i was induced early becasue of my blood pressure going up really high, i never developed toxemia, my midwfie thought it would be safer to get bubs out before it could develop. i was monitered lots, and had several bloods taken until i was induced. my friend had developed a month before and had to have a c-section a month early but she had it quite bad. i remember visiting her in hospital and her having a big jug of pee next to her bed! lol.

sorry not much help, in fact i didnt answer your question! argh! is there a chance you have got it jezsika?

Symptoims can come on quite quickly or gradually, they usually include swelling/fluid retention of hands feet and especially any swelling of face must be reported to your midwife STRAIGHT AWAY. high blood pressure, some women get really bad headaches cos their blood pressure is so high, some get visual disturbances.. if in doubt about anything check it out... my little sis, with her first baby was hospitalised and induced, and she had very little swelling at all, her blood pressure had been fine before and all she had was her vomiting had started back up in the last 2 days(which she didn't take much notice of cos she'd had it on and off right the way thru), she felt alittle off and had a headache that was getting worse, oh, and her feet felt hot and itchy. once they got her to the hospital thinking it was probably low-grade all her tests showed that she was in real bad condition. so as i say, if its not normal for you or just seems wrong, check it out - you've come so far, the last thing you want if something to risk your health or that of bubs.

Novel over. lol

I had it, pray you don't get it. I had been booked to be induced, and was on bed rest over the weekend, and Jj came on his own accord, luckily. It did mean having to have an epi to lower bp, though. Everything was ok in the end, but it wasn't a very nice feeling, having huge massive cankles and feet, and breathless. yuk yuk yuk

Has your midwife done Ketone Sticks (urine)? If she has and you have toxemia you will have a + or ++ of protein, high B/P etc. I didn't get the swollen hands / feet until I was in hospital being induced. That is the short story of what happened to me.

Hey Jezsika my SIL had it. She went into prem labour on my wedding day (26th feb 05) she went into hospital and they gave her the steriolds (sp?) to develop baby's lungs, she was then sent home and the tuesday and she came back to my house and i said to her ' your not aloud to go into labour'. She came in and woke me up at 4am wednesday morning and asked if she could have a shower cause she had a bad head ache she jumped in the shower then my hubby woke me at half 7 and said that i needed to take nicky to the hospital. We got into Lakes Prime Care and her blood pressure was bloody high can't remember what it was but it was high and she had protein in her urine. We went on up to the hospital and the specalist she that she was gona be having a c-section later on that day. Nicky was in so much pain her head was pounding. From the time she went into prem labour it took a couple of days for her to get pre-eclampsia but from when she left hospital it happened really fast. Then little Kyan was born weighing in at 4lb as he was 7 weeks early, but now he is 16 months old and doing great. Wasn't a nice thing to see nicky go through but i guess this is just one of those horrible things that go along with pregnancy.

Hi
I have swollen hands and feet and a puffy face, Im not concerned though as I have no protein in my urine and blood pressure is fine. I wouldn't worry about puffy hands and feet, but I would worry if it came on suddenly and was really bad. I think a certain amount of swelling is normal.

I had it when I was pregnant with Andrew. Slowly over the last 10 weeks the swelling increased and my BP increased. It was only little but over time there was the increase. At week 37 I was at +++ with the protein in my urine. I was admitted to hospital and then discharged 3 days later as they didn't want to induce me that early (only a month). 1 week later I was back in hospital as everything had come back (38 weeks now) I was keeped in and told that they would induce me the next day every day. My BP was sitting aroung 90/150 and protein at +++ and the swelling was unbeleivable. I got to 39 weeks and my specialist induced me that morning as over night I had put on 7 kg's in one day. If you have a big weight gain over night then that is a big clue to get that baby out of you as you are very sick. Up until 37 weeks I had a normal weight gain (about 10 kg's) at the end of my pregnancy I had gained a total of 35kgs (fluid mostly). I felt like a blob and was so glad that after 3 days after having Andrew I had mananged to loss 15 kgs already. Keep an eye on swelling and if you notice you have gained weight.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
