At my 20 week scan I was told that I had an anterior placenta which is probably why I still haven't felt baby move yet. After reading through some older threads, some suggested that this can actually cause baby's to be in a posterior position later on in the pregnancy.
I just have a few questions for any of you that have had this. 1 - When did you first start feeling baby move? 2 - Was baby in a posterior position late on in the pregnancy or at the birth? -------------

my placenta is anterior. I first felt baby kick about 22 weeks.

My 3rd baby had anterior placenta at the 20wk scan, I felt her moving around 24 weeks I think. She was posterior at birth, even though the placenta had moved (but I'm not sure how much?)... but my 2nd baby was also posterior (don't know about the 1st baby cause she was c/s) and that might just be a 'me' thing apparently (oh great! lol). -------------  |

| not sure about the anterior palcenta thing as was in japan and no one told me anything, but Jake was posterior born. There are lots of horror stories about posterior births - but mine was okay, i had gas, pethidine, and had Jake in about 5 hours. Two stitches ( and in all honesty, the "minor graze" i got from baby two hurt a lot more) and that was it. no problem! |

My placenta was anterior and I felt kicks about 19wks but on one side only. As for posterior baby...well my little monkey was anterior all the way , did a quick posterior switch a few weeks before due, turned back to anterior until labour and then did a 350 degree turn to come out instead of a 10 degree turn....needless to say...he was a boy!

I can't remember where my placenta was, but Daniel did come out posterior. Next time if I have a posterior baby I think want an epidural (only had gas for Daniel) as the birth was not exactly a good one at all and ended up with 12 stitches

I had an anterior placenta when preggers with Ayja and was worried about this too. Ayja i felt a bit later, yes, but once she got into position, fairly late on in the game, she turned perfectly and was in a great position for a 3.5hrs labour. ------------- Janine and her 2 cool chicks, Paris & Ayja

Rhyley was anterior placenta - he was born by ceasar as he was breeched so not too sure what postion he would of ended up as. Josh was posteria birth and it was long and painful (well what labour isn't painful) I had heaps of stitches and he got stuck on my plevic bone (he had a bruise on his head from where he got stuck) but I gave birth to him naturally. he also was a big baby. Brooke was ideal postion ideal placenta postion and ideal birth... (say no more shes was a girl and knew what she was doing LOL)
As for kicks - both boys I felt later although rhyley I felt around 16 weeks no one else felt him kick until around 24 weeks. As for Brooke everyone had felt her by 20 weeks (she sure was a show off) Don't worry too much I am sure not all anteria placentas stay like that (mine moved up with rhyley) and not all will be posteria if the placenta stays put. ------------- Ann

I have an anterior placenta. Bubs has been breech up until 2 weeks ago. They aren't entirely sure what position she is currently in, so I may need to go for another scan. I've been feeling lots of kicks from quite early on. Mostly on the outer edges of my belly. ------------- http://alterna-tickers.com">

I had an anterior placenta too but first felt baby move at 16 weeks and yes she was still posterior at birth despite sitting on a swiss ball for the last month of my pregnancy. Some posterior babies can move around during labour and come out the right way

My placenta is anterior, and I felt her moving from about 13weeks (kicks at about 24weeks). At the moment she is transverse (sideways), so even posterior would be an improvement on that! ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

Sounds like everyones experiences are still quite different. I guess like everything in pregnancy, we'll just have to wait and see how it goes. -------------

at my MW appointments she always had a prod around to monitor her position to see where she was lying. Caitlin was always around my left side (called "LOL" must have had a sense of humour from the start  ) and that's where most of my stretch marks are too. I had an anterior placenta with Ella, and I can't remember exactly when I felt her move, but it was definantly after 20 weeks. She lay posterior throughout the later end of pregnancy, turned the day before she was born, turned back for the whole labour, and then again at the very last minute. I'd read some things about babies being born in a posterior position that scared me, but in all honesty, if I could labour with her facing the wrong way, anyone can (I had M.E at the time and was as strong as a baby lamb! Ha ha). Lots of babies do turn for their arrival, and if baby doesn't, it's still do-able, so try not to worry about it. ------------- Andie |

I have had 3 anterior placentas. My first i didnt feel movement until 23wks and it was a big kick, she was posterior and i had to have a c/s due to her not decending into my pelvis, nothing to do with the placenta as i had a twisted pelvis at the time. #2 wasnt an anterior placenta and i felt her earlier at 18wks, she was posterior during labour also but moved to anterior at the end and it all went good. #3 felt kicks around 19-20wks also, during labour he was everywhere and moving around a lot, really easy labour and birth. #4 felt movement at 19-20wks again, hoping for an easy birth. ------------- DD 9 ~ DD 8 ~ DS 7 ~ DS 5 ~ DS 2 ~ DS 14mths ~ DD 3mths |
