so jake went missing today.
i mowed the front lawn and when i went out the back Jake had locked himself in the shed, so rescued him and started to mow the back. Finished one section and went inside. wheres Jake I asked Lew - isn;t he outside? no. so we search the house - no Jake. search outside - no jake. No I start to panic and got in the car and drove down to the park and dairy - no Jake. i ring Mum, and then the police who take a description. And then i find jake's pants. he strips regulary so ordinarily no cause for concern, but realy freaky when your child is missing. Anway as I'm talking to the cops he says , "wait, we've got a report of a found child" and it is him! They bring him over. NOw, he was found wandering on Fergusson Street (for those of you in Palmerston), near Andie's house coincidentaly and someone grabbed him and called the cops (Andie, if it was you I will kiss you!!!!) And the police brought him back. UNfortunately his little romp did nothing to upset him and he was very bright and chipper when he returned. our place is fenced so the only way I think he got out was by climbing the gate. so Lewis wants;t to put up barbed wire or something. After I had a coffee, mum had a tea and Lew had some whiskey (!!!). am still tense.

That is a long walk and across some busy roads.
You poor thing, stick some of that whiskey in your coffee.
Jake probably has no idea how much worry he's caused. Little Houdini. Hope you are OK.

i have 100% sympathy with you. my boys - both of them - went to kindy by themselves one day at 3pm over a very busy main road. no police were involved but it was scary nonetheless.
we found that gabriel was using the compost pile to climb over the fence so we put up some of that brush fence - hubby nailed it to the fence - so he cant get a foot hold any more.

Thats awful! I get such a fright if my puppy gets out, I'd be a complete and utter mess if one of the kids went for a walk!
I'm so glad he was ok

Your poor heart. I would've been in hysterics.
When I was young I was taught how to escape our yard by a cat!!! After my fourth escape my parents sat inside and watched as I dug and scrambled under the same gap that the cat had gone through.
Glad it all turned out well for you.

that brush fence thing is a good idea Deb - Cause he climbs up and opens the gate. I originally didn't think he had gone that way as he usually leaves the gate open.;
I asked him last night why he walked off and he said he was going to find "Gran" (my step mother) - Grandad had spent the weekend with us and Jake had spent all weekend asking about Gran who was in Hamilton - so maybe that was the catalyst.
and yes, he crossed a main busy street. apparently whoever picked him saw him streaking down the road )still no pants on - oh the shame)

if you take away his toe and hand holds he may not try it again.
and aprilfools i was laughing at your story cause gabriel tries to follow our cat too and is always stressing if she gets out and he hasnt.

Deb, I read that initially as "if tyou take away his toes and hands" and I thought, well, that may be a bit extreme.
should read more carefully in future
