we didn't do the all black suit but have a heap of ford stuff. was quite cute when Paris's daycare had a "wheels" day, all about cars etc... mike dressed her up in ford t-shirt, cap, and had a stockcar to take with and a pic of her grandad's stockcar to show everyone. re heater - we have a small oil column heater too, I have a thermometer in Joes room and try and keep it between 18 and 20 degrees. Definitely worth buying them now as they are cheaper towards the end of the season and you can bet they will raise prices in time for next winter!! Warehouse has cheap ones that are good.

Lewis used ot recite all black winning world cup team of 1985 (?) to my stomach when i pregnant with jake. and we had the allblacks outfit, and hat, and mittens, and ..something else I forget. Yah Hubby was saying that the small heaters are not that expensive and now it is even cheeper. So we might as well buy one....

You could probably get away without one and just buy one next winter. but then sometimes there are those random freezing days that come from nowhere so you could always just use it on those occasions if you got it now.. they aren't too $$$

yeah quilt covers are usually ok, cotton breathes better than synthetic stuff

and yep i thought the pic was pretty neat too . mike took it, those are his sunnies... scary how they fit PAris and Ayja.

Yah I have polar fleece blankets too....I was not planning on using that while she was sleeping but more for going out....

Are quilt covers okay? the one I bought is so soft and light and yet warm.....I sure hope so...cost me a cook penny.....

WE have a small oil heater too but only have it on very low now, about 2 or 3 if that most nights just to take the chill off the air. We got a small oil column heater for the baby's room. They're pretty cheap from places like the Warehouse. Mind you, she was born in the middle of winter and it was freezing. I still have the heater on at nights in her room, but don't generally need it during the day. The ones with a thermostat are the best. I had a room thermometer for the first few months 'til I got used to what 18-20 degrees felt like. Well I went shopping this weekend and bought a bertini cot set...Quilt with head bumper, blanket and sheet set. I am hoping that all that plus other blankets will be okay for my little girl!!

Mind you it is getting hotter at nights now.....

jake slept in just a nappy throughout summer. he slept on a towelling sheet and sweted appallingly. He's like a little sauna. In October last year it was soooo damn freezing. I had Hannah wrapped in a polarfleece blanket, then an aircell blanket, a quilt and another blanket on top. Polarfleece is good for warming babes up but doesn't breathe fantastically.
Then when Han was about 4 weeks old we went from freezing weather to sweltering hot! It was worse than being cold because we couldn't escape it. Hot babies are not happy babies! Worst thing was having to breastfeed and knowing that Hannah being so close to me was making it worse for her. Poor babe. when jake was about a week old, we called the midwife as he had this rash that i had convinced myself was meningitis....turns out it was heat rash. we read that babies should have one more layer than me.....i am a cold person though...in october i would wear a t-shirt, sweater and jacket....so jake had a wool singlet, long sleeve t-shirt, sweater, another thing and a blanket...poor little mite was soooooooo hot. Turns out he's his father's boy and sweats in too many clothes. today he's ina t-shirt and shorts while I have a sweater and jeans on.

Hehe, Willie still hasn't sussed out that Maya has 'daycare clothes' and 'home clothes' so when he dresses her she usually ends up in a pair of hori looking, paint stained trakkies.

Maya's fave Winnie character is Roo atm, she is borderline obsessed, and she tells little stories about Roo and Kanga, and carts her McD's stuffed Roo everywhere.

She had a piglet suit with ears her first winter, and a tigger one last winter. most people usually say that, took us a while to realise, cos we saw them every day, then we started getting pics and thought oh my god, they really ARE big.

lol thanks! we thought it would be really neat if we had a piglet outfit for Ayja cos she's so tiny... it would just suit her so much, may have to get hold of those rellies over the ditch who gave us these and get them to send more. Newmum Thankyou for the comment on the photo he had just had a bath and was lying on the couch and the statsic from the couch made his hair stand up we thought it would be fun to get photo's. His hair is mich longer then that now I can't believe how fast it has grown.

i never wanted to buy winnie the pooh stuff, cos every one buys it... but wouldn't you know, everyone bought it for us... lol, now we are all winnied out! and, i must say, i now think it's rather cute, lol
Ayja has a tigger suit.... which i just love so much, it was given to us for paris but she didn't get to wear it much cos when she fitted it, it was summer and it's made of velour so its quite warm... she does have a summer one though with short sleeves and a little hat.. I love them so much!

oooh i found a pic of them. lol.


Ayja now, and Paris at 6 months.. all tiggered out

The disposble cameras are a great idea cos then you get photos of allthe guests which you dont really get otherwise. Our photographer - who was an old school friend! - had a little blackboard and guests could write a message on it then have their photo taken with it. I had the most beautiful photos......and the photographer only cost us $500....he is also a family friend! He got to my place around 9.30am and was available till 12pm (I do know that he left for few hours when we did not need him).....so I have 2 huge albums full of photos....

Well...I am the same Lou.

I had to decorate every thing my self...as I dont trust any one to do it "right". At the last min the hall we hired told us that they made a boo boo and hired the hall out for the night before, even tho we were suppose to get time to decorate the tables. So the day before (afternoon) I decorated the walls and had to come back at 11pm to do all the tables...all 50 of them. We (15 of us) were there till 2am. Got up at 9am because we were getting married at 10am....had a hair appt in Akl city at 12.30pm....the photographer was going to take us to the gardens at 3pm.....ahhhhh I was so relaxed!!!!

I was glad when every thing was over!!! On our tables at our reception, mike wants to have little fish bowls with 2 tiny bright fishes in each. I think it's kinda kewl but kinda weird too, what will we do with all the fishes once the wedding's over? I can just see some drunken idiot pouring alcohol or something in there. Our wedding was a few days before xmas in germany (so cold, snowy winter time) so we decorated the tables with 3 big red candles tied together with red and gold ribbon placed on sprigs of chrismas fir tree branches and scattered gold and red hearts over it, it was really simple (and cheap) but very effective!

Yah we had a buffet dinner and we paid $10 per head...mind you the catering company owner was a friend of ours. But multiply that with 450 people.....We only had beer and wine at our reception so we rang around heaps to find the best deal, and once you tell them how much you need they usually offer a discount anyway.

I had to buy 80 meters of silk material for the decoration but I got a good deal from one of those bulk material places.....

Had flower arrangements for each of our 50 tables...but if you go to those small flower places they should give you a better price. Or do the centre pieces simple...like glass vases ($2-$5 ea from warehouse) and then 1-2 flower in it tied to some thing heavy...so that it has that floating effect and some color pebbles at the bottom....all up $8-$10 per table....there is so much you could do really.....ok enough of my blah blah

Emma we gave our closest families (100) glass coasters which had two intertwine hearts with our names and on the boarder it had the date of our wedding. Cant remember how much it cost us but I know it was not that expensive. The company provided us the boxes for free...all I did was put gold tissue paper in it, two coasters for each family and then sprinkle of some red heart shaped glitter things and then tied it with those curling ribbon things. People actually use them!!!

But I'm not a great boil up fan either. I do like watercress, but it has to be boiled in a separate pot to the meat, and I soooo don't do puha.

Back to the subject tho, is it still traditional to give little gifts to your guests? We did almost everything for our wedding too (hmmm, make that I did almost everything, hehehe, I am a real control freak!)Starting from making our invites, menu cards, place cards, song booklets for church to decorating the venue (at 7am the morning of the wedding as we couldn't get in earlier, aaargh!). We did order food, buffet style ended up cheaper and more food, and had a professional DJ. The thing that got really expensive though was the drinks, in Germany the hosts are expected to pay for everything!! I think we ended up paying almost $5000 for alcohol alone!!!! Yep, good alright! Willie's dad died when I was 3 mths preg, which was awful, but at the tangi they had hangi, it was like heaven! Must have been the little Maori baby inside me craving it! Congrats! We are getting married next year (sometime, probably Oct depending on $$$), and planning to do a lot of it ourselves.
Willie is Maori, so like you Lizzle, no choice on the hangi lol. But that's ok - it's actually a cheap way to feed the whanau (and there are a lot of them).

Congratulations!

I had a huge wedding...450 people but must admit that we saved alot by doing things our selves. I made my own invite....it matched my dress and the theme (saved approx $900)...I did my own decorations (called a few professionals...and stole their ideas.....he he ha ).

In America they also ask for money tree in their invite...so instead of pressies they get money. Works out quite well really. I didnt ask for it but as well as pressies I got loads of money.....Good luck with your plans.

Thanks guy's I am just so excited we are going to do a church wedding but it will be nice and small then rather then Presents we are going to ask afew special people to comr to tea and have them pay we don't need anything for the house so I'd rather that then present's. I have my dress Dad bought it as a prresent for me it is real plain but totally me.

we gotmarried at the registry office but plan of doing the big wedding when we get back. We plan to have a hangi and the reception will be at Lewis' marae. And the aunties will cater...not much choice on that.

Oh Janine we got married on the beach and it was just the best!! I am so glad we did that rather than be talked into a church wedding. I agree with the idea of doing things yourself. My older sis did all the catering herself and had the reception at her SIL house. all up her wedding cost $2000. I think that's brilliant.

Congratulations! I got married in January this year and it was such a great day - tho was also glad when it was all over! If you can do things yourself rather than paying to have them done saves lots of $$ - like invitations. Also, personally I dont think its worth spending heaps on a dress that you wear for a few hours, but depends on you - my mum made mine with material left from my SIL. Another money saver is not to have a full sit down meal, but finger foods instead - that also saves on alcohol too.
