I'm doing the Takapuna one, and they never said it was compulsary to do both. I am by choice, but plenty of girls in my antenatal class haven't enrolled in Baby & You yet. They're mostly planning to though.

ETA: In fact, I've just remembered that they said at our first antenatal class that it's NOT compulsary to do both, just recommended.

My Baby & You course starts 2 weeks after my due date so I'm a little worried that we won't be settled enough to start going out to courses. Especially if baby is late.

I'm not sure if we had a choice about doing it or not. Hmmm speaking of Parents Center - guess I better pay for mine soon or I'll be un-enrolled....

I don't get a choice about the baby and you class - for Takapuna parent's centre you have to do both courses The baby and you class will run in March so I'll have a 3 month old by then so hopefully it will still be useful.

Duh, as soon as you said that it's part of the full antenatal class Mikaela, I clicked and remembered them mentioning one separate Saturday class as part of it. Amber, as far as I know it's usually part of their full antenatal classes, I'm not sure if they offer it separately. It'd definitely be worth ringing them and asking if you can get into one of the practical parenting classes though.

Drives me nuts that it's so hard to find courses that teach you what to do with the baby when you get it home. I second (or third!) the parents centre one too. We had it 2 weeks ago and found it amazing. We got some paperwork on all the tips they gave us too, if I remember (baby brain!) I've just done this one too, and it was great. that sucks ellasmum.. we didn't find ours very insightful either.. we knew everything that they mentioned. We thought that we would actually be taught something new..  not so..

I'm booked in to do one at the Parents Centre called Baby & You, although you attend this shortly after the babys birth. It says it will cover infant feeding, plunket, CPR & first aid, awareness of relationship changes, physical developmental stages of your child (incl. infant massage), a creative session focusing on sensory development, play & age appropriate toys.

I'm not sure if this is really what you're after but you could give the Parents Centre a call and tell them what you are looking for and see if they have a course covering that. Have you asked your midwife for any suggestions? She might know of a few places.
