Wow how many weeks will you be then Phantom? thats a long wait. I am unsure what i think i am having. Sometimes i think girl and all the old wives tales say girl. But another part of me thinks its another little boy. That freaks me out abit because my 2 year old son is soooo full on. But to late now and i will love this new little person no matter what it is

Nervous dad-to-be here. Baby is due Feb 23rd, and it's the first for us both. Looks to be growing a bit ahead of schedule, but then I was born a month early and full-sized! :-)
We're all set with a midwife and are looking forward to Wellington Hospital in the New Year.
Just wanted to say hi.

I had the same thing the other day mariabb1! she said "oh you will be pleased to have your pregnancy out of the way by summer" i responded "i will be in my third trimester then, not due until February" she looked very embarrassed!
Yay for some other ladies in Dunedin! We need to organize a catch up at some stage :)
We have 1 more week until our scan and 2 more weeks until we have our Gender Reveal Party! I sooooo cant wait!

I must say I have definitely gotten a lot bigger in the past week. Don't have our scan for a couple more weeks yet. Got given a 6mth old capsule last week s that just leaves the pram to get as that was the 2 things we needed to buy this time round.

My belly has grown so much over the last week. I am finally looking pregnant, not just fat. Its strange tho, getting used to an expanding middle. Finding it hard to sit upright for too long (need to recline), and when I am out feeding the animals, ducking under the electric tape fences is definately getting harder (they are about 80cm)...

Just returned to the real world, from 4days tramping in the Ruahine ranges. It was amazing, I have always been into hiking, so its nothing new, but every trip is a new experience. It snowed a lot, and bubs has now been nicknamed 'snowflake' by my friends and tramping buddies. I was suprised that I coped well with the long days walking, the only problem was the hip belt on my pack needed a bit of extending!!!!

We are planning our next tramping trip for a week at the start of October, thinking it will probably be my last for a while.... I expect I will just get too big.

My scan is in a week, how exciting. So far, no movement, but the midwife told me not to expect anything before 20weeks, so I will take her advice.
Welcome to the newbies, its a good place to chat!

I didnt feel my first baby move til 20 weeks- its perfectly normal- I think u feel subsequent babies a lot earlier cos u know what it feels like. I can feel this baby now- usually about half an hr after Ive been lying in bed at night. I have to have at least half my belly against the bed, and it feels like wee wee bubbles down low- but only happens a few times and I have to be really concentrating!

Are you about to become a first time parent in February 2013? If so congratulations! We are conducting a study to find out how prepared first time parents (mother and partner) feel they are for labour and giving birth, and how this contributes towards their sense of birth satisfaction (for partners as well as mums!). We are also looking at how this influences what parents feel about being a family for the first 6 months after their baby is born. So if you are less than 24 weeks gestation and resident in NZ please check out our website to see if you are eligible to take part: www.firsttimebirth.co.nz and our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/FirstTimeBirths

When you go for your 20week scan, do you need to fill your bladder? I was given an appointment card from the radiology place, and it says for abdominal scans not to eat for 6hours prior, and to drink 3 glasses of water. Is this right for a preg scan... I am going to be dying if I cant eat for 6hours prior (its at 10:15am).

No thats not right at all- eat and drink as normal- the form I got from the hospital for my first scan at 5 weeks 6 days said if the scan was before 12 weeks preg then u must drink a litre of water and hr before hand,...well I did and was sooo busting to pee- told the scan guy that and he was like- go to the toilet- you dont need a full bladder- and he was able to see baby fine!

Hey Bee T, I don't think so! I ate and drank normally the day of, the booking lady made a point of telling me not to bother with the drinking heaps this time, I think they only need to do that for the 12 week scan so your bladder pushes everything into a better position, but baby is big enough now that you don't need to do that. Call them if you are not sure. Maybe the no eating is for people who are having their stomach or guts scanned? No idea.

Yip never heard of not eating. And on our form it just says dont go to the toilet for 1 hour before the scan. Dont have to drink extra. Im a bigger girl and had no problems seeing baby and have some lovely clear picture's

Thanks for your support gals.
Yeah they know im due & so happy for us. But Im feeling guilty, even though i know thats silly & thats the last thing they would want.

We'll just be there for them when they need us, & keep our baby stuff on the down low for the next few weeks.
