Natasha (11) dropped Alyssa on Tuesday evening.
I had just told her to hold her properly as she was doing something that looked kind of unsave so she came over by me and sat her ontop of the dresser, I thought she was holding her but she just had her arms around her with a gap at the front so Alyssa slipped down in between the dresser and Natasha. I couldn't beleive it I was standing right there beside her and didn't even see it happen. Anyway I picked Alyssa up. Screamed at Natasha (mad psyco mummy stuff!!!) sent her to her room and tried to settle Alyssa, I knew something was wrong she doesn't usually cry much even if she gets hurt. And having two big sisters she gets her fair share of knocks. So I stripped off her trousers and her left leg was a bit red and her foot was a bit splotchy. Then when I held her up she held up her little leg like a lame puppy.
So off me raced to A&E. As usual by the time we arrived she seemed OK but the Dr said we will check her anyway as babies often stop crying in their car seats as they don't move much. So we had an xray and sure enough her left tibia is fractured down by her ankle. My poor baby, now she will be in a cast for four weeks.
Then when I got home "much calmer now" I find out my Mother has been torturing Natasha making her clean the house, telling her how stupid she is, talking on the phone loudly to other people saying she must be jealous etc etc. I couldn't beleive it she makes me so angry sometimes, this is typical of my mother
There is no way Natasha did it on purpose she's just not that type of kid, she may be a bit thoughtless and ditzy sometimes but it was an accident and she felt sooooo bad. Poor kid I said sorry for going off at her myself and then she told me what her Nana had done grrrrrrr. So I had a go at Mum and made her say sorry to Tasha. Gee what a night.
So now two days later Alyssa is happy as. I'm glad she couldn't crawl before because this would be very frustrating for her but she is happy to sit and play and can still roll over.... one way! And poor old Tasha is feeling so terrible she hates that everybody knows she broke the baby. Oh dear I try not to give her a hard time , I don't want her to spend all her time feeling guilty but I must say I have been watching her when she holds Alyssa.
Now my DH doesn't want to go out of the house with Alyssa, as he thinks people are looking at him thinking "look at that Maori guy with the baby with the broken leg". I must say I have wondered myself how a six month old can possibly break a leg...well now I know !!!.

Ah, everyone who judges can feck off. ARGH.
So so sorry to hear about your poor little one and her broken leg. And I also feel reeeally sorry for your other little girl too, they pick up guilt really easily at that age. I hope she gets over it soon. And I hope the leg heals fast
What a night huh?

Thats awful Shaz! Natasha must feel awful and that poor little Alyssa
People on the streets always look so judging because of all the child abuse and things, I can understand why DH doesn't want to take her out. I've had some awful looks from people on the street when I was shopping with Miya when she had a black eye from walking into the corner of a chair.

So sorry to hear about your poor little Alyssa. And her big sister must feel so bad. I'm sure in years to come Alyssa will bring it up at times when she wants something from her sister.
"can you please drop me off at a party Natasha?"
"no"
"hmmm, you know my leg still aches from when you broke it as a baby"
"ok, ill drop you off"

aww I sure you are all feeling rather guilty all the same... No worries (although I can't say she doesn't break - cause she does ) but things happen. I so see where you are coming from with goingout with a baby with a broken leg - but you yourself know you are totally inocent and so as Nikki said 'stuff what other people say'

Just to (maybe) make you feel a little better: my little brother broke his arm at a similar age, and it was 3 days before we noticed! He cried all the time, so nobody thought anything of it... it wasn't until Mum realised his arm was at a funny angle that she got it checked out. So this 6mth old had a cast that went all the way up to his armpit! We think my sister (who was 2yo at the time) climbed into the cot and leaned on his arm when it was stuck between the bars.
Kiya fell over a few years ago on a grassy field and broke both the bones in her forearm. She got quite annoyed with the doctors at the hospital because they kept asking her what she hit when she fell over and she kept answering "There was nothing there, just grass!"
Anyone who thinks there is a problem should take a good look at themselves instead. YOU know what happened, and that it was an accident. Don't feel you have to justify yourself to complete strangers Same for Natasha - and one day she'll realise it too.
Oh - and good on you for getting your mum to apologise! Sounds like the sort of stunt my mother would pull, except mine would be more likely to take it out on me for letting my child hold the other.
