My midwife wasn't too worried, altho she did repeat the GD screening just in case. I went into spontaneous labour at 38 weeks and Maya was born weighing 9lb1oz. When I was first pregnant with the gremlins I told her I wanted an induction at 38 weeks as I was worried about bubs size given Maya was big and early, but she said to wait and see what happened. In the end there were two of them so they were smaller, but to be honest I don't think it was any easier having my 6lb8ozer than it was having Maya.

I think its because I have just seen (not literally) my SIL go through an elective c section and it scared the c**p out of me, yet her first baby was a natural birth and that didn't scare me at all! Also the fact that her tiny baby (6lb 9oz and she was taken early) has had so many respitory probems since birth and has been in hospital all week again and she's only 3 weeks old

Funnily enough I am actually not that concerned about the birth of a large baby. My MIL had 4 kids and told me DH was by far her easist birth (and was her biggest bubs by far) a couple of pushes and he was out and she totally believes it was because of his big size, she has said her smaller ones were the ones that were the hardest! She went back and had another after him so couldn't have been that bad

I was just more interested to know what the m/w or obstetrician did regarding inducing etc! The m/w has indicated I need to get an obstetrician just in case of emergency c section???

I am fairly broad in body myself, ain't no petite sized spring chicken here, so I don't think I will have any problems with the size of the baby and the size of my pelvis!

My friend pushed out an 11lb 13 baby a week before me and she is a little person. It has a lot to do with the babies head circumfrence (both my boys had little heads when born) as to how easy it is to push out and if the baby actually is ready and head is at the right angle.

    Author: ShellandBella
Subject: 9074
Posted: 12 July 2007 at 9:02pm

Peachy, I had a scan at 38 weeks which indicated bubs was already 8lbs and by now (full term) probably closer to 9lbs already. MW told me scans aren't totally reliable but that EDD is best calculated the earlier the scan. I was hoping that they would move my EDD forward, but since my EDD was formulated from a scan they did when I was 10 weeks, she said that would be the most accurate date.

I asked MW again about size (as I'm a small person) and she said you can quite comfortably have a large baby as long as the head circumference is within normal limits and able to pass through your pelvis. So could be just that your baby is long or chubby and that you won't have problems at all. My MW told me of a girl who had a 10lb 13oz baby quite comfortably with no medical intervention, so it can be done!

    Author: peachy
Subject: 9074
Posted: 12 July 2007 at 8:47pm

At our 20 week scan they indicated that our baby was above average in size, close to the 95th percentile and I was to come back in one months time for a re-scan.

We had the re-scan done today, and everything was perfect with the baby, growing well and its organs are all nice and healthy. They measured everything again and the measurements are still indicating a larger than average baby, its sitting just under the 95th percentile again, so consistent with the previous measurements growth wise which is good, but big!

I am being tested for GD at 28 weeks, although I am more convinced that it is genetic reasoning for a big bubs! My DH was 10lb 4oz and is a strapping tall man and I am not petite by anymeans.

My question is, has anyone else had this indicated to you at your scan and what did they do as you got closer to your due date?? Do they induce you so you don't get too big etc?? Was your bubs actually ginormous (sp?) (I can't help thinking of a huge 12pd baby or something like that for a first baby)!!! They have indicated maybe a change in due date by 10 days forward, then it would fall into the average size for EDD, although my m/w is not so keen on changing the EDD.

Any help appreciated TIA!
