Thanks everyone!!

Andie - you can mix antibitoics with food if that helps? I asked the pharmacy yesterday, if you mix it in just before you feed her then it is ok!

Emma - Stupidly enough, losec is the only one she doesn't have a problem with!! Seems to hate anything liquid but will happily chomp down those granules!


Am gonna have to try the cat method Kazzle, I have never heard of that before so will tackle it today!

And becca, I will try you wrapping plan too! I like the sounds of that! Anything to minimise the squirming has gotta help!!

My sister had to be given medication when she was 6 months old, 2 or 3 times a day. Dad used to wrap her, then hold her across his knee so that her head was lower than her body and syringe the medicine to the back of her throat. She would protest something chronic! but couldn't get away and the position Dad held her in meant she had to drink or drown (if you know what I mean)

I've given medicine to all my children in variations of this and its worked.

With Jack I used to hold a dummy a boob height and then pretend to latch him on to it and poke a syringe in the side and put it in and he was normally too busy sucking to notice.

We're having the same problem with Ella's antibiotics.  She loves her other meds though!  I'm so going to try the cat-approach next (thanks Kaz!).  One thing you might find helpful is a longer tube on the end of the syringe - there was a time when Ella would refuse a syringe, but gladly take the tube attatched to the end of it and chew on that while I slowly dosed her up.  You can get them at some pharmacies - they're sold with some of the big 10ml syringes - just look for a clear flexible tube in the pack.

Ugh, what a mission! I feel your pain! The Losec was the worst for us coz trying to get her to swallow those granules was murder.
With Sienna's kidney meds I was told to aim the syringe for the roof of her mouth as far back as possible and that would reflexively make her swallow it.
I'm not sure what time Kaia has to take her meds but I also found it was easiest to give the gremlins theirs with their dream feed as they were too sleepy to really know what was going on and would usually just suck on the syringe not really aware that it wasn't a bottle.

i found that when rhiannon did this, i just rubbed my finger from the bottom of her chin down her throat, just like you do for a cat to get them to swallow their tablets, always worked for us and no screaming either.

I have having so many problems getting medication into Kaia. At the moment there are about four different medications that she is supposed to be having twice a day. As you can imagine she is less than keen on this and protesting!

Basically I have to pin her down while she screams and get the syringe into her mouth, then after a bit of a fight I can get it in but can't make her swallow!?

Doc said to hold her nose and blow in her face, which will apparently startle her into swallowing! Hmpf, so far it has only managed to startle her into a furious rage that results in my poor baby screaming for hours!
