Author: Emu
Subject: Can I undergo liposuction after a C- section?
Posted: 21 June 2016 at 3:44pm

Hi, I wouldn't think there would be any problems with it. However it is normal to put on more weight with twins and normal for it to take longer to lose that weight and for your skin to improve in appearance. Many Women who have twins (such as myself) end up with split abdominal muscles and skin that has stretched beyond repair. It is baggy even when you lose the weight and can look like crepe paper. Some younger Mums manage to bounce back. I'm in my late 20s and I think my tummy has improved alot better than Mums at least 10 years older. Even still, tummy tuck is something I really want and they do lipo anyway most of the time alongside.
I'm pretty sure that you have to be done having kids to have an abdominoplasty though and I am just not sure. That is why I thought liposuction may be good in the mean time to at least make my tummy a bit better. I had a C-section and I don't know if it would get in the way of lipo or not but the scar likes to stick in close to my body like a kink even if I do put weight on. I hate it. I so wanted a natural birth and would have been more motivated to get it if I knew what my tummy was going to look like. A tummy tuck would eliminate the c-section scar and surroundings altogether hopefully.
I'm waffling on sorry. Alot of Mums of twins will have been through this dilemma. Have you tried the NZ twin support page on FB? I know one that has good advise on natural births if you are interested but it is an international one.

As the others have said, all your concerns are completely valid, some will eventuate as you expect and others won't even register.
My advice regarding the pregnancy and delivery would be to prepare yourself but don't stress too much about the whatifs. Take each day as it comes.

There is a saying that only those who can cope are blessed with multiples and IMO that makes your family very lucky .
It will be tough, no doubt about it but the amazing experiences and special moments will outweigh the dramas.

Def get in touch with your local Multiple Birth Club for support and resources. You can hire loads of baby items so a great way to save money.
The NZ Multiple Birth Facebook page is a huge resource for parents of multiples (including a place to vent about all the crazy and unhelpful behaviours you'll experience from friends, family and randoms!)I imagine the Triplets page would be the same so even though you avoid FB it may be worth it for the support.

Talk to some other triplet families before making decisions about buggies etc. You'll benefit from their experiences. The few that I know opt for a double buggy and a good baby carrier cos the triple buggies are enormous.

You'll also be entitled to homehelp hours from WINZ which can be used for a nanny or cleaner etc.

All the best and congratulations

Edited by Danda08 - 01 January 2013 at 4:33pm

I don't know if it helps much, but I can help you with one very small thing on your list. One of the guys from Phil & Teds started a new stroller company that makes strollers for multilples. They are called the Adventure Buggy Company

http://adventurebuggycompany.com/products.htm

I suspect the emotional shock is going to be the biggest, but there are probably practical solutions to the other stuff, good luck!

We are in our 30's and never considered having a big family, maybe just one. At a 6 week scan we found out we are expecting twins.

Im 17 weeks now and I still dont think its really sunk in yet. I worry about additional complications that come with multiples also, and since we also had a miscarriage im constantly paranoid that something is wrong.

I think my husband came around to the idea a lot faster and he is understanding that the terrible morning sickness tends to take the shine of anything which is why im not 'excited'.

Have you been in touch with your local Multiple Birth club? They have reading material, coffee groups to meet others with multiples, ante natal class and you can hire equipment, which can take some of the sting out of the initial costs.

We also want to send out kids to private school.. have you looked into the different savings schemes which you can start right from birth to get a head start? how about grandparents, would they be keen to add a bit of cash to a saving scheme rather than buying toys etc in the first few years? maybe its still possible?

Good luck to you and your family Nick!

    Author: Kels152
Subject: Worried father of 1 with triplets on their way
Posted: 22 December 2012 at 11:40am

Hi Nick,

I am a mother of 3 month old twins, and also have a 7 year old daughter. I completely understand how you are feeling, and I know that in time your worries will lessen and you will be as excited as your wife.

My partner and I decided to try for a baby at the end of last year, wanting just 1 more child to complete our family. I had always pictured having a 4 person family also - 2 kids would be enough for me and my partner was the same. We then found out we were having twins. We were shocked, scared, and stressed thinking about what we would do financially, how I would handle two newborns at home alone while my partner was at work, and all the rest of the worries you have.

Then we found out we were having twin girls, and I have to say we were a bit dissapointed - already having a daughter we would have loved to at least have one boy, but it wasnt to be. We got over it after a while and got excited about having 3 girls in the house.

After a while all you care about is having healthy children and doing the best you can for them. A private school may be your dream, but if it doesnt happen is it really the end of the world? Children can have a great education at public schools, and in all honesty you just do what you can!

People ask us now "how do you do it?" and the answer is - you just do. Yes it's hard and there are never enough hands but you work out ways of doing things that make it easier, you will get plenty of help from the government with triplets, and there are plenty of women who have triplet pregnancies and births with no complications. Our pregnancy with twins was fine, no problems whatsoever and had a great birth at 37 weeks, babies spent no time in special care and we were home in two days. You cant have ANY expectations with these things - good or bad - because you never know what is going to happen, you just do the best you can and deal with anything that comes up.

Your daughter will love having 3 brothers and/or sisters! How exciting for her to be able to help and play with them all and show them off to her friends. Our daughter is so proud of her twin sisters and loves to help and play with them.

I know triplets are one step up from twins but Im just trying to share from my point of view - someone who has had those worries and has now come out the other side if you know what I mean!

You may have your dreams etc and they may not all be possible now, but that's life, things happen that you have no control over and you cant change so you just get on with it. This has happened and you have to make the best out of what you have. Yes you will miss out on things and it will be hard financially, you may have to sell a vehicle to get a bigger car, but you will have three beautiful babies who share an amazing bond and the love you will have for them will make all of your worries and sacrifices worth it. I think it would really help you to talk to a father who has triplets, if you join the New Zealand Multiple Birth Group you will have access to lots of advice and be able to talk to parents of triplets.

All the best and enjoy your new family!

    Author: Hopes
Subject: Worried father of 1 with triplets on their way
Posted: 22 December 2012 at 6:59am

I don't blame you for being floored! I would love twins or triplets, but even then in the eventuality I think it would take some getting used to! I can also talk as someone who had to try for a while to have children - you don't sound selfish, all your concerns are pretty valid.

I do think that once the shock wears off, you'll be able to see the positives more, because I would put money on the fact once they're here you're going to be totally in love and wouldn't change things for the world. That doesn't mean it's not OK to be pretty freaked out right now, of course.

For now, would it help to work out how you're going to work around the things you talk about? For example, yes, it's going to be hard work getting three out and about. But with a good double stroller and a carrier like a manduca (I still carry my two-year-old in one from time to time, so it works for oldder toddlers), it would still be possible for one person to take them places. Other parents of multiples will have other tips for making this work, I'm sure!

I suppose as one of eight children, it would also be possible to say I've 'missed out' - while I didn't have three the same age to contend with, except for in the very early days my parents' attention was spread over seven other children. I would NEVER change it, it was great... I'm sure your older daughter will say the same thing when she's my age. There are disavantages, but there are advantages too.

With schooling, on the plus side you have time to think your options over. Some private schools have scholarships, which might be worth looking into. And even if you don't go that way due to lack of income, you'll be able to make a plan to ensure that your kids get a great education.

And thanks for the advice, unfortunately however, I avoid Facebook like the plague.

There is one other point I missed out that I would like to add, and that is the chance of complications with this pregnancy are so much higher than a singleton, I don't think I could deal with something happening to my partner or the babies. It's scary to know now that these babies will be pre-term and there's no two ways about it. Potentially not pre-term for triplets, but they're individual babies who require a 40week term, but full term for these little guys we're told is 36weeks, just becuase of room. And that's if they even make it to 36weeks...

    Author: Nick102027
Subject: Worried father of 1 with triplets on their way
Posted: 21 December 2012 at 10:11pm

Hello,

An introduction.. Apart from a forum I built a few years ago, I never use them. But my current concerns raise the need, and I think the title says it all.

My partner and I have a beautiful 4yo girl who means the absolute world to me. Wanting her to have a brother/sister, as well as to make a complete family (in my view), we tried for another. Early this year we miscarried which was a big blow, but we got back on our horse and tried again.
We are now 12weeks to big healthy triplets. We had the 12week scan today.

I know there are people out there who would love just to fall pregnant at all, and I don't want to sound selfish but triplets is a huge shock. I guess this is why I am venting on a forum. I want to speak my thoughts without being judged, espcially to people who might understand. My partner is over the shock and is very excited, so it's hard to talk to her about my issues. She thinks she doesn't have my support, which in some ways might be true. Before I go any further, I would like to explain why.

1) I always pictured having a family of 4. 2 adults, 2 children. Although this is not a big deal at all, I'm having trouble coming to terms with it. 5 I could cope with, but I never ever imagined 6.

2) My daughter is going to miss out. The triplets will most likely group together and it'll be the triplets and her. Not "her and the baby".

3) Financially this is going to put a huge strain on us. For example, I always wanted to send my kids to private school. But with 4, and 3 all in the same year, this is going to be almost impossible. That's another dream of mine, almost in tatters. But everything we do is going to be much more expensive and potentially we are all going to miss out.

4) Logistically. 4 kids at different times would be OK, but having 3 all at the same stage is going to prohibit us from doing so much. You can't buy triplet strollers. Cars and baby seats is a hassle, and when they learn to walk they will have to be on leads because they will all walk in different directions. We each only have 2 arms!

They would be the key points. They are so many points for each that at the moment, I can't get excited.
Please don't get me wrong. I will love these children with all my heart, as much as I love my daughter. But I want to provide for these in the best way I can, and by having 4, I don't think I can do that in the way I wanted to.

I need help. I would love to talk to some people that have gone through this, hopefully the dads too.

Thanks.

I will also be seeing an OB at our local hospital which was just automatically organised as it's twins, and have my first appointment with them next week. So my pregnancy will be shared between my private midwife and the hospital OB. I think in some places you go through the hospital they have midwives there which are assigned to you...not too sure though. Author: Bobchannz
Subject: Stress
Posted: 05 February 2012 at 9:52pm

So sensible Hopes!

It is fantastic that you are excited about your pregnancy. It sounds as though most of your colleagues are really happy for you.

I'm going in to bat for the other woman - trying to explore some of her experience. If you aren't interested in this then please don't read on! I don't want to come across as mean without a heads up!

Two months is not that long a time to grieve - many women grieve hard for the duration of the time that they would have been pregnant, and then for a short period of time later. The fact that she already has children of no consequence - if you lost a five year old child and had a six and seven year old child as well it wouldn't hurt less because you have other children.

I had a second trimester miscarriage while working at a hospital. I started hating to see new families go home with their babies - previously a perk of the job. But the hardest bit was a colleague who had her first grandchild due around the same time as I had been due. She was thrilled, and very happily showed me scan pics, gave me lengthy pregnancy updates and of course heaps of baby pics. I received a text when the baby was born.

It just about killed me. We were friendly, and I didn't want to diminish her joy and experience. But it hurt a lot. Perhaps I should have mentioned something to her quietly - but I didn't want to make a huge fuss. It was really painful and made work really trying. I would come home crying some days. I grieved really hard for my lost baby for well over a year, and the date that she was born and died is still very difficult for me.

I kind of get the feeling here that it seems that there is no space in your workplace for her to grieve and for you to celebrate. All the congratulations and excitement that you receive for your pregancy is something that she was going to get as well. It really, really hurts. I bet you are asked how you are doing regularly - people very rarely ask women who have miscarried how they are doing after a couple of weeks. It may be very hard for her to get this kind of enquiry from you - a lot of women who have recently miscarried find it very, very difficult to be around pregnant women generally.

It sounds like your colleague would like some space from you - if you are unhappy with her not responding to your greetings then why bother? If she is still upset two months after her miscarriage that is still a very normal timeframe for grieving. It is in no way dysfunctional (most health professionals use a rough timeframe of six months as a normal time to grieve).

I worry about the benefits of talking to your manager about this. Is it genuinely a work problem? Or is it an interpersonal problem that does not impact on the work that you do, just your enjoyment of it? I ask because I wonder about what a manager would do with this kind of scenario. How is it likely to play out? I think your manager would be between a rock and a hard place.

Can you just ignore her and enjoy your special pregnancy with those who choose to share in your happiness? Discuss it at work and be happy, just try and keep the conversations to a minimum around her.

    Author: Hopes
Subject: Stress
Posted: 03 February 2012 at 5:33pm

It does sound like she's struggling. To be honest I have a lot of sympathy for her. I'm sure you've had times in your life when its all been a bit much too, and you've struggled to cope.

But back to what you do about it... what is it you want? My guess would be ideally, her back to being on friendly terms, aware of her loss but with it not affecting your relationship. And perhaps if that's not possible, at least having a decent working relationship, where you can communicate past the essentials and do pleasantries like saying hello in the mornings. Let me know if I'm reading you wrong.

So, how do you get that? Well, I honestly can't see any answer that's going to work for you other than giving her time and space and being understanding of how she's feeling even if it hurts your own feelings. What are your options otherwise? Somehow force her to talk to you - perhaps by having her up about it, or talking to a manager? If she's not so inclined to at the moment, I can only see that going one of two ways - her forcing herself to talk to you for the sake of her job (and I'm sure that's not what you really want) or leaving work (and lets try not to put more pressure on someone already hurting, no?)

One other option would be to put how you feel in writing to her. It might help your relationship - but I'm reluctant to suggest it because honestly, I think that only something phrased in a really nice, caring loving way would do anything to help. Something a little blunter would probably just make things worse. And from the way you explain your feelings here, I'm thinking that you're hurt by her actions and that might affect how you wrote to her. But if you wanted to, feel free to run what you were going to send her past us, sometimes it helps to have the point of view from someone who's been on the other side of the fence

ETA that there's no need to either hide your pregnancy (as you say, like you could anyway!) or your happiness. Being happy, talking about it to your colleauges, having work throw you a baby shower (hopefully they will ) is part of being pregnant, and she does need to live with that even if she finds it hard. Obviously, talking to her about it is probably a no-go, as is loudly proclaiming near her desk that you're so HAPPY to be PREGNANT (I'm sure you wouldn't!)

Edited by Hopes

I have given her my support after two months and given her some space, and i know there is no timeframe for how long to grieve for but its not fair to be accusing me of making her environment uncomfortable. She's making it uncomfortable for herself. I can't hide my giant belly or hush whisper to my other colleagues who ask me questions about my pregnancy, and its actually not fair on me to have to hide what is my first pregnancy and my happiness.

I cannot talk to her as she won't even respond to my good mornings when i walk in or when i have asked how she is she walks out so no chance of talking about something non pregnancy related. Also I just got engaged at Christmas and there was no congratulations on my engagement i still got ignored.

I feel for her situation and i do think about how she feels but its not two way, if she's having emotional difficulties healing then ignoring me or treating me like I'm the bad guy then she needs to get some help because its not helping her heal to treat me this way its holding her back.

This way you'll still be getting plenty of support but you wont be making your workplace an uncomfortable enviroment for her. Have you tried talking to her about non-baby related things? Maybe you could try talking about something you did over the weekend or something and try going from there?

As stressfull as finding out your having twins is, I imagine losing a baby is a lot more stressfull and upsetting. A month is really not a long time to grieve for a baby she lost....... Also I have to say it probably still hurts regardless of if she has other kids and there could also be a possibility that she actually can't try again or can't face dealing with the chances of it happening again.

Maybe try thinking of how she feels and what she is going through, You've just got a double blessing and she's lost a child. She's probably not mad at you but rather finding it very difficult to deal with the loss of her baby.....

That doesn't make it right, necessarily, but I totally understand it. Even with secondary infertility - since she's already got kids - she's struggling so badly with the fact that you've got what she so, so badly wants. She's probably still grieving the loss of her much-wanted baby, and you complaining WILL hurt like hell. To her, you're about the luckiest person alive, and if you whinge you look like you don'' appreciate it.

My advice would be to continue avoiding her, and not be hurt by the fact she wants to avoid you. It's not you, she's just hurt. By all means, feel free to express your feelings around people who will understand (being surprised with twins would be a bit of a shock, and I can totally understand you needing to talk it through, and worrying about the added concerns that come with an extra baby). Just don't do it while she's round... she doesn't want to hear, and you're not going to get any support from her for obvious reasons.

Most of all - and this is perhaps coloured by my own experience, so take it with a grain of salt - but don't consider yourself the injured party here. Despite the added challenges of twins, they'll be a double blessing too. She's not bullying you if she's hurting so much she chooses to avoid you. It could even be the opposite, she could easily be trying to steer clear of you because she doesn't want to say all the things that spring to mind that she knows WOULD be cruel and unfair. Feel sorry for her, not aggrieved.

As you say, she has already two kids, so what is she complaining about? That she had a MC has nothing to do with you and while I can understand that she is probably depressed about it, she should not make you feel bad about being pregnant with twins. So my advice would be to ignore her and just focus on your own wellbeing entirely, that is important now. Try to not think about other peoples problems. Just walk away from it and say that is her problem, not mine.

edited for spelling

Edited by Hibiscus

As there weren't any close to where I was living at the time so I just went with a normal coffee group. I did enquire about it in the beginning though.
Here's the link to the CMBC website http://www.cmbc.co.nz/ it has all the contact details. You should ask them about multiple antenatal classes as well. Even if you've done antenatal classes with your son I've heard it's quite worth while. I never got to do it though as they only run it depending on how many women they have interested. So it always pays to ask if they have one coming up :)
Are you planning on trying for a natural birth or are you thinking of going for the c-section?

    Author: Wannabe
Subject: Introductions!
Posted: 20 October 2010 at 12:54pm

Hi & welcome Janine to a fantastic adventure! Looking forwards to getting to know you along the way.

We're having DC/DA fraternal boy/girl twins and it's been quite a ride so far - I'm 29 weeks tomorrow.

hennypenny:
Sorry I wanted to reply sooner but had to go back through all our scan reports to make sure we had the same thing.

OK, at our 12wk ultrasound & nuchal scans they discovered two areas of subchorionic haemorrhaging: one by the dividing membrane measuring 4.9cm x 1.6cm x 4.1cm (with 17mls of fluid) and another inferior to one of the twins gestational sac measuring 5.3cm x 1.1 cm x 4cm (?mls fluid).

Prior to this scan I had had several light bleeds. My Obstetrician did a quick portable fuzzy scan each week from week 8 to 14 to check that there were still two heartbeats and movements but did not pick up the haemorrhages. I was put on house arrest from week 8 to week 15 & advised NOT to do ANYTHING involving lifting, pushing, or straining (including going to the toilet!). Kinda hard when I was so constipated anyway - sorry to much info!

Anyhoo - I rested up, with great difficulty & the bleeding stopped a week or two later, & I was cleared to go back on light duties with no stress (kinda hard when you're a relief teacher).

By the time we had our 20 wk scans there were no trace of the haemorrhages so I must have done something right!

I hope you have the same positive outcome hennypenny!

Sizes:
Twin 1 (boy) has aways measured slightly bigger than Twin 2 (girl) & at our 26 week growth scan he is almost 110gms heavier (960grams) so we are now on 2 weekly growth scans to make sure she is still growing. She sure does wriggle/kick ALOT more than him so maybe she's burning more calories

Next growth scan is tomorrow so I'll let you know how they are growing.
