nah, it's what i tell most parents, unless there's reason to think otherwise. Mostly, once babies are past the worst of it, and start to bounce back.. they do so pretty quickly. I had 2 weeks in there. I was very lucky that Palmy hospital has boarding rooms for mothers who have babies in the NNU. I was discharged to one of those rooms on day 4.

Well good news, baby is able to be removed from ICU for breastfeeding now and then goes straight back into the incubator! In the hospital I was staying one of the nurses(?) took an instant photo and I was able to have that in the ward (considering I couldn't exactly go visit my own baby ). My sister had a c-section last Saturday, she was only 33w6d, she hasnt been able to bf as bubs is in the nicu and is too tiny to bf (only 2lb 9oz when born) but she has been able to express so bubs is still getting the goodness of breast milk. Well I have just heard that the baby is in ICU as she has water on the lungs so she can't breastfeed anyway at the moment.

I was just interested to know that's all!

I found this with my elective c/s, it took a while for my milk to come through so Sam was very very angry and frustrated with me, but it didn't take long for the colostrum to come and I was feeding him that night.

I actually bled a WHOLE lot the night after my surgery, so much that I had to have drugs to help my uterus contract more as they thought I had clots. It was an awful feeling, as it just kept coming and coming and coming..

Oh and same as the others, when I stood up, HUGE gushes!   But the night I bled continuously for five minutes at a time lying down, which was a problem as I lost quite a lot of blood.

I breast fed straight away with no problems.

As for the bleeding I am the same as Shirena. As soon as I stood I had a massive hemirage (sp?)

You start bleeding straight after any kind of birth and when you bf your uterus contracts down so you are more likely to gush while bfing.

You can absolutely still bf after a c/s. It is painful to put the baby across your tummy and a big soft fat pillow helps to ease or spread the pressure. Sometimes with elective c/s, it takes a bit longer for the body to register that the baby has been born and the milk needs to come through. Cant tell you about breast feeding as my boy was in NNU so by the time I was able to try him at the boob I was already walking around etc.

Yip you can breastfeed immediatly and yip you do bleed soon after as well. I was hooked up to drips and catheter for the first day. (they didnt wanted me walking the first day and night)

But when I woke up (was totally under), hubby brought my girl in put her on me and told me she wants boob. She latched on herself. It was a bit awkward sometimes but I just put a pillow on my lap to keep weight as much of tummy as possible.

When I got up at 4 in the morning and they changed me I stood for a bit and all of a sudden just felt blood rushing down my legs and I warned them but they were too busy changing bed. They were totally freaked and tried to tell me it is normal but I thought it was as I was lying the whole time of course it is going to rush down now. Silly people. And Yip it was totally normal. I'm being nosey here!

My SIL had a C section this morning, it was elective as she had a difficult birth with her first child.

Anyway my question is, can you still breastfeed straight away and do you start bleeding straight away after a C section?

I am just interested to know that's all!
