I just got a lovely $620.00 put in my account by IRD for the Childcare rebate.

You can apply for this rebate if you are earning taxable income and pay over $900 and something per year for childcare. (Which isn't hard with the price of childcare!)

The rebate is a set amount $310... but you can apply for previous years if you have not done so already.

All I had to do was fill in the form and get a receipt printed out from my creche showing the amount I had paid over the year and voila! Lots of money!

Go read the details http://www.ird.govt.nz/yoursituation-ind/parents/parents-rebates.html - here and get the IRD 526 form.

I love my workmate who told me about this!!!

It's wonderful isn't it Nikki, we only found out about this this year too so were able to claim back for the last 3 years worth, cam e at just the right time when we were moving house and our car broke down, so helped us through that tough spot nicely without too much crazy.

I agree Hannah is looking very grown up!

So can you still get the rebate if you get the childcare subsidy? We get the subsidy, but I still pay $200 a month for Maya's preschool/daycare.

Emma, yep, if you pay some of the daycare then you are entitled to claim for what you have paid which for us last year was a fair whack once i started work.

Is it true that both partners can claim the same costs? So you can get $620 in total for only one child? Same receipts and everything? I guess its if you spend over $1800 as there's 2 of you?

Ask the daycare for a tax reciept from your fees paid from the start and to the end of the financial year.

hmmm so can both claim then? if so we pay $12000 in DC fees so would be nice to get something back! and guess if that was the case then i need two receipts? in one name each?

not sure about that, all the daycare will write is the amount recieved for her fees for the year, i suppose they could do 2, one in each of your names but would basically halve the amount they have recieved for the year on each tax reciept IYGWIM lol. either way it would probably end up being the same amount you would recieve back. I think.... lol

and i dont know how they calculate the amount the government will rebate you. I just know it from the daycare side of things

$310.00 is great but its not per child so if you have two children in daycare its still only $310.00 which I think isn't fair. $310 in the grand scheme of things (like paying $12k per child in creche) is a drop in the ocean but its great when you get it...just should be per child in creche

What if I have them in separate childcare? Like Maya was in preschool so I paid them x amount, and the gremlins have a nanny so I pay her y amount.

I know what you mean! We pay around $12k in childcare too so even if we each get $310 back it's nothing! Not that I'll be complaining at getting $600 back of course.

I'm pretty sure that's fine... you just need receipts from both sources.

Still think its just the $310.00 once, no matter how many children or if they are going to different places. Doesn't really make any sense to me. Would love to hear if anyone has received more if they had more than one child at childcare.
