We've also got blackout type curtains in their rooms. We finally ended up moving Connor out of our room after he started waking at 5pm when our neighbours turn their lights on next to our bedroom. Eventhough it's light we don't notice, the little observant one took it as being party time.

We got a nightlight thinking she wouldn't like it if it was pitch black, but found she was waking at funny hours. Took the light out of her room, kept the hall light off and what do you know, she slept through with no troubles. It's one of those things you say 'I wish someone had told me that!'.

We both use our mobiles as our alarms... I can't sleep with them. I even make sure I turn the tv off at the button and not the remote, those lights annoy me and keep me from sleeping.... not sure why either.

When they were smaller I used a different monitor that had a noise activated night light so when they cried the light came on and and gave me enough light to see what I was doing. The curtains are the blackout type, but the light still comes through the gaps around the window which is what she notices...

As he goes to bed at 7pm, sometimes he is not tired and plays in his room till he get tired. We do, however notice a difference in summer whn it is lighter later and earlier in the morning.

Good on you for thinking of covering everything!! Just be careful that the covers dont get too hot. (Fire danger...)

    Author: pepsi
Subject: 8307
Posted: 16 June 2007 at 8:56am

The other morning at around 3am when I was up feeding Alyssa, I was sitting in her room trying to figure out how long it had been since I stopped needing to turn a light on to see what I was doing in there. You see, these days I have been able to walk in at night and see really well due to all the various light sources around the room so haven't used the actual lamp in ages.

There is a light on the heater, one on the clock, the angelcare monitor and more recently, the grobag egg! All this equals serious light pollution and I was starting to think maybe this is why Alyssa is waking and not being able to get back to sleep on her own? So yesterday evening before bed, I either turned off or covered everything emitting light and whoa, it was almost pitch black. Wouldn't you know it, Alyssa slept really well last night and was able to self settle!!

I guess I'll see if it works again tonight (fingers crossed). Does anyone else find that their baby's room is quite light from these kinds of things or do you use a night light?? Have you found this to be an issue for your baby?
