Im sorry to hear that all is not well. At least now you know relatively what is going on. It can be so frustrating not knowing. I know this wont help you feel any better, and you will work thru it in your own time, but I guess this is my ham-footed way of saying Im thinking of you.

Well, have had my appt with the gyn, have been given a tablet or two to move things along, they're 99% sure it's a miscarriage. Then I have my cervical treatment and a laparoscopy on 16 July. My hcg results are still at 20 (they went up in the last 2 days) but yeah. I agree ginger - I just wish rather than keep testing for the same thing, they'd look to see what is actually wrong instead of maybe this, or maybe that.

DF is just as frustrated as I am, although the thing he is most concerned about (being a man and all) is when we can have sex again, as the doctor told me not to have sex cos if it is a miscarriage, semen can cause an infection in the uterus while it's healing. So all he wants to know is when he can get some action again!!! Apparently it's supposed to drop quickly...whereas I went down 1 over the space of 2 days, then 10 over the space of 5 days...I dunno much anymore!! What is typical of hcg with m/c? I know it's supposed to drop but I don't know the numbers. Well I'm about ready to strangle some doctors and demand serious investigations to find out just what the heck is going on with me. My hcg has come down to 17, from 28 a week ago - not typical of a m/c. According to the doc, the scan is indeterminate. An ectopic cannot be ruled out. An internal was painful. Hey mini, sorry to hear about everything

I had a D&C 3 years ago. It was pretty straight forward.
I booked into the hospital at 9 in the morning, they got me set up in a bed in the day stay unit and gave me a medication to dilate my cervix. I wasn't allowed anything to drink after 8pm the night before, so I was pretty dehydrated - they let me have a mouthful of water to swallow the pill.
By 2pm I'd gone into surgery (general anaesthetic) and was awake again by 3pm. They'd hooked up IV fluids so I felt much more hydrated.
It was pretty rough waking up. It was a bit of a shock and I had a little bit of bleeding and cramping. But I felt like myself physically a couple of days later.

Of course, emotionally it's not a great time. But physically it's fairly unintrusive.

I had a dand c after my last miscarriage, and I know Janine had one recently too. It's usually day surgery, you have a general anaesthetic and then gently scrape out your uterus to remove any tissue remaining that shouldn't be there. I was just thinking about you today Kate. If your hormone levels drop and you do have a m/c, you will most likely experience the "baby blues", a few days of feeling kinda depressed. Watch your iron levels if you continue to bleed too. The thing that I have found with the gyn etc. at Waikato is that you are just another patient... nothing else. Just another NHI number really. My GP has been in contact with them and basically they don't want to know unless I'm still bleeding, and only then because it means the treatment won't go ahead. Answers would def be good though!! My doc has actually been fantastic, he's not my usual GP (who has left the Uni Health Centre as I found out) but he's been far more proactive than any other doc I've ever dealt with - I've had all the blood tests done for TTC and he's told me that once we start ACTIVELY trying, if nothing has happened after 6 months (because of our ages) then he will be taking action. That was a load off my mind.

BS - DF is...hrmm...not handling it so well. He even chose a boy's name just in case (we had already chosen a girl's name) and now...yeah, not so good. I'm testing that I have been/am pregnant and am either having a miscarriage or am in EARLY pg - although my hcg levels aren't rising, or falling...scan shows no pg, unless it's too early to show, and no m/c... but hcg levels are still high 20s...The doctor reckons he may do some reading this weekend to try and find other cases similar...

Scan was....anticlimactic really. No sign of pg, or ectopic or anything. So could still be a really early pg, but that doesn't explain the numbers. There is a 4cm x 4.5cm cyst on my right ovary though, which has almost doubled in size in just over 2 months...

My doctor has said this is out of his expertise, he doesn't know what else could be happening except maybe I'm very very rare and have a cyst that is producing hcg. Thanks BS - BBS just increased the yearning really!! I am off for an ultrasound at 4pm today as basically the doctors are baffled, they don't know what's going on, and they want answers as well. I can only say that following a MC (if that is what is happening) often comes the best bubba of all...thats what happened to us last year and look where we are now..

I'm sorry you haven't got support from your mum at this time. With the hcg changes I was wondering perhaps if there were twins and you still have one? Doesn't sound like your levels would be high enough though. Pretty baffling. I'm frustrated. I'm supposed to have treatment for CIN cells in 13 days, which they won't do if pg or bleeding...if I'm def not pg, then I want stuff sorted so I can get my treatment over and done with!! I'm just so up and down and feel like throttling someone until they give me a straight answer...even DF asking, and I can only tell him - I'm not pg with a viable foetus, but it's not going anywhere fast either...so he says well are you or aren't you? Well I've been to the doc for my second set of bloods... I get the results this afternoon. He looked at it, and if I actually conceived last week, then my hcg level is in the normal range. But the blood makes things uncertain. Hugs Kate Sorry, I asked a question on your other thread but you kinda answered it here. You are still really early in your cycle though which might explain why your hcg levels are low. Was that the only reason he thought you might be m/c'ing?

Well, talk about ups and downs all in the same day. My blood tests came back and the doc is astounded that I even managed to get a positive test, my hcg levels are so low (28) so he has put it down to me actually having a miscarriage as we speak. I had a colposcopy for CNI and the surgeon dude said that getting pregnant was the best way of sorting out the problem, so hopefully pregancy will be a good thing for me in that respect.

Ok I went to the doctor...the test there was very faint (I showed him the one I did at home this morning but he wanted to confirm) so he's done urgent bloods, as I may need to go to the Early Pregnancy Clinic tomorrow for a scan. He's baffled because it shouldn't be showing up so clearly if I only ovulated last week...so he wants to get a dating scan, and also keep an eye on me because of the bleeding...

fleury - I kept it quiet cos I did it at 5am this morning!!!! I haven't even had a chance to tell DF yet - waiting for him to get home for breakfast (he was at work at 5am).

Yep, cramps are normal, they are usually your uterus starting to expand. It would pay to goto your doctor to confirm the pregnancy and then just to make sure all is okay with the bleeding and cramps. Sometimes it can be fresh blood. Like I explained on bumblefoots thread (she asked the same thing last week) the ovum literally blasts out of the ovary and this causes your lining to sometimes shift this is old and new blood. You say that you are having surgery coming up, is that for CIN? Could be that if you do have precancerous cells that do need removing they might be playing a little havoc as well. I honestly thing that if you are worried about it then contact your OBGYN that is performing the surgery. I would definately recommend a pregnancy test. I had the same thing and it turned out to be implantation bleeding. Do you still have sore boobs? I haven't done any pg tests recently no - I thought about it because I've been feeling really nauseous lately, but thought bleh. I haven't been having treatment for anything lately, although I do have ovarian cysts - also thought it could be one of them bursting, but then it wouldn't be old blood would it? And cysts are supposed to be very painful when they burst, and I haven't had any pain over and above my usual pain... Okay, I posted in the Waiting for Ovulation thread last week that I wasn't sure what was happening, because it looked like AF had arrived, but I really don't know what's going on!! Last Monday I started bleeding, not much, only enough for a liner - it was brown blood and I thought okay, maybe it's just ovulation bleeding (I had my usual O pain and sore boobs etc etc). BUT it's still happening a week later. 95% of the time it's brown blood, but there have been a few occasions of bright red blood. This is NOT normal for me. Does anyone have any ideas what it could possibly be? Alternatively, how long should I wait before going to the doctor?
