I don't rinse pooey nappies. That is why I use liners

Altho when Sienna had her bug last weekend no liner was enough to contain it

Emma have you actually tried cloth wipes?! Its no different to rinsing a pooey nappy.

Or cloth pads for that matter. Probably for the same reason I don't do cloth wipes, and I use disposable liners in my cloth nappies. Yep i'm getting one once AF comes back. DH is happy for me to get one as well due to the money side of things. I'll probably need to invest in some liners as well at some stage as well.

I talked to a friend today who has heavy periods too... she says she fills it up quickly too. (Geepers, so glad I have light periods then!!)

I'm going to make her some washable liners as she is still using disposable ones for the first few days and doesn't like them

Yes Nuttymama - I usually end up doing a dash about every hour to hour and half to change tampons (first day, it honestly pours out of me!) and to stretch it out to 4 hours on the first day is fab!

I was honestly really surprised at how easy it is to use, and I actually feel lots better using it over tampons.

I'm just using a liner while I get to know myself with the mooncup

Right that's it my minds made up I'm getting one for next month.

I was thinking about these this morning, I have been on a field trip with JB and went and did my thing before we left and then not even 3/4 of an hour later had to hand over my group so I could do a mad dash to the toilet. My first two days are every hour on the hour if not earlier. Erm, and yes, you can tell it's full because it leaks, and you get that awful leaky sensation ...

TMI, but I managed to fill mine up in 4 hours this morning

Still, it beats tampons hands down. I love it. It feels so much cleaner, and it's really easy to use. The first time removing it it took a few minutes to work it out, but by day 2, it's all good

Now I just need Greenbeans to let me know when their next shipment of liners etc is in!

It has handy little measurement level things on the side, so you can assess how much you have over a length of time. If they get full they leak - there are four little holes about a cm or so from the top of the rim, that allow it to 'breathe' but also handle overflow. I'm really liking the no risk of TSS. I told DH last night i was going to spend $55 and the conversation went like this.

Yes you can wear it at night.

Steralise once a month after use.

When inserted properly you can't feel it at all.

You can leave it in for as long as you like, until it needs emptying anyway. Unlike tampons there is NO TSS risk with mooncups.

How often do you need to sterilise?

Can you not feel it at all?

You know how with PP bleeding you are supposed to use pads not tampons? Is the MC ok for that?

And Nikki - you and I (and Becks) have RU. Does that make tampons uncomfy for you in the first couple of days generally speaking? Does the MC go up as far and cause similar discomfort?

Like Gen said, same principal for PP bleeding - you shouldn't put anything up there because of infection risk so MC is out. I started using tampons again 2 weeks after birth and I think you could use MC again then too.

And I'm not sure I have RU...? I asked at the IUD appt... but then again she did say that sometimes you can't tell from lying position. Ah well... there goes that theory!

All of what Paws said, and what Nikki said - I love love LOVE my mooncup... and it has just occurred to me that maybe my cycle is finally getting back to something resembling normal because of it. Ditto on the plants / water thing, our vege garden rocks atm and I reckon it's coz of our special "fertiliser". And I reckon you wouldn't want to use one for PP anyway as things could be a bit sore and tender (bruising) and esp. not if you had stitches. Which also means there is a trick to getting it out again...release one side at a time!!!!

No you would still not use a mooncup for PP bleeding. Next time I plan to use PP cloth pads.

It is different from a tampon because it sits lower and you need to fold it up to put it in...but if you can do tampons you can do this.

It's made from medical grade silicon... definitely soft. You have to fold it up to put it in.

As for the why lighter less painful periods there are only theries no concrete reasons.

Thoughts are that you are not stuffing synthetic fibres up your wazoo...another thought is that because the mooncup sits lower there is nothing irritating the cervix.

Have used it 3 months so far. I loved it although I found I leak a bit in the beginning. (might be that I still need practice inserting it) Also leaked quite a bit at night. So only using it during the day now.

Haha waaaayyyyy TMI - can ya tell I've been sensitised to this stuff since childbirth?!?

I've used it for the last few months and find it fabulous. It took a bit of trial and error but well worth it IMO - I was already terribly sick of tampons, don't do pads, and trying to be a bit more eco-conscious.

Love it! Don't feel a thing... empty it twice daily (in shower in morning and at night just wash it in hot water.. or have another shower! It's winter alright!

You only need one. Just boil it before use (or not, I'm incredibly lazy) and rinse out when you empty it.

At the start of my period I sometimes get leaks as stuff that has already come past the cervix doesn't get absorbed as it would a tampon but if I deal with it in the shower then that is less of a problem.
