.

i remember sending hubby to the chemist once when he worked in the mall and said bring me home something for gabriel cause hes teething...expecting bonjela.
when he came home he had those teething drops and i was like what are these???   i dont recall they ever did anything for him but then again it was only once that his teeth even hurt when teething. Toby on the other hand had 4 came up in 2 days and was in obvious distress about it.

i always did the bonjela to stop the immediate pain of the tooth, and i swear that half of it was the rubbing that was more soothing...and then pamol for the "lets have a good sleep" relief. oh and i keep mine in the fridge.

I'm going to try my best to be diplomatic, but it's a hard thing to do when your feelings have been hurt.

I might be a first time mum, but I am not stupid !!

On the advice of both my GP and a naturopath, I am doing what is best for my baby considering the situation - Erin has had no less than seven teeth come through in the last 10 months, and I don't expect it to slow down.

I didn't just jump into the deep end and start giving the different remedies to her all at once. Pamol is usually my last resort, and most often I will give a little Bonjela and the Teethmed spray. I might be impatient by nature, but I understand that nothing is instant - and I would never be careless with my little girl's health.

Anyway, it might be all the hormones talking (I wish effing AF would just show up !!!)... but I need some time out. This was so not the response I was expecting when I contributed here with the intention of being helpful.

I'm lucky Ashlee doesn't have any problems with teething (rub, rub, rub hehe). I never got told any of this by any medical professional when buying Pamol and/or Bonjela. In the UK, the company that manufactures Bonjela (Reckitt Benckiser) also manufactures childrens paracetamol under the brand name Disprol. This from their website:


If your baby is very distressed during teething it is acceptable to use both Bonjela Teething Gel for localised pain relief and Disprol Paracetamol Suspension for fever and pain relief together.

I was told NEVER to take St Johns Wort with the pill (SJW cancels the pill), this was after my Swamp Witch episode on the Pill.

My GP who also does a bit of Homeopath type treatments and has always said do one or the other not both (conventional Vs alternative), just in case.

I am very wary of giving any medicine, and I usually wait it out.. but having been through teething with a little girl who was in lots of pain, I was willing to mix medicine to give her some comfort (and some sleep for both of us!!).

btw - yes, at the advice of a health practitioner

pamol is a medicine which is pretty neutral to other medicines, and with homeopathic remedies, most of the ones sold in the chemist don't react with anything else.. st johns wort does and there are probably a few others, but you will be told by your pharmacist when you purchase it.

I would be inclined to agree that you shouldn't mix any of it. They're not tested to see what happens when mixed with other products (perhaps I'm just paranoid?)
