A friend and I took our kids to see the Kinder Dream Storybook circus today, they're an offshoot of the Weber Bros circus that tours around NZ.We've been to Weber Bros. shows and been impressed, but I was really disappointed today.
The only act that actually impressed me was two female contortionists, the rest of it was pretty lame, and two things really disturbed me. One was a clown act where the clowns spat water at the audience - I am soooo not into being spat on! And the other was a trampoline act which aside from being no more clever than anything a reasonably competent kid could do, also contained nasty sexual references and was rather lewd, made me glad Maya is just that wee bit too young to catch the drift, my friend was less impressed coz her 11 year old son definitely got the point. They market it for under-10's but this particular act was soooo inappropriate! Mind you, I do always feel a bit icky when we go to the circus, you can't help but feel there's this seamy underbelly and that behind the scenes there's a whole incestuous little world of circus folk. There were a few kids in the show who couldn't have been more than 7-8, makes you wonder what sort of future aspirations they might have. -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

haha i feel the same way about the circus, there is just something seedy about it all.
Im not sure if its the same one but my hubby and friend took the kids to it (fathers day out) and our friends wee girl just screamed from the start because apparently it went all dark and then smoky and a face appeared or something like that, really quite scary for a little one. They ended up having to leave |
