I bet you're relieved that the day is over. I've never heard of a car seat check, so will keep that in mind. I have jumper leads but have no idea of how to use them, so I would be in as much trouble as you were for a very different reason. I mean, how many girls have jumper leads and know how to use them? I too am off to check my car seat!! Hubby HAD to have a black big soft fancy pansy one that matched his car....... as you do when your a bit vain. And mine is a Trade Me job so I had better check.

I had no idea that they checked seats - I don't know about you ladies but if they grabbed ours to turn up for a check they'd end up with a kilo of raisins, crumbs and godness knows what else!

Oh Liz moving sucks. I can't believe they did a careseat check very random. Hope this makes you feel a bit better, we moved house last month and since then we've had numerous bills, broken things (ie our computer) etc and have paid LOTS of $$$.. I had a bad month where every few days we would get a new bill - think new power company bond, phone bills, parking fine, broken computer (hard drive failed and we lost everything on it).. Yikes.. You're not a bad mum for not knowing about the carseats, I guess in a way it was good something like this happened so that you can replace them. And good that the cop let you off the fine.. so random, I've never had a carseat check.

And with Jake, eek Ella has sprinted out like that too, managed to grab her hood on her jacket and apparently "hurt her neck" but saved her from being run over.. Okay today I was very organised. last night wrote a list of everything I had to do today (remember we are moving so have LOADS of stuff to do). got the kids in the car, put the key in and....nothing. completely dead - not even the car clock came on. it was then i realised the kids had left the interior lights on- for two days. So frantically ringing everyone I know for bloody jumper leads! and no one has them (guess what hubby is now getting for xmas!). ended up at 11pm Lewis' uncle found some and brought them down and jumped the car. now okay. So went to mate's house and on the way was stopped by the cops. no prob I though, I am not doing anything wrong. Carseat check he says. where are your bolts he says. i said i didn't think i needed them as my car seats don't have anything to bolt down. oh he says - and the lady comes. turns out BOTH car seats are expired! and he gave me a $300 infringement notice BUT it will be waivered if I get new car seats and bolts fitted in fourteen days - but I'm moving I say, but Saturday then he says. Grrrr. By this time though I was feeling like such a neglient mum i was nearly in tears and the guy was trying to comfort me and say that i wouldn't have to pay the fine if I got it done..blah blah. AND I found Out I can get a care seat from Turanga Health for $110 each rather than $280, through some ACC funded scheme. so rang dad and he will pay. so yah. I guess not enirely a bad ending and it's much better to find out now that the car seats are inadequate rather than a crash telling me so. But still feel really bad that I have driven them around for so long without them actually being safe. scary. AND this is the day after m,y darling son, the good child (i.e. jake) who always walks nicely with me, sprinted in front of a car at the pak n save car prak and only missed getting hit because the woman driving hasd ligtening fast reflexes.
