Everyone will be starting to think I'm a of a dimwit or something!! But I'm still trying to figure out what nappies to get for when the baby arrives (and I know I still have awhile but it's something I'd like to have sorted and sussed - at least in my head) and the more I look into it the more confused I get!
But my question at the moment for those of you who have used the pocket style forom early on how have you found it for all the 'runny explosive poo' that I keep hearing about (how long does this type of poo last for also)?? Have the pockets managed to contain it? Or would something else really be better? So sorry for all the questions - but you guys are so great, very informative and helpful!!!

Mine wasn't in cloth early on as I had wee leakage issues with the first lot of nappies I had but now he is in Mummy's touch pocket nappies and we haven't had any big poo leakage with those. My bub did manage to poo explode out of disposables though so I think maybe sometimes you just have to except that nothing is 100% leak free. I found swaddlebee pocket nappies totally useless at everything and ended up taking them back for a refund.
Bub can still pee through my cloth and disposable nappies on occasion, so I just have to be prepared to take a couple of changes of clothes for him everywhere I go just in case, and the occasional small poo leak sometimes happens too, usually around the leg area.
Hope that helps a bit

We found that my pockets with roll out fleece worked better on him early on. Reason being is because the elastic isn't stitched down it was far less likely to gape around his skinny lil legs so kept everything inside the nappies. Because it's not stitched down it stays by the legs all the time and found that stitched down fleece could sometimes get little gaps around his lil legs. All you have to do with roll out fleece is make sure the fleece is tucked inside. My ones that had elastic stitched down around the legs still did the job most of the time but we did have lil poo leaks semi regularly.

even when my kids were older if they had a runny poo it would leak out the legs of their fuzzis so dont imagine it would be that good for a newborn. but yeah disposables never contained runny ones that well anyway either.

Yep, second on the disposables leaking at times. Like cuppatea said, sometimes you just have to accept that it's gonna happen! (And make sure you carry some sort of plastic bag and a change of clothes on you at all times. You don't wanna be caught short when it does happen!! )

Oops, so what I am saying is, no pockets aren't the best to contain it all. A good over and a fitted is apparently the best option. But I still think that if I was going to go with a system, I'd choose pockets.

If they are going to explode sometimes nothing will contain them....its what babies do from time to time....just like power chucks!!

As we speak my little monster is "half" on my boob, giggling and filling his nap!!!oh joy

I can honestly say that although we have had some poo splosions in sposies, we have never had one in a pocket nappy. In saying that if you leave it on for a while after the poo we have had it starting to seep slightly through the seams in the legs   Never to the same extent though. The couple Sam has had in sposies went up to the neck, and once even all up her front! I love that the pocket nappies (I use Fuzzis mainly) keep it in the nappy!

awww I remember when that happend for the first time! I was on the phone to my best mate and we both cried LOL

Anyways... Caitlin was in pockets from birth pretty much and even back when she was an exploding breastfed critter our Fuzzis pretty much contained it all, but Caitlin has decent thighs so her nappies have always fitted her properly (no gapeing).

We started Sam in them pretty much from about 2 weeks old but only had a couple so alternated with sposies. I hated the sposies and found the pockets were so much nicer on her little newborn butt. She was a tiny baby and still isn't huge now and no leaks...ever

i'd highly recommend cover/prefold on a newbie bubba but i think you are going to get poo leaks from time to time with whatever you use.   always take a spare complete outfit wherever you go!

charli was in pockets from about 3-4mths i think.

yay for feeling kicks!!!
