I would ring up the normal specialist and explain what happened, and ask if they think you should come in immediately, and I'd also ring up the "lackey" and give them a piece of your mind... in the most controlled, non-violent way possible, of course. Ear infections are so incredibly frustrating, especially for us as parents because we really don't know what's going on in there or how it's affecting their speech and hearing. If there is some medical explanation for why the other doctor took out the grommet, I'd love to know it. Big hugs to you -- I know how much this situation sucks, and how frustrating it is!!!!

It is rather unusual to have them taken out, most doctors will wait for the tympanic membrane to heal up and basically push it out of their ear. Ear infections aren't nice for a little one and we all know pumping antibiotics into people isn't a nice thing. Do you know what sort of thing could be causing recurrent infections? If he is that susceptible it probably IS a good idea to call the specialist direct in case he needs to be put back on a grommet list to have some reinserted.

Andrew has been getting ear infections since teething. In November 2005 our GP sent a referral to a specialist to get grommets, We saw the spec in Dec 2005 (we went private) and had the op in Feb 2006 to get grommets in both ears. Last year was great NO ear infections over winter. We saw the spec at the public hospital 6 months later and was told that 1 grommets was dislodged but it will be fine (too which it was and it eventially fell out in April this year) and the other is still perfectly in place. We had to see the spec privately again in December last year for ear plug for swimming and once again fine. Last month (the 21st) we went to another appointment at the public hospital and I was told I wouldn't be seeing Hans (our specialist) I would be see a lacky (as I call them) He took the good grommet out (WTF!?!?!?) and I was told "oh he'll be fine and we'll see him in October (I made sure it was soon as I want a full hearing test done). As we were leaving my mum (she came with us to look after Josh while I went in with Andrew) my mum was talking with a nurse she knew and she was like WTF why take it out now when winter is about to start, and then as we left the clinic my ran into her boss's wife and she was the same why take it out when it is in place and causing no harm.

No less that a week after it was taken out Andrew got an ear infection in that ear, I was fine but the dr said to keep an eye on them and to come in anytime he says he has a sore ear. On Tuesday Andrew told my mum he had a sore ear, so yesterday he told me he had a sore ear I rang a the dr and we saw her at 4.45 and Andrew has an ear infection in both ears. So not even 1 month after having a perfectly good grommet out he has had 2 ear infections.

I am in 2 minds to ring the specialist at his private clinic to get seen or just wait it out till October demand to see him at the public hospital so we can get grommets put back in.

Sorry bit of a bitch but this is starting to annoying me.
