Welcome Seagersbaby! And congratulations! Twins are great! Must be very exciting for you and your DH. How did you find out? I found out at my twelveweek scan. Had no suspicion although quite bad MS.

Danda, no daysleeps?! Mine still sleep, although sometimes very late in the day and a bit random. Need to catch up.

Congrats Seagersbaby and welcome .
Just to share my story, I had 2 sacs and 2 placentas so was told non identical as well but we had our twins tested at 18 months and they are ID. There are quite a few families I now know who have also been given wrong info during the pregnancy so if your babies are same sex and look similar it's worth finding out.
Here's some info if you feel like a read

Hibiscus I dropped the day sleeps when we moved them into beds at the end of last year. I'd been forcing days sleeps for ages anyway and even a small nap meant they were a complete nightmare to settle at night. They adjusted really quickly thankfully cos the afternoons were pretty feral with no sleep initially and bedtime is now a much more peaceful and less prolonged affair!

Totally keen to catch up soon. We're free most days in Jan

HI everyone! I found out at 7 weeks as i had a scan, i had a scan at 6 weeks and there was one empty sac and one with a foetus in, then the following week there were 2 heartbeats and 2 sacs!

Just a question, is it normal to feel cold, i keep feelng really cold and have to wrap up with a blanket, last night i has 2 duvets on, not sure of its just the hormones, i dont want to go to the doctor if its something thats just the norm!

I don't remenber being cold at all. Quite the opposite, although much later in the pregnancy, I was always feeling warm (didn't want to write hot). So don't know, Seagersbaby, perhaps you feeling cold is unrelated to being pregnant. Could you just be getting a cold?

That's odd about the one sac appearing to be empty to begin with, bub must've been hiding somewhere...

Thanks Danda!

The day sleeps are starting to get a little easier. I think the heat has a lot to answer for too. We have started swaddling again and this seems to have helped. Plus we bought a fan for their room. They seem to have a decent sleep in the morning and then another at about lunch time. Later in the day though at around 2:30pm-3pm it seems to turn to custard! They don't want to sleep and we end up killing time till we can put them down for the night at about 5:30-6pm at that time they are really grumpy. There is so much to learn eh! I'm amazed at how much sleep they are actually supposed to be getting. I ended up ringing Plunket because i thought surely we can't expect them to sleep 12 hours over night then have naps during the day as well but they said we should still be trying to get them down within the hour to an hour and a half.

Hi Twin Mummies

I have just been for a scan and found out we are pregnant with twins. The only thing is that my hcg hasn't doubled - it went from 2750 to 4900 in two days....I figured it would've more than doubled with twins! Today at the scan (I'm 5 weeks) they could see two sacks but no yolk sack. The scan lady said she would've like to have seen one at this stage. So I'm not feeling very optimistic. Just wondered if anyone else has been through this with twins and come out the other side.

Hi Babygiraffe

Congrats on your pregnancy! Sorry i have no advice but 5 weeks is early to have a scan. Perhaps it was just a little to early? We didn't have our first scan till 9 weeks....

Shells they are GORGEOUS!!!! Loving the pics!!! Yay for sleeping through the night, thats awesome, nice for you to get some decent sleep! Ours sleep after every feed during the day for between 1-3hours, although when it's really hot they wouldn't sleep at all, we were wrapping them and it was too hot but they wouldnt sleep unwrapped. We have just gotten back from our holiday in Oz and it was so hot there - they slept unwrapped straight away and have been ever since which is awesome, now they sleep even on hot days but still need a fan for their room.

Trip to Oz was good, the girls were pretty good on the plane, slept for about an hour in the bassinette so we got to eat and even watch a bit of a movie which was great. They let us take our Mountain Buggy all the way to the gate which was the biggest thing we were worried about, front packs are def a must though when going from gate to plane and plane to baggage pickup.

Congrats on your pregnancies seagersbaby and baby giraffe!! I have 4 month old frat girls - we had two sacs and placentas also and the girls look quite similar so may one day get the test done unless they start looking really different. They say ID twins have the same eye and hair colour and otherwise can have totally different face shapes etc - is this true?It looks as though our girls eyes are starting to change to diff colours.

We had our first scan at 5-6weeks and there was two sacks but one baby was much smaller and we were told at the next scan we would probably only have 1 baby - but next scan there were 2 with great heart beats and the same size. Not sure what seeing no yolk sacs means babygiraffe - did the radiologist (?) say much about it?

Hope everyone is OK.
From the scan, yes i was just on 6 weeks, i thought i was a few days over but i wasnt and thats why we didnt see anything from the first scan as twin 2 was a bit smaller than twin 1. im excited to go to our next scan so we can see the babies again!
Baby giraffe - i didnt know i was having twins and my HCG levels we about the same and then all of a sudden they shot through the roof, hopefully yours will do the same, are the testing you regularly?

Does anyone have any advice on sleep training? My 2 are 3.5 months old. Is this to early to sleep train? Most of the time they are good sleepers but today is a nightmare! Luckily they sleep well at night but day sleeps are hard. I was blaming the heat but it's not hot today and they are so unsettled. Hearing the crying really gets to me too. I keep going in to re settle them but this just seems to make it worse. They really look exhausted and need to sleep. It's been an hour now. and they are still screaming. Declan was asleep but Ailish eventually woke him up. This is so hard....

Awww Shells, I feel for you. It really is tough when they won't settle. And if they're anything like my two, they get into a cycle of overtiredness.
Most pro sleep training advocates advise against sleep training until at least 5 months.

A few things off the top of my head.

Given that it's been an hour already you might need to get them up and do the feed, play, sleep routine again.

How long were they up before you tried putting them down? Often in the morning the awake time is less than usual so you could try settling them at 45-60 mins.

Can you seperate them for a bit? Bring one into the lounge? One crying baby is def easier to deal with than two and stressing about the other one waking is horrible (I still do it!)

Have you got the fan going? Even though it's not hot, the white noise might help. Or have you got a radio you can tune to static?

Have you tried using a dummy? I don't like dummies but gave them to my two out of deseperation at the same age yours are. While they weren't a cure they did work a bit.

Tight swaddling

And the miracle cure for us was using hammocks for day sleeps. Do you know anyone who could lend you one? We started with one and it worked so well we promptly got another one. My girls had all day sleeps in them until they were 6 months.

Hang in there, you'll nail it but it does take some hard work.

Congrats Sarah D!! How exciting :)

Seagersbaby - I found I went through phases of thing - not being able to sleep, needing to pee alot, everything I had tended to last for a while and then get better, by the end as huge and uncomfortable as I was I was sleeping better than I did early on so I hope it gets better for you too :)

Aww Shells hang in there hun!! We have days like that too - lately Ruby has been screaming in the afternoons and it's so hard to calm her down. Our girls tend to get like that when they are overtired, going through a growth spurt, or have had abig day out the day before. I would do as Danda suggested - maybe get him up and do the routine again, or put them in a pushchair and go for a walk? When one of ours gets like that sometimes the only thing that halps is to get them and have them cuddle into you on the couch - usually then crash out straight away. Im not someone who picks my babies up when they cry - I like to let them self settle, but when they get really upset like that and im pulling my hair out I know that will work. I dont do it again the next time in case it starts a habit and they don't usually get upset again so it works well for me. Hope you find something that helps! We use dummies as comforters for ours and wouldnt be without them. Big hugs xo

Thanks Danda and Kels! I was having a terrible day! It's amazing the stages they go through and how fast they change eh! Day sleeps have improved again. Who knows for how long, i'm sure they will still have their moments. Neither of them will take a dummy. I keep trying every few days when i'm desperate but they are just not interested. I have white noise too which seems to help them settle too. I also got the "Love to Swaddle" swaddle and that also seems to help. I can't believe how much the crying upsets me though. You would think i would be used to it by now! I can borrow a hammock through the multiples club so i may do that. Thanks for the advice ladies, much appreciated!

I hope everyone is well :)

Our baby girls were born on 6 February 2013 - Jenna Elise born 6lb3oz and Hannah Louise born 5lb9oz at 36.5w by emergency c-section. Both at last scan were head down ready to go and the day I was induced due to pre-e they decided to flip and go breech, unknown to us until I was denied an epi due to low white blood count and had to make a decision to go natural or not, was 5-6cm at the time and we decided to do a quick scan to check all good to go, thank goodness we checked as it could have turned bad very quick. So was very drama filled and with my own blood pressure issues we ended up a total of 14 days in hospital but now home and growing well :)

Hi Everyone,

We just found out yesterday that we are expecting twins! Total surprise at the 12 week scan - so slightly terrified! All seems good so far?

I already have a toddler - is there anything I need to change about my day to day doings this early on? I know later on I'll be more tired etc than last time but now... it all seems ok?
