they can't endorse it as they have a chip in it now and its a scanned pic.
aS FOR CHILDREN WITH different surname as mother. It doesn't matter I have travelled with my kids with different surname (not with DH) and they didn't question it at all.. and so they shouldn't!
Kids passports last 5 years and now the new adults one last for 5 years too.
As long as you book your ticket in your maiden name you can fly with your maiden name passport. I would NOT book in your married name and only take your marriage cert with you as evendence its you as they will NOT except it.
The customs at USA wasn't as bad as what they made out it to be either - just been there around 3 weeks ago.

When did you have the endorsement done Peanut? Endorsemnets were removed 21 April 2005, right before I was about to get mine done. I didn't know they stopped endorsing as thats what I had done!

I think it was about $50 and they just put an amendment on page 4 saying that my married name was now xxxx and I had to go in and sign it in front of them.

Don't sign your kids passports tho - it says on the instructions that come with it that kids under 10 (12?) are not required to sign but that parents shouldn't sign on their behalf. You do have to sign the departure/arrival documents on their behalf tho. Go figure!

Maya "signed" hers and mine with bright green felt pen one afternoon after she helped herself to them in my drawer. OMG a friendly person at NZ passport office...NO!!!

Not too worried about the signing thing...actually I would rather sign than DH as person who applied for passport is the only person who they will deal with! (ok officially that is but we all know how that privacy act works!!!)

am more worried about usa to be honest so might revisit it before then....have a few months...

The most important thing when travelling is that the name on your ticket matches the name on your passport. If you're worried that the immigration people will question that you're Gabriella's mum, you can always take a copy of her birth certificate -- but they shouldn't have any issues.

My "official" last name is hyphenated (I'm in the process of changing it to my husband's last name) and Emma Rose has my husband's last name, so when we travelled to the US last year, our passports had two different last names. The border officials only cared that the names on the passports matched the names on the tickets.

And if you're still unsure, give the NZ passport office a ring -- they're actually surprisingly helpful on the phone! I rang them Thursday and asked several curly questions relating to immigration and permits and travelling, and the guy I spoke to was not only helpful, he was FRIENDLY! (Gasp!)

I have been travelling on my old passport with maiden name for bout 4 years now & have had no problems & will only re-new when it expires as the new cost (because of a chip in the passport) is now about $160 I think & the girls cost $88 I think, cost was nearly doubled so wont be in a hurry to change them also even adult passports are only valid for 5 years so you are paying double the price for 1/2 the time. Just so long as you book your ticket in your maiden name and it matches your passport I dont think there is an issue.

yeah that is what i am wondering...think i will take certified true copy with me of marriage cert and her birth cert to oz first as going without DH then ....hmmmm am guessing i can get that done pretty easy! LOL

Maya was 3 weeks old in her passport photo, and we've never updated it. Some dopey customs lady tried to tell me last time that she could "tell" by the face shape whether it was the same person, till I pointed out that all three of my girls have the same face shape.

As for changing your name, I wouldn't bother. As long as DH has the same name as bubs it isn't an issue. I would leave yours till it is due to expire it's an unnessersary cost.

Andrew's is still his baby photo and i'm not planning on getting a new passport as the price has gone up quite alot. But that has reminded me to see if he can still travel with the baby pic.

When you get Gabriella's passport get your DH to sign the forms as they have the same surnames on their passports so much easier.

If we need to travel with McKayla you just get another photo inserted or like a page or something going into the passport that updates it with a kid (or so I was let to believe.) Maybe just call and find out?

ok so a couple of questions

- if you get a baby passport do you change it in a few years or at normal expiry date...if bubs is only months old shouldnt it be updated sooner??? Dont they change and not look like their photos????
