We moved 4 months ago and had our mail redirected, without any problems, after two months we extended it.
I got a call today from an angry angry lady asking why we were ignoring their letters and why we hadn't paid!! Then it struck me our letterbox has been very quiet as of late.
So I rang around some other companies and people and it would seem that all of our "redirected mail" was not being redirected!! .
I rang NZ Post and they are investigating for us and advised we go to our old address and see if there is any mail there, so I go over and she tells me she hasn't received any mail apart from a letter today. I opened it and it is a final notice for our flat mates phone bill. (we changed names over when we moved) I asked her where the other ones were and she claims not to have received any. Longer story short I rang telecom they have sent out four previous letters- so where are they? My guess is in the bin.
I have four companies who have confirmed they have sent letters to our old address that's 8 letters so far that have disappeared.
What worries me is ones a bank statement, one's a cheque from Inland revenue (I told him to change his address). And three were claims forms from the MOE, who are now worried about fraud.
So now I have to wait to hear back from nz post to see what is happening. GRRRR where's my freakin mail!!!! .

That sucks..we moved 2 months ago and had our mail redirected for 2 months.. it just ran out actually and I haven't managed to change our address for some things but some of that is due to incompetence with some of the companies, like Spotlight and PP, that I get catalogues for.. tried to change my address in the store, and they said I had to ring up instead

have to say we now destroy mail that keeps coming...esp for that last tenant who was a nightmare....if you cant redirect within that time frame and changee address for most things then it cant be important - your things sound a little different eg MOJ but bank ird etc you should advise them of your new address.
we continue to get bank statements, fly buys etc for people who lived here more than 5 years ago! no idea where those people are now to redirect anyways - and any MOJ ones I call up and advise them that they dont ive here!!! we had our fair share of servers coming here at all hours when we first moved here for the last owners!

That sux! But I kind of know where the lady that lives in your old house is coming from if she did chuck them in the bin... we've been at our new place (bought our property, so not like the last people suddenly moved out or anything) and they didn't even bother redirecting their mail. We have had about 100 pieces of mail for them in the last 6 months, originally I forwarded them on to the new address for the first couple of months, now I burn them.
Stupid NZ Post doesn't even give you the first 2 months of redirection free now! Which is actually disadvantaging the new tenants, not the old ones!
I hope they give you an apology and hopefully nothing's happened that can't be fixed.

Yeah I can understand her throwing them out, we were there for five years and were still getting mail for the previous tenant. I'm more pi**ed at nz post. As emz said it's not free anymore so i expect them to get it right. They checked our redirection and it is active and set up correctly which means the fault is in another department.
The MOH (Not MOE like I said above) is the biggest concern as all they need to do on the forms is fluke my signature and they can claim over a grand in my sons respite care money.
As far as changing addresses go we were slowly weeding our way through them but it didn't seem as important due to having the redirection. Hence to say I spent all afternoon on the phone changing addresses with people, but the dam bank won't let me do it on my own, we have a joint account and DH and I have to both ring up at the same time.

Gosh I hope you get the MOH thing sorted soon, it must be a bit of a worry for you. Hopefully wherever that mail is, the person hasn't opened your mail or anything. You would think that something that had the MOH stamp on it someone would forward on though. Most people aren't THAT mean about mail. Let us know how you get on.

We've been in this place since last October (10 mos) and I still return mail that is directed to people I don't know. But one previous tenant in this place is being chased by Baycorp - who have sent a tracer, then a "to the householder" letter and I phoned them to say I didn't know who she was and was the new owner (back in summer), then they sent another "to the householder" letter (which I opened and then chucked out, cause it was about the same person), now they keep on sending "we will sue you" letters but I am now chucking them in the bin. I opened one. The fight seems to be over all of $360ish, and knowing how Baycorp works it probably started as a $90 debt and they have added heaps of costs to it. I obviously have a lot of confidence in Baycorp lol... blame it on my legal exp
