yeah, i don't think mike's too happy with me ... bet he thinks i'm gonna change my mind and try and con him into another one. lol

i just keep telling myself that soon as, i'll be working in maternity or as a midwife and i'll get to help others through all that stuff, and get to hold little cute newbies... and actually GIVE THEM BACK when they cry.... lololol

Ana, it does feel weird aya! you wouldn't think it would but it does, you feel kinda empty-ish not having them in there... maybe that's why having more kiddies is so exciting.

I bought some tommee tippee washable ones but they get full really fast, tried some pigeon ones today but I don't like them - they are too plasticky.

Now that I can talk from experience I just wanted to say about the maternity pads - I found the Libra Goodnights much better than the Stayfree Maternity ones - they are like a big mattress, LOL

Aimee we are going to our first class tomorrow can’t wait. I think we are going to have 6, 3 hour classes...
I don’t know when they show that video but I am sure my husband will never look at me the same.....he he ha ha

I had some practice while growing up with my brother (8 years younger than me)...but it’s been a while and I would like to refresh my memory re the nappies, bath etc.

Roksana, antenatal classes were great, especially for the hubby's I think cos they seem to have no idea about labour etc. I found the labour ones a bit boring cos of my uni training, but the one where we learnt how to fold nappies, wrap baby etc was great. Feel a little less nervous now. Not so worried about the labour part, more how things will go when we get home - cant wait tho.

Do u get to watch labour videos at class? yeah mike says he is finding it harder this time to bond with Ayja... simply cos he is so close to Paris.. but what he has forgotten is that he was like this with Paris for ages, then they started getting close and being silly and she began to respond to him and do a bit more... i know he'll get better with Ayja once she is able to do the same and isn't just the loud squirmy noisy thing that always interupts!

Janine.....He is totally clueless about all this. We are starting our first Antenatal classes this Wed and I asked him if he is looking forward to it....he said he is because he feels that he does not know any thing! I said well....same here!

So I am hoping that he will get some ideas from these classes.....I also told him that this baby belongs to both of us and we will have to do things in turn...(Not feeding....LOL). So far he said that he is happy to. Mind you just like your man, mine gets frustrated really quickly and starts to stress! I have no idea what is ahead......

hows hubby going with all this too Roksana? something you said just reminded me about when i was preg with paris. i decided that no matter what, once paris was born.. i would encourage mike to be included..and even if i saw him doing something the hard way, or in a way that i thought was wrong, i would let him make the error for himself and learn from it. it was good cos he learnt that i wasn't gonna just come and take over, so he got more confident too. although i must say there were many times where i had to restrain myself, bite my tongue and walk away.. Hi Roskana - i used babywipes for a while just the pams ones they are just as thick and strong as any others but i then changed onto flannels and have done so ever since even for going out. also if you decide to get nappies from diapersexpress web from memory if you have too many of a certain size and the box isnt open i think you can exchange them - pay to check. and another great tip that i got told by nurse in neonatal unit when i first went out was to try panty liners instead of nursing pads as they stick to your bra and you dont have to keep adjusting them and they are cheap too. but i found with nappies it was trial and error for me as too what brands suited my boys best and i also use clothe napps.   good luck - i remember asking all my friends the very same questions lol

I found the cheap plastic overliners to be the best as they didn't leak as much (although nothing can contain an explosion!). Plunket recommend the plastic lined cloth ones as they apparantly breathe better, but we never had any real probs with nappy rash, and th eplain plastic ones are way cheaper.
Oh and we used the J&J liners, you can buy cheaper brand but I never tried them. They come in boxes of 100 so last for ages andmake great wetwipes too if you add a bit of water.

Judith..Thats what I plan to do as well, use cloth nappies and then disposables for when going out and at night. Again the baby wipes for when we are going out or in a hurry....

As for wipes, i didnt use them unless I was going out my mum brought me like 2kasqillion white flannels and a nappy bucket and 5 packs of napisan and I used flannels for his bum.. has any one else done this?? is it normal?? I thought it was normal because it was just what I did... Yep, I used huggies unscented wipes for my last one and I found they were the best. They are a good size and the thickest wipe. I tried the other brands and found the others were inferior.
As for nappys, I have tried(on shaun, of course,lol) Huggies, pams, budget, and a few other cheapy brand names and of all of them, treasures was the best. Normal treasures are great up till they start slepping through the night, then, I use treasures ultra, I dont remember finding shaun wet right threw, so they must be quite good.

I think it doesn't really matter too much which wipes you buy as they are all not ideal for babies' bums.

I find Hannah gets a rash if I use them for too long. She got a rash really fast with j&j wipes tho. lotssss of maternity pads is a good idea. i was bleeding for about 6 weeks but started using tampons after about 3 weeks.

If you can wait until after you give birth then thats the best time. But who can do that. Leave it as late as possible like sometime in the last 4 weeks. Also make sure that they have enough room in them for you to grow. the back of the libra maternity packet reckons you will need about 3 packs - and that was about right for me - then ordinary pads will be okay... apparently after a couple of weeks you can use tampons again but the thought of putting anything up there for a while didnt appeal to me...esp after my large headed baby...i felt a bit like that add with the pregnant lady surrounded by large headed people

I used cloth during the day for Maya and bought 3 doz, was great because I didn't have a dryer to start with so I needed plenty. Don't forget overnappies too, I used the cheap plastic ones (about $3.00 for 3 pairs from Kmart), the fluffies are useless, PLunket say the cloth lined plastic ones are best but they are about $5 a pair, and I found the cheap ones just as good.
We only bought 2 standard packs of Treasures Giggles newborns, and ended up pinching some Huggies from the hospital then my midwife gave me a bulk pack of disposables, so we ended up not starting with the cloths till 6 weeks. Also, Maya didn't really fit the newborn nappies as a newborn as she was quite big so I wish I had only bought one pack of newborn and one pack of small. On tiny babies it doesn't matter if the nappy is a little big as they only have small wees and they are changed frequently.

We use Treasures Ultra, I find the Huggies are bulkier, and the Giggles used to be fine, but now that Maya is only in nappies at night, she does huuuuuge wees at night and floods the Giggles.

if u opt for somewhere like diapers direct or nappy house (theres heaps more websites too) ask for a sample of each brandthey stock to try out on bubs so u cn find most suitable.i doid that for xander a few  wks ago cos im sik of havin a soaking child and bed in mornings.but i guess bubs has to b here before u can trial lol

1) not treasures nappies
2) try the other website for bulk nappies or else buy giggles and/or huggies
3) buy at least 3 more pack of maternity pads and few goodnight ones
4) look in to clothing nappie site

ha ha Ana, Giggles are all i use for my girls, night and day. I think it comes down to personal preference. if we had more money to spend on nappies i might buy huggies, but giggles suit me fine... I agree with Maria though, I HATE the treasures ultra.. the "stretchy wide waistband" is too wide and cut into paris when we tried them. and i didn't see too much difference in the absorbancy.

I was also told not to buy too many newborn disposables so we bought 2 packs of 28 or something as they were on special the other week and we had a coupon. We want to use cloth nappies too and were told about 3 dozen is right. IO don't know how many we have because they are all hand me downs, lol, but we have heaps.    The mums I have got to know here all say Treasures Giggles are not good nappies and the best are huggies...

I bought some reusable breast pads, tommee tippee ones but I thought I might get some throw away ones for a start...

If you haven't got any cloth nappies yet I would suggest looking into the new type of cloth nappies like www.fuzzibunz.co.nz as they are FANTASTIC and don't leak etc. I learnt about them too late but wish I hadn't, I would have stocked up on those! i got heaps of maternity pads from the hospital. Some people dont bleed for very long and others bleed for like 6 weeks. hhhhm depends. for the first few days you'll probably go through them pretty quick. i think i brought about 4 packs of the libra goodnights ones, and about 4 packs of the libra maternity ones in the pink packs. and that was it. it could be more, or less.. depends on you really, but hey if you get too many you can always use them later, if you don't have enough hubby won't appreciate being sent out at 10 at night cos you just realised you have run out (mike was not impressed).

Nursing pads/breast pads should be at the supermarket too. johnsons are better, treasures are terrible. lol i was told not to buy too many, and with paris she was in the newborn size for long enough for us to have brought at least 3 boxes!! with ayja we got around about 200 of newborn size but she gained weight quicker so we are now in the samll size. maybe buy a box of newborn and see what size your midwife thinks baby will be - you may have already had some sort of idea from scans.. usually they have a reading of how much baby weighs and how long and wide things like tummy and femurs etc are.. so may give you some idea of the size.

24 cloth naps is about right, although i must say, i never used them like i intended too but they come in handy for putting on the change mat. lol.

Hi Roksana, for my first son I had 24 cloth nappies, which was plenty. As for the disposables i wouldn't buy to many as they never seem to be in the newborn ones for long and a lot of it depends on the size of bubs. Hi all you mum's out there....

Help me out here.

I am thinking of buying nappies (disposable) and not sure how many to buy. I was thinking of buying them in bulk....e.g. Foodtown has Huggies new born 100pk for $38 and treasures newborn 112pk for $43.05. I dont want to buy too many newborn ones.....I am also planning to use cloth nappies for at home (dont know how many I need of those either).

Shed some light on this for me please.
