You more than likely have gingivitis. It is from infected and irritated gum tissue.Brush with food grade hydrogen peroxide and baking soda every other day, preferably before you go to bed. Put some peroxide in a small cup and dip your toothbrush in and put baking soda in the palm of your hand and dab the wet toothbrush in the soda.Orthodontics is also suitable option for dental problem.

I was a qualified DA for 6 years before i left to have kids. Still get phoned about work stuff after 4 years, lol. Dont want to go back though. yea its awsome i love it been doing it for almost 3 years now and we do alot of g/a stuff at the hospital which is neat.

Interesting about savacol, apparently in Europe they use it long term and just put up with the staining as a side effect of having healthy gums so DH tells me.

I find teeth and dentistry quite interesting. im a chairside assistant and yes we definatly see some interesting things especially with pregnant women and some of the "old wives" tales that they have been told about going to a dentist are really hilarious and completly untrue lol

just me, You should probably see a dental hygienist rather than a dentist (hopfully the dentist will refer you to one). Bleeding gums during pregnancy(pregnancy gingivitis) Is caused by your body reacting more agressivly to the plaque bacteria, due to changes in hormone levels and your body's immune system.
It is really important that you do get you teeth cleaned regularly even when you are pregnant as there have been studies done to link gum disease with pre-term births and low birth weights. Its great that you are flossing,make sure your floss is getting right under the gums (as this is where the plaque bacteria lives) and not just between the teeth. I have also read that vitamin C taken daily can help strengthen veins etc so could possibly be helpful in pregnancy gingivitis. I havent had huge problems and I take my vit C every day. id just like to say to everyone reading this that its perfectly fine to go to the dentist while pregnant!! as alot of people think that you shouldnt, which is just an old wives tale!
just make sure you tell the dentist your pregnant and no xrays before 16 weeks.
local anasthetic for dental treatment is also fine, doesnt affect the baby.
ive seen so many people come into my work after having their baby with the mort horrific dental problems as they didnt think it was safe to go to the dentist while pregnant, it is its perfectly fine and you are harming yourself and your baby more by not going if you have a problem, as infections can get really serious and require antibiotics and evn i.v drips

I have just managed to make an appointment with a dentist down near the ferry building in Auckland. Can't get in 'til Friday avo though but better than nothing I suppose! Dentist also said i should come in because gums aren't just bleeding they're swollen & sore. Feels a bit like after you've had a hot cuppa & you scald the inside of your mouth/gums.. bit painful &.. feels bit odd really! not nice..

thanks topsy, I do floss & brush my teeth daily, I have good dental hygieneI have been using a mouth wash for the past few months as well.

I have had sensitive gums since the 2nd trimester of my pregnancy.. I know that bleeding gums are a common issue in pregnancy -whoever; I don't think I can put off the dentist for any longer because they aren't feeling that good.

I will try out the salt mouth wash you mentioned - thanks alyayde

bleeding gums are just part of pregnancy, due to increased blood flow.
when you brush your teath dont scrub accross them. go up and down or in really small circles.
electric tooth brushes are good coz u can miss the gums and place them on the teeth.

Do you floss? I floss once a day and my gums are great. If I dont floss for a couple of days they tend to bleed when I brush (gingavitis is in the famaily). It is amazing how food caught between your teeth can affect your gums so much. If you do decide to floss now be careful as it will probably hurt and bleed to start off with. I would still check with a dentist for piece of mind. It is very common as your blood flow is increased when pregnant hense your gums bleed more easily. Try a salt mounth rinse (if you can stomach it) a teaspoon of salt in half a glass of warm water. keep brushing your gums to keep them healthy. Yes, bleeding gums are a common issue for many women in pregnancy. I have a book on pregnancy which mentions this - but wasn't sure how bad it gets before you're supposed to visit the dentist, but feel that I can't leave them any longer which is why I really want to find a good dentist on monday.

I have also read that issues with your teeth that develop & go untreated in pregnancy have been linked to pre-eclampsia & also premature labour.

Not sure if this is helpful or not - I took my son to the dentist and slyly mentioned to her that I was having bleeding gums, and she mentioned it's quite common for pregnant woman to have that, and not to be too concerned, she even went as far as saying to just keep brushing your teeth when it happens.

Your's sounds a like you should probably get it investigated a little further. hi there

I wondered if anyone else has been having similar issues with their gums?

My gums have been giving me grief for just over a month now.. I have held off going to the dentist - hoping that they would get better but they are now quite puffy & swollen in some areas. (After brushing -my gums have bled every day for the past month.)

This morning I brushed my teeth with a soft toothbrush & afterwards they bleed quite badly & now i can see physical damage around my gums in the top part of my two front teeth in particular - they look like they have torn a bit

Also wondered if anyone can recommend a good dentist to me in the Auckland central area? I havn't been to one in Auckland since I moved here.. I'm going to have to get this sorted first thing monday!
