okay am being lazy i know but thought would get your opinions on good or bad car seats, we brought our last one from the warehouse and it has done us well, but when i went in last week they didnt seem to stock them anymore.
so we dont want to spend a fortune, and so long as it meets the nz and oz safety standards i am ok with that. one that goes from rear to forward facing is prob needed too. my son is not quite 6kg yet and is 4 mths but is getting too long for his capsule.

any ideas or suggestions most welcome.

I love our safe n sound guardian. Although i think safe n sound are prob the most expensive. I shopped around and www.winkalotts.co.nz were the cheapest. Actually we gave Jayde Alyssa's guardian and i brought Alyssa a safe n sound booster seat from winkalotts.

we had an evenflo newborn capsule but will need to get a new one when we get home. We never use one here as we only travel by train.

Evenflo were good though, although for those travelling in summer watch out for the seatbelts. Our car wasn't in the sun, but the belt buckle still heated up really badly and I kinda burnt Jake a little on his thigh when he was a bubba.

i hired acapsule then got given a saf-n-sound compaq (rear and fowrad facing) for Xander.hes still in it but only just and am moving him to a booster seat.we bought a 2nd hand capsule of TM for Harmony and shes just about too long for it too(the seat goes up to 13kg/1yr approx).when X goes into his booster then H will have the compaq rear facing till shes too long for it then switch her to foward. This may not be wot u r after but i no theres a seat by evenflo(?) from 9kg+ which is foward facing and 5 pt harness plus can be used as booster till 5 yrs approx (or when they go to half booster).it is pricey being around $250 but when u work out the price on normal seat then booster on top of that it may work out cheaper in the long run to go for the seat i mentioned??????

Good luck with ur descion making( i hate doing it lol)

Paris had to be moved up to a forward facing at about 7 months cos by then her legs were so long she was practically sitting crosslegged with her legs against the back seat - apparently plunket says it's only if their head reaches the top that you should change but i wasn't squishing her legs up for any longer.

we brought a safe and sound one from a friend, haven't really looked what type but it's a pretty new one i think, her girl is only a year older than paris so the carseat's maybe 2 years old if that. and paris is using that right now, but once ayja is ready to move up, she will go into that - we will get paris a phil and teds booster/car seat - no, i'm not obsessed with phil and teds, lol but they have one that is about $100-ish, and it says you can actually use it from 6 months onwards cos it has a full harness, so we figured it would be kewl to get that one for paris and still have the full harness for her, and ayja can have the adjustable one.

I have a Guardian Safe & Sound which is great. It will also hold up to 18kg (5 yrs) so no need to get a booster seat if the child still fits :) They come on special at Farmers quite often, especially Labour weekend, Boxing Day, etc. so watch out for the specials! ;)

Maya's got the Evenflo booster that has the proper harness that Becs is talking about, it's called the Evenflo Apollo and it was $199 at Baby Factory. Will do from 6 mths to approx 40kg (around 7 years!), you just remove the 5 point harness as baby gets bigger and use a normal seatbelt.

Yep, the full harness is great. Maya is pretty tall and she still has one hole to go up before I have to take the harness out so I'm figuring another year or so. It just seems safer than a normal booster seat.
