I am dreading Friday, we are going to the Hawkes Bay and we are driving so its going to be a long 4 hours or so. Charlotte hates going on the car - she even whinges on a 45 minute trip into the city.
Anyone got any ideas to keep her occupied for at least part of the journey?

Can you go at night? That way she might go to sleep part way through the journey.

Go to the $2 shop and grab a couple of small things, if you get slinkies they are great, you can cut them into 1/3rds to get lots of smaller ones.

careful tho that you dont give her things and she drops them then grizzles when no one can pick them up immediately for her. maybe a tray for stuff to go on. lots of breaks and making sure she is tired and falls asleep may help. you may have to spend the trip pointing out interesting things...

Are you going by yourself? If you're going with someone else, one of you could sit in the back with her, that's what we usually do for trips.
Kids music is good.. food?! can't really remember back to when Ella was that age, but we did take her to Aussie at 16 months.

Kiddies music is great for trips.
Mega sketcher perhaps for her.
Then a tub full of small toys for her and then give her one or two and when she is bored exchange it for her.
Great if someone can sit at the back with her to give her stuff ect.
Singing songs is also great. And I am sure eventually she will just fall asleep. (here is really hoping.)
I must admit McKayla is really great in a car. Cant complain too much with her.

Thanks everyone for all your advice - it went well - the slinky was an absolute hit! I also got a huge scrapbook and some funky crayons which went down well as well as a musical xylophone - a bit annoying but she loved it! The $2 shop is a wonderful wonderful place
