Congratulations! NoFearFranky! That's fantastic. Just goes to show that all those statistics they throw at you when you go for IVF are just that - statistics! My Dad said to me at the time: "And why wouldn't you be so lucky?"

Yes, the first 12 weeks are the most nerve-wrecking, but I have to say that I didn't really start to relax until after the amnio and getting the results for that(which were positive, i.e. everything is fine and it's a girl!). That was in week 18!

But you're a HUGE step further than you've ever been - that's got to count for something! Good luck for the next few weeks. Let us know how you're going!

Just an update from me - after going through the cycle of IVF I had the results of my pregnancy test yesterday - and it's positive! Like Evolsen, it was my first try at IVF so of course I'm overjoyed. Hi NoFearFranky - Good luck for your IVF!!! I am really glad that my thread gives you just that little bit of hope that we all need so much!

Yes, I feel very fortunate to have been successful on the first cycle. After all, this was our ONLY shot. I'm now 18 weeks pregnant and have just received the results from our amniocentesis - everything is fine and it's a girl!

I don't know how you feel but to me becoming pregnant was always something that happened to other people so I never believed that IFV would work until I actually got the result. Probably also because Fertility Associates seem to prepare you better for a negative than a positive result... But I guess they do that to avoid raising too much hope.

It was particularly frustrating for me as my infertility was "unexplained" so there was no way of "fixing" it. I had no reason to believe that IVF would be the solution. In the end they put it down to my age (41).

But hey, here I am - growing fast! I hope you will have the same experience. Let me know if you need any more "insider info" than I've already given on this thread. Hi mrsmoo,

I would be surprised by that, too. But I just read a news item from 10 October 2007 where they still say that couples can apply for public funding for IVF.

You have to meet certain criteria, though. When I applied for funding about a year ago, I had to go through a list of questions with a doctor of the Fertility Associates. These questions included my history of infertility - how many years and reasons for infertility - and my age. Each answer gave me a certain number of points. You had to reach a certain number of points to be eligible for funding.

I thought I would never be eligible, but I was in the end. So tell your cousin to not give up just yet and talk to a specialist. I was eligible and am now 3 months pregnant (13th week) .

Hallo all,

I am just new in the forum and also new member. I have heard from my cousin actually that IVF is not funding anymore by the goverment. Is it true??? My cousin is wanting to have baby for years and her GP told her that the funding now is stoped. I do not believe that. The 2nd chance of IVF is just approved for further funding not long ago. I hope she just misunderstood.

Hi guys,

Sorry for my silence on this forum. Was just thinking in the last couple of days that I must update you! I was going to wait for my 12 week scan, but I might as well give you a quick one now

Things are going well. Apart from my sickness issue (which is comparibly light and it also only started at week 7 or so) I feel fine and have no major problems. I have also had a couple of scans and even had a chance to see the little bean moving last time! That was very exciting!!

I now have a specialist caring for me and will hopefully make contact with one of his midwives soon. Still very unreal the whole thing.

I have been talking to some mums-to-be also due in April next year on this Forum and it's nice to share the experience with them.

I will be very glad when the 12/13 weeks are over - hoping that that will be a time to relax a little and stop worrying.

Hi guys,

well we had the scan today and we have one (probably not two) little bean growing WITH a heartbeat!

I am so relieved - though the scan still felt very surreal. This little flickering that they call heartbeat could have just as well been a malfunctioning screen. But I was assured that the screen was in perfect working order.

AND my blood test was really good today. The nurse didn't give me any figures but said that they are rising perfectly. Yay

As todays scan was on our own initiative we have another one this Friday (through Fertility Associates). Hi BellaBabysMum - Thanks so much for your kind offer, but I actually don't have the specific figures - and especially not the very first one.

All I know is that my hCG a week after the pregnancy blood test was somewhere around 900, the following week (always Tuesdays) at somewhere around 3500 and last Friday's one at about 6500. But no specific figures. I do think it's best for me not to worry about them anymore and just go by the fact that the doctor is happy. Will know so much more on Tuesday I hope...

Yes, a year between now and Tuesday, as busymum says, just about sums it up...

I spent a lot of time last night browsing the net trying to find out more about those hCG values - the information I found varied so much that I decided in the end to stop looking all together.

There is nothing I can do whether I know what a certain value means or not, so no point stressing over it. Mother nature will know what she's doing and we have no choice but to comply.

Having made that decision I feel a lot more relaxed today... Hi caraMel,

Yes, finally got the call from my GP and he's very happy with my result (though it was lower than what he told me on Wednesday he would look for).

The hCG is supposed to double every two to three days. Well, mine doesn't quite do that, which is a worry to me. But my progesteron is beautifully high, so my GP reckons I should have a good scan on Tuesday and even be able to see a heartbeat (or 2!). He's a very honest man and he knows me very well. So I totally trust him. Phew! One step further...

I have a feeling it's only going to be one baby due to my not too high hCG but we'll see. Fingers crossed!

Sorry to have left the impression, but the nurse wasn't really out of line - all staff at FA Wellington are fantastic - I guess she was trying to be as vage and uncomitting as possible - to not worry me. She told me that the values were rising (which is good). However, they were not rising as much as they could. She also said several times to not worry. She was trying - but at that stage it didn't really work... I had to digest those news first.

When I saw my GP today I felt a lot stronger for any sort of news so it was a much more pleasant experience.

And I am glad, that he offered me to do SOMEthing, i.e. do another test this week and maybe have a scan next week. Hi everyone,
As expected it was good to see my GP today.

When I told him what the nurse had told me yesterday (without giving me any figures) he didn't sound too happy, but when he then actually looked at the BHCG he said that it wasn't "too" bad and that I shouldn't worry.

Knowing me and therefore knowing that I DO worry, he also suggested to do another blood test on Friday (thanks Catherine!) and if that result is acceptable then to do a scan next week rather than the week after

I felt so relieved and am feeling much more confident again about the whole thing. Maybe it is really not over yet...

I hope all goes well Evolsen, I check over the hCG's most days and it can be quite hard to figure out if things are ok sometimes. Can they give you a form to have more regular tests? maybe one on Friday to get an idea? Hi everyone,

Well another week has passed and I am still pregnant. However, my blood test today revealed that my hormon levels are not rising as fast as they could. Last week as was in the upper part of the "average" - this week I'm in the lower. Whatever that means. The nurse says it might mean nothing, but I know that it also could mean things are not going as well and are in fact slowing down to come to a halt. Have to prepare for the worst.

The thing is we can't do anything but wait - another blood test next Tuesday. I'll see my GP tomorrow, too. It will be really good to talk to him.

Other than that I think I have the hardest week so far ahead of me...

Thank you so much for all your congrats. We're still very much stunned by our luck, but I had my second blood test today and according to the nurse "everything is rising nicely". THAT was so good to hear. In a way is was the confirmation I needed to let it really sink in that I am actually pregnant. Before it almost seemed like a dream.

I am also really glad that I could give you guys such a positive story (so far - fingers crossed!). I know how important this kind of hope can be...

And at this point BIG congratulations to Lulu! Who has just give birth to her beautiful IVF baby. Wow Evolsen that's fantastic news! You should get an early scan at around 7 weeks for IVF bubbas to check heartbeats, so you should see one or two then, how wonderful!

A huge congratulations from me too I have been following this thread too and have found it really fascinating to hear what you have to go through.

I also had a little bit of spotting early on but am now 17 weeks and all is fine so take a little reassurance that it is common. And I remember the wait for that first 12 week scan took FOREVER! Bombshell - They did put two embryos back in so there is a chance of twins, yes...

However, we won't know until the first scan - 12th week as far as I know - aaaaages away

Thanks so much everyone for all those wishes.

I am really happy that I could provide you with a positive result. It's been so great to share this experience with you so far and I was really hoping that I will be able to give some of you a big hope-boost for when you might go through this process.

As for me personally, I am so excited about the fact that I made it this far. Being pregnant - that was always something that happened to other people and not me!

But here I am, and I'm sure you can all imagine how much I now hope that this lucky streak will continue and I will actually keep these two little buggers.

A little update as to how I feel:

Mentally: TERRIBLY paranoid! I'm afraid to move!

I've got some spotting, which apparently is ok provided it doesn't get worse and, err, has the right colour. Hm - I'm still a bit worried. I think I feel better after this Tuesday's blood test - if they then tell me that everything is fine (hopefully!).

Physically: Well, let's put it this way, I can feel that there is something happening in my lower abdomen (ovary area). Up until yesterday I thought it was just the healing process - after all the poor ovaries got pierced. But now I'm not sure what I'm feeling. It doesn't hurt at all, just a little something...

Feeling quite bloated, but NO nausea so far (big fingers crossed).

I don't know whether it's the mind or actually the body, but I do seem to feel that I have to sit down more and have a little rest. But overall, I feel fine

I rmember Lulu saying that she had absolutely no pg symptoms either - in fact, she didn't really get any symptoms at all for a while!

Hi noodle. Feeling absolutely no different - very unpregnant

Having said that, I have no period symptoms either, but with the current hormon level in my body I would say that any symptom or lack of therof can mean ANYTHING...

Getting a bit nervous about tomorrow. Should have the result in the afternoon and will let everyone know...

Hi guys. Well, I've just received the summary letter of my cycle #1 from FA Wellington and it turns out that the third embryo that was at 5 cells on day 3 didn't develop into a blastocyst and therefore was not frozen

Kiwigirrl if you are in Auckland I know alot of Auckland IVF girls have used Vitalis for acupunture and swear by him. He has a website, I think it is vitalis.co.nz but if not you can google and you will find it I'm sure.

If you have private IVF, even though if you are under 40 they 'encourage' you to only put one embryo back in, it is your choice and you can put two back. Hi kiwigirl,
I'm glad that you find this info helpful. That was one of my reasons to come onto this forum - to make it easier for others, but of course also to have some sort of vent for all this exciting stuff happening!

They put two back in due to my age. I am 40 and I think as of 38 you can opt for having two put back in. The embryologist recommended that we did that since that would increase our chances and we are happy to take the risk of having twins - naivity can be bliss

I did try accupuncture as well and while it can be VERY effective in some women it did not help me. I stopped it about a year ago. But it CAN be very beneficial to have accupuncture and special herbs throughout the IFV process.

I don't know where you are based but there is a accupuncturist in Mana near Wellington called Katrina Gascoyne who specialises in Fertility and other "women's issues". She is brillant and has quite a reputation for making a lot of couples with fertility issues very happy . Her practice is called Clinic of Oriental Medicine - you should find the phone number in the phone book. If you're not based in Wellington they will be able to recommend someone in your region.

I took the day of egg collection off - you really can't do much due to the sedative - and then the following two days were a weekend and I tried to take it really easy. I felt quite spacey, but I think that was more due the whole process and coping with it mentally (I was quite nervous about the egg collection. Hence, I felt a huge sense of relieve). Physically I was fine.

BTW - the day of egg collection was the only day that I took Panadol. After that I was fine.

How come they put two back? I've been told they will only put 1 back?
Did you take any time of work throughout and did you feel like you needed to rest after the retrieval or the implantation?
Did you do anything like acupuncture as well throughout too ...
