Ok! Zaara's been sick on and off for a few weeks now. Coughing, conjunctivitis, runny/blocked nose etc.

and for last few weeks she is refusing to eat. I understand that when you are sick, you dont feel like eating but now she is better and she still refused to eat.

I fight with her every night about this. I have tried making every thing she likes to eat and she wont even touch it. She was always a good eater, she never ate loads but she was eating well at breakfast, lunch and dinner and having snacks in between....but now all she eats with out a fuss is crakers and some fruits.

She has lost 500g and I am worried!!!

hi roksana hows her eating at childcare is she eating there is she having a snack there before you pick her up. because if she is she might not be sooo hungry and her appatite will be low having not been eating for awhile .if she is having a snack maybe ask then to not give her one(some childcare give the kids a little snack at 5pm before mum or dad pick them up) so she is hungry at teatime hope this helps

I did ask them, they said that she hasnt been eating much at lunch either and only has morning and afternoon tea, if she likes what in the menu.....

They are also concerned about her.....I even phoned healthline. They told me give her this and that....tried that and with no luck. GOD I just dont know what else to do!!!

it sounds like she is eating a bit...theres not much you can do - unfortunately we cant force kids to eat. You could try a drink or liquid supplement if you are worried abut vitamins etc. i'm sure if you keep offering her food and dont make a fuss she will come right ...

I think so too. She might like it better, or there might be residue soreness in her ears that makes suckling feel better than eating?

I think the ladies have hit it on the head..I did have a little girl i nannied for that was about 2 yrs old when i started and was lethargic, had just gotten over sickness but didn't really improve, and wouldn't eat, however would gladly take feed after feed of milk, we instituted "operation get rid of the bottle" cold turkey, and what do you know, after a couple of weeks she soon got the idea that she needed to eat.

hi roksana, sorry to hear that zaara's been sick.
i had something like this with mikey a while ago. after he had been sick he was feeding far more than usual, i just mostly went along with it and gradually dropped a bf here and there until he was back down to his usual and his eating slowly got better.
good luck, i hope zaara starts eating better for you.

Roksana I sat with exactly the same problem a few months ago. McKayla had a bad ear infection. Went totally off food and upped her breastfeeding quite a bit.

I did one night tell her straight out you want breastmilk so therefor you are hungry. If you thirsty you can get water and now eat. She was about 15 months old only. She threw a tantrum and refused but I sticked to it. She did eventually eat a few mouthfulls and then get boob. I also cut out all the nightfeeding. No breastmilk before foods at all and not that much to drink.

If you are really worried there is a product called Pedisure. You can get it at the chemist. It is a meal replacement for kids and will help her get what she needs and will wake her system up.

McKayla came right after my strict policy within 3 days. I guess she just gave up. Broke my heart with crying and I was so close to give up breastfeeding totally.

Something I just remembered that help. Go back one step in feeding with her. What I mean is they get pureed food and then lumpy food then normal. See if she will go back and eat lumpy food. Otherwise go back totally to pureed food. Only for a day to let her body start realising it is hungry again and eat. Then go to lumpy and then slowly but surely back on normal food. Helped a lot this side as well.

I'd just continue to offer her food (no fuss or forcing) and if she doesn't want it then no worries, I'd probably not supplement with other food or breastfeeds either (just stick to the usual)

Hopefully soon she'll come right... I guess what I really am trying to say is that you need to relax about it - it can't be doing good things for you! Give her another 3-4 days and see how she goes.

We've just been through the same thing. Alex is 20 mths and went from cold, to ear ache to block tear ducts to cold, to ear ache etc etc. Went off his food, grizzly, unsettled and for us I think it was teeth.....he's always had a hard time with his teeth and it was his eye teeth coming through (two have just broken through, two more to come). If it is teeth then eating would not be pleasant but drinking would be much easier so that could be a reason.

She is getting a bit better...day before yesterday she ate her dinner with out fuss and yet last night she ate a few mouthfuls and then demanded BF.....I said no and she cried and cried....I left her to it and then she ate a bit more with her Dad....and then she was way to tired to eat.

I know some of her teeth are about to come thru and that could be a reason but I still wish she would eat properly!!! She looks sooo skiny to me right now!
