I always take heaps of snacks with me to keep Joey going - I cut up apple at home and take it in a container, I take tiny teddies or crackers in another container, I take a pack of raisins and usually a mother earth bar too... hehehehe, It's just enough (with the free piece of luncheon ) to keep him going till we get to the check out

I've never even thought about being asked if it's "stolen" or off the shelves, ooops, lol

I always feed the kids stuff in the supermarket. Maya gets "red sausages" (cocktail sausages) from the deli, and she eats them on the way round, and the gremlins get rice crackers or plain biscuits. The lady in the deli knows us, and she knows Maya eats them before we get to the check out, she even leaves the bag open instead of sealing it.
I really don't see the issue unless you then stuff the empty packaging behind the canned food or whatever. I have never once let the kids eat something then not paid for it, and the checkout staff usually laugh when I tell them to mind the open cracker packet etc.
Oh and before you ask, I've done my time as a checkout chick, 6 years at New World while I was at high school/uni and I've never once seen anyone tell a customer off for opening food before they've paid for it, not even the store detectives that we used to have in 2 or 3 times a week every week.
One thing I do thing is shocking tho is people who let their kids smear lollies/food all over the baby trolleys then just leave them so when the next person goes to use them they are caked with muck. If my kids make a mess, I always clean it up.

We have never ever had a single supermarket operator complain about an open packet of crackers. I had to do a store security course when I worked in retail and according to them even if someone puts an item in their bag you have to wait until they leave the store before it can be considered theft and not attempted. I'm guessing the same would apply with open packets.

We shop at morning tea time and personally I would rather give her a few rice crackers to keep her happy, at 2.5 she is a bit old for toys in a trolley, and knowing my daughter would just get bored and keep throwing it out of my trolley.

You will find alot of the c/o staff don't say anything cause they don't really give a dam not their money.    I only have a problem becasue I worked there and saw how often this sort of thing happened.  A container is a great idea or pop to the c/o and pay for the cracker's get a staff memer to put a sticker on them or something that would work as well.  Sorry I hope I idd not make you feel bad it is just my thougth's on the matter.

I used to take a little box of crackers or something for Ella when she was younger.. shopping time always seemed to come at a time when she was hungry, or sometimes I'd have to rush in to grab something for dinner.. I do the same as Shirena. I'm trying to teach the kids that you can't open/eat something until it has been paid for. It's too easy to think you have your wallet on you (I once left it in the car - fortunately not at home as I suspected!) or that the card will accept. Even if you have enough funds in your a/c there are times when a card won't swipe etc.

I have a couple of times opened a packet of biscuits or tissues when caught unawares. I dont know what it is with kids and marg. When I make hubby's sandwhiches at nights she eyes it and one day got her hand it. All I can say is freaking gross man.

We have a rule that I usually get her one treat in the shops. She is not allowed to eat it before we actually physically paid for it and mommy got the reciepts. Do it with her toys as well. She cant open it until I have the reciept in my hand. She can hold it however. Beein doing that since birth and seems she has the idea.

I have to admit it irritates me to see kids eating stuff before it has been paid for. I think it is due to my brother taking stuff out of this corner cafe when he was little thinking that you can just go in and get your stuff and go out without paying. My mother use to have a tab there and prepay for stuff for the week ect. So he never saw a card or money exchanging.

They are all marg, if you read the packet there is only very little amount of olive oil in those spreads.

That's simply because I can't have butter though (although sometimes I use aioli instead of Olivani as well)...but wanting to eat a whole tub of it doesn't quite come across (to me) as something delicious. Bee thats the very reason I don't ever buy marg, butter only in our house, and only for toast. Sandwiches I use the filling to keep the bread moist, ie hummus, avocado, relish etc.

i remember when i was young and we had a batch and my friends in the caravan up the road (in the same motor camp) used marjorine and my mum used to say how could i like that yuck. It was more the novelty. Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback.

Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at
8 grams compared to 5 grams.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of Butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.

And now, for Margarine.

Very high in Trans fatty acids.

Triple risk of coronary heart disease.

Decreases immune response.

Margarine is but ONE
MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC.

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area.
Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:

* No flies, not even those pesky
fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. my boys love marg too... and once i found a container spread on the kitchen floor as well as hands and faces. and i open things in the supermarket, used to be rusks...quite often do strawberries cause the price is on them but wont let the kids eat other fruit there.

I'm guilty of opening stuff in the supermarket and that's when I didn't have kids! I always make sure I have enough cash to at least pay for whatever I open (usually a bottle of water)that way if my card declined or whatever I would've paid for what I'd consumed.
Think the tub of margarine is revolting (and not liking butter/marg myself I can't get how a child could find it tasty enough to eat handfuls of ). Ok I don't see a huge problem letting your child eat something in a supermarket (as long as you are honest enough to pay for it) especially if they are hungry but Marg?? Guilty!!!! I refuse to take our food into the supermarket as I'm always worried people will think I have stolen it. Abby loves rice crackers so I buy a packet every week and we open them in the shop and she eats some of them as we go around. We of course pay for them when we get to the check outs. Open food, child who gets antsy I choose open food. Mind you we have been going to the same supermarket for the last 17 odd years so they get surprised when we haven't opened crackers. Mind you then so far in the last year I have paid for broken yoghurt (abby threw them), squashed bread, cheese with bite marks in it, broken eggs the list goes on. I remember a lady at the checkout laughing when the cheese came up and offering to replace it, I declined as it was Abby who did it. She told me that most people ditch it and replace it!!

haha, I worked in a supermarket when I was a teenager. there was this one woman who always bought a few items, asked how much the total was, then asked to take something off, which of course required the supervisor key. That is just revolting!!!!!

I am just so disturbed at the moment with all that is in the media involving children. A collegue at work today sent me an email about a little boy that was killed through abuse WITH pictures of his injuries. I didn't open the email and certainly didn't read the details as I just get so sad when there is stuff involving wrong doings to children.

I know feeding your child is not as extreme but for goodness sake where are some parents heads????? I know we all do things at times for a little peace, and quite however that is just gross and so wrong. The fact that the child liked it enough to eat it says crazy stuff.

Went to the supermarket this afternoon to get a few bits and pieces....

Saw a mum with a 2 year old (i guess) in her arms......

But the shocking thing was...she was keeping her "quiet" with a tub of margarine.....
