So, who's online? I'm babysitting and waiting for the 'baby's' parents to come pick her up sometime in the next hour... so how's your day been? (I'm bored)

Been pretty good here. I found out today that a friend of mine (who I've known since I was 5 and even worked with for 4 years) has been courting an Aussie for the last 2 months and they just got engaged! I'm so rapt for her, cause she's 27 and has wanted to be/get married for a while. He's 29 I think.

aw engagements are lovely. i hope it all goes well for them and they have a long and happy life together. how did they meet? 2 months isnt long, but a friend of mine met her man on a website, and they met, moved in together within 6 weeks, engaged within 3 months and married about 6 months after that.
hmm no it must be less than that, as they got married a year after us, and the funny part is my cousin brought him to my wedding, where my friend was a guest. and then things fell apart with my cuz and this guy, only for it to go so well with my friend and him!
anyway, they are having their first baby in december, so it has worked out so well for them. i hope your friend is as happy.

My engaged friends had a mutual friend who passed along information to the would-be suitor. There was 7mos of communications between the suitor and my friend's father, before they met. Kinda old-fashioned but also sweet (it's not an arranged marriage, they both look very happy) and this is exactly as she would have wanted - she's a Pride and Prejudice kind of girl

Because my friends, *I* am a woman, I can multi task
But also because the laptop is on the kitchen table and I have to walk past it on my way to/from the laundry with clothes etc. to pack so I sneak in for a nosy.
All packed now, off to bed to get a good nights sleep!
Teresa, we're leaving here about 9.30amish, stopping in Rotorua to pick up Kellz then heading as far as Taupo where we'll stay tomorrow night, then heading for Palmy on Mon morning.

It was good, rather quiet tonight, all babies behaving and was on with 2 other great ladies, we had a few laughs and great convos whilst doing the tube feeds. It was a fun night. Wonderful how some dynamics are just so much more fun to work with.

lol Lyla. We don't do that, we sit with 1 bubs and hold their tube and watch em the whole time.
And yep Emma, it is nice when you have babies that aren't high needs or that stop breathing and go flat on you, that's hella scary, no matter how long you've been there you always think afterwards "oh crap!" most of them are pretty good though, you only get the odd few that do such nasty things to you, and boy they do it well!

really? how many babies does the unit take? the only babies that were fed were the ones on bottles. and if the nurses were busy even they got tubed sometimes. made me so glad i was there to do all of jordis' care...

We can take up to 17 babies at a complete stretch, we only tend to have 3 or 4 staff on each shift.. all depends on the babies ages and levels of care needed too. Once babies are getting to breastfeeding mums come in and do that and we top em up if they need it, same with bottles, they take a while to get to full feeds so even if they take 5 mls from the bottle and have the rest by tube then it's done. And it's very much a safety thing too, i mean we check the tubes are in the right place, but babies move and wriggle and are wonderufl at remioving their tubes.. all you need is for one to pull out their tube while the feeds going down and it's serious risk that milk would go somewhere other than their tummy. so yep, tube feeds are watched/held for their entire duration. where was Xanthe?

Oh the girls woke up badly. Kryssi just started coughing at 5.30 and couldn't settle back to sleep. H then started coughing as well... phone call to Healthline (helpful for once!) and now we've been in a steamy bathroom for 1/2 hour. Looks like we'll be going to a/hrs docs this morning.
that you're getting ms will a baby as well!

Well it wasn't still going, but I didn't know what to do about K's cough. The steam has helped a lot and she's now feeding, I think she will go back to bed soon (and so might I!). H (the one with ear infection) now has pink eye! First time I've seen pink eye except for photos lol. She has no complaint about it (doesn't know why I keep looking at it!) but I suspect with that as well, it would be good to get another round of ABs today.
