OK - please bear with me while I explain ....
Jakob had heart surgery a few weeks ago, and is a complete runt due to losing heaps of weight before the surgery (he was back to his birth weight at 5 weeks!). Hes only about 4.1kgs now, so I haven't bothered to try my small fuzzies as they look big compared to his little butt (I did use my bum genius AIOs a few times before we went into hosp tho) .... BUT I'm having so much trouble with nappies leaking as hes a) on diuretics and b) in catch up mode so feeding like a prem bub and peeing like a trooper!
I have been using huggies all along, but have tried treasure ultra too (they are giving less pee leaks as they are slightly bigger but then I get poo leaks with them sometimes!). He is going through about 4-5 outfits a day/night at the mo! And thats with nappy changes every 2-3 hours (as thats how often he feeds, day and night).
Do you think I should try my small fuzzies and stuff them heaps? (will he fit them at his weight??) How many inserts will I need? I don't think the bum genius AIOs will be absorbant enough - what do you think? I also have a night napnap (went a bit crazy on nappy shopping when preg!), maybe that would soak up enough as its pretty thick? Or should I move to Infant sized Huggies which may be better length-wise but will swim on him a bit as hes only 4.1kgs? (he has grown in length while he was sick, just got scrawny!).
Any suggestions??
Thanks!!

you could try the fuzzis...and use your nap naps cover as extra protection if they gape round the legs...you'd prob still have to change him every couple of hours so extra stuffing prob wouldnt be needed.

Since you have FB I'd give them a try. Kryssi fitted them at 9lbs which must be about 4kg? She wasn't scrawny though, but she was long and slender and had skinny little thighs! I started her with two inserts, or two inserts and a booster (can't remember) and made sure they were tucked in about the top of the legs. I guess it's worth a try even to just decide to leave them for another two weeks?
Also the likes of Giggles nappies can cross over, I presume you know that?

You may as well give your fuzzis a try. I always use 2 inserts in all my nappies during the day.

Isla fitted her smalls from 5 weeks (4.7KG), so a wee bit bigger. We used 2 inserts then to make it fit better around the legs, and tucked the leg elastic in. You can also cross-over the top waist snaps to make a more snug fit around the waist. As for absorbancy,..maybe try a hemp insert under a mircofibre one, or a hemp/mirofibre insert cos the hemp will hold more. I like the ecobubs ones.

Nikki you can also try crossing the waist snaps over to make them smaller fitting at the waist and this also pulls the legs in too. Definitely tuck the leg elastic back in, great for making the legs fit smaller thighs and for catching those poo explosions!
Let me know if you need any more tips - hope Jakob gets better soon!
P.S
Don't over stuff the nappy as this can also make the legs gape.

OK, not sure if the legs were fitted well enough, but I've done them up on the smallest waist and second smallest leg snap (if you know what I mean) and they seemed to fit. He doesn't have really skinney thighs for a scrawny bum. I used two inserts - he looks very "bottom heavy" - he wouldn't fit normal clothes like he does in disposibles!! (BTW - do they normally fit their clothes well in MCN or do you have to go up a size cos of the extra bulk? Or is it just so bulky cos hes so little and/or cos I have two inserts?)
Will let you know tomorrow how we go over night!

My girls fit normal clothes no prob at all, except in their bubble butt night nappies, but it could be coz the nappies are a wee bit big that they are more bulky on Jakob. Also that all nappies look huge on newborns!
Wishing Jakob a speedy recovery!

OMG - why didn't I try that earlier!?
I put a FB with 2 inserts on before his bath, and after the bath it didn't look like he'd pee'd in it (?) so I put the same one back on at 6pm, I didn't change him at the 10.30 feed and he woke at 1.10am for a feed and no leaks still. I changed him after the feed at about 1.30am, and he didn't wake til 6am, and no leaks! I left that nap on and put him under his mobile cos he seemed very awake (he hasn't gone that long overnight since the before he went into heart failure! but when he wakes after 6 he thinks its morning and time to play) and I went back to bed. I got up to check on him at 7am and he was still happily talking to the mobile and kicking madly .... there was the tiniest leak on his outfit, about 1cm by 2cm on one side - not enough to bother him though.
I have put just one insert in now, and hes gone back to bed - we'll see how he goes with that. At the next feed I'll try an insert and booster, as he will be having his meds then.
Yay!!
I don't know if it was the nap/no leaks that made him sleep longer (I've also been going to bed earlier the last couple of nights and taking blessed thistle to thicken my milk) or if he's just getting stronger/fatter, but it may have helped!

Yay! Glad they worked well for you both!
Just a note- I have always found that just an insert isnt enough- we use an insert and a booster in the day.

That's awesome news!
same here - small inserts will only last an hour or so, best to use them with a booster for day time.

It lasted from 7-9.15 or so with no probs. But he's had his diuretics now so has a booster in as well, so we will see how that goes. He's had to move into 000 singlets (with domes) from newborn in these naps though, as they take up more space than a huggies nap!

ahhh but remember tho a cloth nap will be the same size wet or dry whereas a disposable gets bigger the more in it.! and if you had domes on his singlets that may have been why everything was leaking...squeezing the pee out ...?!

True they do get bigger, but not as big as his small FB. He was still in newborn huggies though, just, they were getting too small (but I tried an infant size and it leaked too!).
He was leaking with singlets without domes too - he actually wears singlets without domes more often, but they are all in the wash this morning!

just a thought, as I remember a friend of mine having a similar problem with disposables.
Is he "pointing down" or of to the side?

I'm so glad I tried them now! No leaks last night either - one nap from 6pm - 3am, and then another from 3am til 7.30am, both with two inserts. And one insert plus booster is enough to last him 3+ hours after his peeing juice (2x diuretcis). Yay! And he looks very cute in them too!!
