Hi. I want to give my 6 month old a rusk as he is teething. I have heard you can get muslin bags that are safe to put food in for babys with apple or rusks to avoid choking. Can anyone tell me where I get these bags or suggest another idea? Cheers

tommee tippee have a mesh bag with a handle for babies, in the baby section of the supermarkets. we have 2, as we use them lots for things jordis loves - watermelon is great, as i can put it in there, pips and all, and she eats it all and doesnt worry about choking. mandarin is good, grapes as well. i tried apple but it was too hard.

a rusk is probably a bit hard for a 6 month old (even my 9 month old gets frustrated with them. what other solids is he on?

We gave Erin the plain rusks, Farex I think? And she was fine with them - did quite a lot of damage with just gums. Now one of her favorite snacks are the Watties cheesymite sticks, like rusk but textured. We used one of those fresh food feeder bags too, good for everything from meat through to fruit, and helped get her used to a lot of different tastes.

I found for my girls when they were teething we would freeze the water filled teething toys it worked wonders for my girls. In the tommy tippee range they have some that say they are frezzer safe.

we gave ella her first rusk on weekend and she demolished it....over a couple of days (we put in a sealed container and washed it off) - she cried when it broke in her mouth tho - no idea what she was meant to do with it then!

we also bought the muslin bags for her for this weekend to try....

and got a teething toy - baby city have some shaped like hands at moment for $2.99...throw in freezer for 30 mins and she loves it....

shes six months now!

We have the tommee tippee fresh food feeder from the baby factory. You can put anything in it really - banana is our all time favourite.
As for the rusks (we bought the Ferex ones), we've given those to Gina as they are - I think it will be pretty hard to choke on them as they are very very hard. I wanted to see what they tasted like and had trouble biting some off (after she was finished with it of course)
