single mum next week. DH is off to Trentham Army camp for selection and hopefully he gets in as an officer.

Me and my friend (her DH has just gone overseas for the week) are calling ourselves the "Horn widows" (as we both play Eb Horn in band). Hopefully the week passes fast and no major issues arise with my children.

Good luck for both you and DH Becks, hope his selection is successful and that those gorgeous boys of yours behave while their daddy is away.

Next year 7 weeks straight up in Waioru for basic. 2 weeks holiday then back up to Waioru for 9 months Monday to Friday (we can move up there if we want to but we won't) doing officer stuff. Then 3 months back in Trentham doing Engineering stuff then back to Linton (thats were he should get posted to but if CHCH then we'll move and rent our house out) to be an officer.

Good luck, hope your week goes smoothly, I'm sure there is enough palmy mums about being the school hols if you need a sanity fix and we could always meet at the park or something if you want, since the weather has been so great! Well not so great today but we did need a splash of rain esp for us on tank water!

Yep and I can see my self going even more crazy if I was living there nothing to do.

First day was ok other than Josh deciding to throw up in his sleep again. Hopefully that is all finished now.

Congrats to your DH Becks. It sounds like there'll be some major changes in your lives next year. Do you know exactly where he'll be based?

What kinda officer is he signing up to be? You'll be on your own for most of the year, they have pretty good support for the officer wives at Linton.

At this stage, i'm going to stay in Palmy (in our house) while he goes off and does all his training. He will "probably" be based in Linton as he is going in Engineering and most of them are in Linton. If we have to move to CHCH i'll move thats no problem.

One good thing - at least I can now go over to my parents place a few times a year now to see them, i've already booked their place after DH does his basic, in the small break he gets between basic and officer training.

Very superficial but i'm looking forward to the money as well - after living on the sickness benefit, the salary he gets will be OMG!!!

The salary & all the little extras are good (my DH is in the navy). Since we have a mortgage DH gets paid extra $$ each pay towards it. I presume it's a NZDF thing so you should benefit from that too...

Oh please let me know what benefits you get, i'd love to know as we have a huge (well its not that huge when I think about it) mortgage.

Becks if you have a mortgage the Army will pay towards your mortgage, its called dtls, get your DH to get a letter from manning to give to your bank, the banks in Palmy deal with this all the time so they know what they're doing. Not sure how much it is % of interest I think, for us it amounts to another 5k a year to DFs salary.
