Wow that a cool vege garden. I have taken pics of mine (they are about 4 weeks old now) as I needed to send to my mum.

In mine I have potatoes, strawberries, beetroot, leeks, spring onions, lettuce, brocolli, cauli, cabbage, courgette, corn, radishes, carrots, beans, snow peas and normal peas.

In pots I have tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, capsicum, chilli, mint, parsley, chives, rosemary, oragarno, basil and sunflowers

And DH is digging up some more for me so I can plant my pumpkin that are just starting to germinate.

I am so looking forward to eating all of my stuff.

We just planted an avocado, so would love to see the answer to that question!

All I can say is make sure you really work the soil before you plant. ie weeding, composting turning it over etc

another thing is: rotate your veg each year, i.e. dont plant carrots in the same place each time.

Yep we wanna start planting in march with winter vege,...and then prgress into grwing lots of yummy summer veges, salad, strawberies!

Anyone know how long it takes an avacado tree to fruit from the time youy plant it? Nope at the moment its just a corner of the lawn, that has been used as a rubbish pile by the last tennants. We gonna take all the stuff to the tip, and I would like to create a raised vege garden. Yep the Yates Gardening Guide is great - has a section on veges and a very detailed bit for each vege and its NZ so specific to our climates. Very very helpful.

Is the garden already dug up? Will you be planting in March??

If so you need to look for your winter veges which are brocolli, cauli, cabbage, carrots.

At the moment mine has too much in it I am making DH dig some more up for me.

Have a look for a Yates Gardening book.

Strawberries only - apparently they just can't be killed

When we moved in mid Feb there was a full vege garden, all nicely done in rows and all. Now its a massive mound of stuff to be taken to the green bit at the dump. We have just more to Gisborne, and once we have cleaned all the junk, including the old loo, from the backyard,...I want to start a vege garden!

I am an extemely novice gardener,...ie- the extent of my gardening skills is occaionaly watering indoor plants and managaing to keep a few alive!

Any tips or hints would be very gratefully appriciated! We are aiming to have the garden ready to plant in, in about March,...so basically at the moment I need to know if there is anything I can be doing now,..like planting seeds in pots or something in preparation!

Would eventually love to have,...potatoes, spinach, brocolli, calui, carrots, cos type lettuce, cherry tomatoes, strawberries,...YUM!

We've got strawberries, purple broc, leeks, spinach, brussel sprouts and rainbow chard. Herbs are italian parsley, rosemerry, oragano, mint and . Fruit trees are lemon, fijoa, blackboy peach (my favorit) and 2 apples.
Everything is sort of snap frozen at the moment. Come spring I'll chuck some tomatoes, basil, coriander, abergine, courgets and capsicin in the tunnel house. Spuds, lettuce, and beans as well.

ummm parts of a dead cow i think. sorry discusting i know but our dog has managed to gather a excellent collection of bones that are scattered around.there might be some wild mint in the vege patch though.
other then that i know there is a lemon tree, and i think there is a pear,apple and maybe some peach trees around here somewhere. and my roses are doing ok after being moved.
we will hopefully be moving outta this horrible house at the end of the season so there isnt really any point to us doing the garden all nice and spending heaps of money on it.

one live and one dead swan plant, and the strawberries that seem to thrive when no one looks after them but no fruit at the mo, that i have seen anyway.

it sounds better than it is. at our last house we built a deck and decided to have potted fruit on it, with the idea that xanthe could go and help herself to fruit whenever she wanted. we also had a pear tree right next to the deck.

then we sold up, and had pots and pots of plants to lug with us.

We have a beanstalk in a pot that Maya planted at preschool which I haven't managed to kill - yet! I'm not the world's best gardner, probably somewhere closer to the worst. in our garden we have:

rhubarb, raspberries, cranberries, strawberries, cocktail kiwifruit, blueberries, blackcurrents, lemons and limes.

peas, potatoes, carrots, parsnips, silverbeet, lettuce, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, courgettes, and dh is working on getting some grape vines all trained up.

At the moment just the odd weed  and a huge strawberry patch that has fruit. We are about to plant potatoes (just about ready to go in) and then the middle of next month I will be doing seeds (to transfer into the garden) of brocolli, lettuce, cauli, cabbage, corn, zuccini's, capsicums. Its rare for me to see fruit on my Strawberry plants, Something or someone keeps stealing them hehe Even eating the green ones

Recently I planted a peach tree & acquired a passion fruit plant in the weekend that needs planting out.

At the moment, in regards to herbs, i have rosemary, parsley & thyme scattered around in my flower/weed garden or in pots. But id love to grow corriander(which always seems to die on me)

Then eventually i will plant out my summer vege once i know the frost is well & truly gone. Probably stuff like lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, capsicums, cucumber, corn, zucchini etc. What ever i can get my hands on

I'm off to night school to do a edible vege garden class as i've no idea what to plant, and when to plant it.
