Hi everyone
I live in Rotorua and having a real hard time finding a midwife due to the fact that i will be having a c-section and that i see a specialist Can anyone help please?i have rung 5 already and they all said 'no'

That's really stink that you can't find one Tania.. this sounds terrible - but alot would probably say no because they don't actually get paid if you have a c-section.... cos that comes under the hospital funding system instead.... i hope you find someone nice to say yes to you. good luck.

Can you specialist refer you to a midwife coz sometimes they have their own midwifes there??

Tania... I had Carolyn Fitch, she was great but only takes on a few ladies so I'm not sure she'll take you.
Trish is also brilliant, a british lady, sorry I don't know her last name. She was my Mum's midwife with my little brother and then did a few of my appointments near the end.
There is a lady named Karen with 'Births r us' I think. I would advise not to go to her. She was my backup midwife and I was glad that my midwife pulled through. A few people I know have had her (and I attended an appointment with her) and she was sometimes a bit unnecessarily harsh. (Although the girl I went with probably needed it.)
My friend had Lorraine and she said she was great.

Good luck! I can ask Carolyn if she knows of any free midwives if you'd like? I'm catching up with her when I'm in Rotorua next on the 19th of Nov.

Tania, why don't you talk to your specialist and see if he can orgnise shared care? This is when the spec does the birth and the midwife does the before and after and they split the fee! Good luck!! I hope it works out...

Hi there, thanks everyone for your help.Yes it is stink when we have this much trouble finding a midwife,I understand how they feel but this is an important time and I think the health system has really messed up by stopping doctors being able to deliver(if thats who did it)
Nikkiwhyte;I would really appreciate your help as a few of the people here have had really bad experiences with midwives when they found out they were having c-sections.When I spoke to my specialists nurse she told me that Rotorua Hosp dont have midwives based there yet but were working on it.Its hard because I need my blood pressure checked weekly,so maybe I should go to my GP until my next spec app on the 29th Nov???

i so didnt realise they did that - as soon as i found out i was having twins was sent to specialist by m/w and used to see him every 2 weeks and see my m/w evry month. was sposed to become more as i got further along but had the boys early instead. and i was never going to have the boys at the hosp where my m/w worked (taihape) as i wasnt allowed but knew i was going to go to palmy nth and that my specialist was going to be there along with every man and his dog it seemed lol. my m/w came in the ambulance with me and stayed for most of my labour but had to go back with the ambo dude. so i really wasnt ever aware that this could be an issue. i think it sucks!!!!! i hope you get someone sorted asap cos you really need that support.

Tania, I can't be of much help about midwives who have dealt with women who have c-sections but I will ask Carolyn about midwives when I get back next weekend.

Rotorua maternity and perinatal ward is fantastic and the midwives are so helpful and supportive. A much nicer stay than some of the other hospitals

I hope you find someone to help you
