Hi there and welcome to Ohbaby....hope to welcome you to NZ soon too.
My parents and I lived in Zimbabwe for 5 years (between 1990 - 1995)....loved Africa as we traveled to Zambia and South Africa....I am sure you will get residency as IT is a popular career choice and is in demand here in NZ.
Here is hoping! Where in South Africa are you?

Hi Chewie!
My name is Ana and my hubby and I went through the whole permanent residency thing last year as he is German/Polish. I hope it goes through!! We have been living here in NZ since January and in Wellington since April. This site saved me as I didn't know anyone here when we moved and I was pregnant with our first child, Josef, who was born on the 18th of August this year.
Fingers crossed!!

We live in Johnsonville. It is a nice suburb north of the city with a mall and nice schools etc. but still only about 10 minutes drive in to the city.
My hubby takes the train in to work every day as there is a good connection in to the CBD.

No Chewie, as far as I know, none of the family regret moving. My FIL is the oldest of 9, one died aged 5 but the rest and his parents all moved around the same time. My FIL met my MIL here, so I'm pretty sure he's glad he came! (I know I am, if he hadn't I wouldn't have been able to marry his son!)

I have 2 South Afican ladies here at work and I just asked both of them if they regret coming to NZ. One moved here 8 years ago and she said she misses her friends and family but does not regret moving here, the other moved here two years ago and she said the same thing.......

;) thanks
Newmum currently it takes me an hour and 30 minutes to get to work (its 34 kilometres) and my husband leaves at 5:30 then it takes him 40 minutes to work else it takes him 2 hours if he leaves later; so 10 minutes will be heaven !!!!
I am sure we are going to miss family and friends but I think the benefits will far outway the negative !!!!
