Jack was a shocker and cut his mouth open so many times I don't know how he doesn't have scars. I think it might be height-related too, Briona was walking along furniture soon after 6 1/2 mos (when she learned to pull to standing). So we had many a bump just because of the vertical challenge! But the ears would definitely make a difference to her sense of balance. Andie, Ayja is always doing it, have had her checked and double checked.. especially since she always seems to darn well hit the same side of her head - just look at maccas today, when she managed to wham both sides of her head at once.

Ella is at that age where she's up and wanting to get into things and she's pretty onto it for 10 months, so she'll be pushing her body to the limits to get what she wants, and to where she wants and her body isn't always going to be ready for what's she's trying to do at this stage, we had heaps of falls with ayja at this age cos she was one active chick.

I was one of those kids who'd cross their arms over trying to catch a ball in P.E class... They do go through a clumsy stage... unfortunately usually coincides with walking which is a a horrible combination!

But yes, the ear infections will cause her to fall over lots. That's how my Mum used to pick up that I had them, would fall over quite a bit.

Hope they infection clears soon!

I think it is normal to go through this stage, particularly if they are standing and walking earlyish.
My Ella was worse than Benjy, we had about a month or so, when she learned to walk at 10 months, where I was embarrassed to take her out anywhere because she was so bruised all the time!
I felt so sorry for her, it seemed like her head was always 5 steps ahead of what her feet were doing and of course she approached everything in a hurry which didn't help!

I agree with the others too tho, its worth checking her eyes, and the ears probably wouldn't be helping either.

an ear infection will affect her balance, because of the whole inner ear thing but if it keeps happening might pay to check her eyes. Andrew was a clumsy baby until we picked up that he couldn't see thing very well.

haleigh did the same thing and still does every now & then but shes alot more coordinated now than she was a yr ago.

I don't expect my 10-month old to be co-ordinated, but it seems to me like she's accidentally hurting herself too often.  Must be around 5 times a day that Ella will smack her head (usually going from standing to floor, thumping herself on the back of the head really hard as she lands) and end up inconsolable for some time.  This isn't counting the little whoopsies that leave her grizzling for a few secs before she realises she's actually OK.  These are injuries that look like they'd really really hurt.  I'm putting her little leather shoes on more for traction, but she does it just as often on the carpet.    Does this seem normal for a baby her age?]]> Tue, 14 Aug 2007 09:26:04 +0000 https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9885&PID=196548&title=how-many-bumps-ouches-are-ok#196548
