Hi Kobec, we got Menevit through Fertility Associates, they get it couriered from Australia, and the goat weed was from www.radiuspharmacy.co.nz or any usual health shop like Health2000 or a chemist

I haven't heard of this Menevit... will have to check it out!

We have been trying for 4yrs, we are dealing with MFI as well. DH has <1 million count (weren't given a #), and borderline motility, the report said that there were too few sperm present to check morph (WTF!!!)

I am also way overweight for publicly funded IVF - need to lose about 30kg to qualify (sigh!)

Anyone keen to start a weightloss group to try and qualify?

You would think getting pregnant would be enough to get me going - but I just feel so alone!

Hey There, Jen,

Keep your chin up, mate. Losing weight is not always the easiest task to do.   I would not have thought it would have made any difference if you are a little overweight to qualify for publicly funded IVF. Pity.

I just wish you both the very best on your IVF path.

Hey Jen,
I am in the same boat as you, DF count was 700,000 and I need to lose 30kg as well, I think the system sucks as as fas as we know I am healthy in the fertility department. I thought it would be enough to make me lose weight as well but it wasnt!
keep positive

Go and visit your GP and tell them a friedn tried Duromine to lose weight for IVF...thats what mine put me on to get the weight down faster, once I got to borderline 32 BMI I would have been on my own again, but that worked for me cos thats what we needed to be for IVF anyways.... as it turned out... the Horny Goat Weed and Menevit def did the trick.... 2 blood tests, 4 HPTs and a scan all say I am def preg lol... so had to stop with the duromine... and just after I had picked up 2 months worth even...lol!

yu can get Menevit if you go through FA, we went privately right up until we got the verdict of needing IVF....

And using DP as an example... sometimes the professionals can get it all oh-so-wrong... dont give up!

Oh and I was 36BMI, and have ov'd like clockwork every month... so no issues here either... I have a DS from prior marriage to prove that too!

*Lurking* congrats Babykatz

But I can agree with the duromine, it is really good to help losing weight. I had a huge water retention problem and my dr put me on this for a month and combined with good eating and exercise I lost 10kgs in a month!!! Hope you can get some. It is a class C controlled drug so some drs are reluctant to prescribe it and it is pricey put so worth it.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Hey thanks everyone for your quick and supportive replies!!

I felt really embarrassed saying that I need to lose 30kgs just to qualify...

Will definitely look into duromine. Am upping my walking and have just started winsor pilates too - this weight HAS to go!!!

Besides I would prefer to be slimmer when I get pregnant... and I want to lose the weight regardless!

Hi there,
Our ICSI IVF is due to male factor as well. We are on our second round of IVF now. Also I had to loose weight and yes it is hard. I had already lost some weight before hand, but the moment I found out I had to, for some reason it was a lot harder. It was also upsetting, because although I would never blame my fiance, the fact I had to loose so much weight before I was considered really hurt, as I am perfectly fertile. Once more, I had to do the treatment/drugs/egg collection etc. Of course I would do anything to have a baby with my lovely fiance, but it feels like a kick in the gut when the doctors say oh no, you must loose weight first.
Just stay strong and picture that beautiful baby in your arms at the end of it. It's so worth it.

Be careful with Duromine ladies, yes it does work to increase metabolism and suppress appetite but it does have some serious side effects too.

I was on Duromine for about a month and while i lost a couple of kilos (could have been that I was eating better too) every time i exercised it felt like my heart was going to jump right out of my chest. I had heart palpitations at rest and sometimes found it hard to catch my breath (which probably didnt help the palpitations)

Just be careful,

edited for spelling

Just thought I would bump this back up for the New Year.
We have male infertility due to a reversed vasectomy operation done in Mar 07.
We are luck to have some sperm return and although we have pretty good numbers where motility is concerned our count has never been any thing higher than 9million in total.
We have done the vitamins for pretty much a year, and they haven't made that much of a difference.
We are not going to do the IVF or IUI thing.
But I would love to keep chatting with others that are going through this kind of thing as well.
Look forward to chatting with you.

Just wondering if someone can give me the answers to a few questions running through my head. Hubby completed SA today with a trial wash as the previous sample wasn't too great post reversal. Turns out that today's is even worse with no sperm seen. Booked the appt with specialist etc for review so will find out next steps - but ?what are our options? Any experiences are welcomed!

I wonder if there is some sort of infection or swelling or at worst scarring that is blocking the sperm getting through.
May pay to as specialist or doctor about that.

I know just how olympics feels. We tried for about the same time and ended up at FA.   After DH had biopsy after no sperm count we were told there were no options but to get a donor or adopt. We were devastated,   I still have twinges around pregnant women and babies although its been over 2 years since we found out.   People have stopped asking when we;re having kids now, thank goodness.   I still cry at night sometimes when i thing what could have been[

QUOTE=olympics] Hi all

My partner and I tried to conceive for about 18 months before finally seeking help at Fertility Associates. I was completely shocked to find out that our issue was due to him having a low (pretty much zero) sperm count. Up to that point I had imagined it was all me! We don't know why he has no sperm - everything we could think of seemed to be ruled out by the specialist. (We still suspect that it is due to an illness he suffered as a child that meant he was on antibiotics for 18 years but the specialist seems to think there is no research evidence to support this!) Any way we now find ourselves counting on someone donating sperm to be able to conceive. I can 't imagine the guilt my beautiful man must feel every time we see a baby, or every time I get upset at our situation. He is very private about it and so we haven't told anyone about our circumstances. This makes it a bit of a lonely journey but I respect his need for privacy.
I emphathise with any one in this situation - it is really hard and I wish you all the luck in the world.[/QUOTE]

Hello to everyone!

Thought i would drop a line or 2 ... heres my story(short version).

DH has sperm antibodies - due to vas reversal and after our 2nd failed ivf cycle while on the pill for our 3rd cycle we recently found out has bad DNA frag damage makes sense cause we get a good number of eggs but does not end up being good embies at all.
Now after 3 failed ivd/icsi cycles we going back for a review. I have been doing some research on this as due to male factor... TESA maybe a good option to consider as the newest freshest sperm the best, also a sperm sorting machine (new technology not in nz yet i believe).

Anyone know much about TESA? did it work?

Daunting thinking of yet another cycle.
Once we see the Dr again we will know more.

Good luck to you all!

Apparently they wanted to do TESA on my poor man due to a chromasome issue.
We eventually decided against it as it was a pretty invasive surgery to retrieve sperm of which there was a small percentage that there would even be any - think it was 5%
Plus it may have affected his testosterone and he could have had to have testosterone injections for the rest of his life.
We decided the risks far exceeded the success rates and went down the donor sperm path.

This was our 3rd IUI with donor sperm and so far - early days yet - has been sucessful.

Good luck on your journey
