Author: SMoody
Subject: 8114
Posted: 12 June 2007 at 9:43am

We flew with McKayla at 9and a half months. 11 hours to Singapore. 3 days stay over and then another 10 hours to Auckland. At that age I feel it goes really well with them.

If you are bfding then Bf on the way up and down. Helps keep the earways open as it can cause a lot of pain during taking off and landing. If you dont take a dummy with or a bottle. If nothing else works then take a popsicle while holding her let her suck on it. (tip a guy gave me that use to go flying with his dad since he was a bubs)

You can get some stuff from a dr to make them a bit loopy but I didnt use any. I did end up using Stopayne in Singapore before the flight to calm her down a bit before flying. HUGE mistake. It made her really hyper. At 9 months she wont need as much toys as such in the flight. She will most propably look around get bored and go to sleep. (hopefully) My one was asleep the whole time except for an hour.

All by myself... I'm nowhere near as brave as Emma is, travelling to and from Oz with all three of her girls, but it was pretty brave of me at the time. In hindsight, there were lots of things I would have done differently, number one being: TRY to travel light (on the plane, that is). Schlepping through the airport with a huge carryon and a heavy baby was NOT fun. Trying to hold my baby and haul my overpacked luggage off the carousel at JFK airport -- no help in sight, of course -- was NOT fun. I found the baby front-pack to be a lifesaver, and when we go back this year, I'm taking an umbrella stroller to make things even easier.

Good luck! It's not impossible, and it can even be quite fun. :)
