At what age did your children start playing with Lego? (Well actually duplo or mega blocks - you know, the big chunky stuff!)

I mean properly playing, putting the bits together to make towers etc, knowing which ends connected together and how to turn them to fit properly.

I remember we got Josiah some Quattro (bigger than duplo) for his first birthday but he didn't really start playing with it for a couple more months... Kiya was a similar age too... but Xavier is playing like that already! He fits stuff together, and seems to know that the quattro doesn't fit the duplo or the megablocks (yes, we've got bits of all 3 types). He's 11 months old. Does this seem early to anyone else?

I *think* Andrew was about that age as well, but he did have help from daycare.

I wonder if this is a case of younger following elder... We got our girls some megabloks (duplo) for Christmas last year and Briona joined two bits together right away! She was 17mos then though.

Maybe your other 2 would have been able to do it earlier but they weren't given it until a bit older and X is learning from watching the others. Or he could be very advanced and going to be an engineer!

It prob is early which is great, it also means he must be watching and taking things in!!!   Both our girls were doing the same, we used to make things with Ashlyn all the time and you know how they watch whats going on ..... and Anastasia just followed on, we now have a big container full as it turns into a family affair when we get started!!!

Erin plays with hers, and we got her a Little Mermaid mini Mega Bloks set just before she turned one I think. I am keen to get her some more for Xmas.

Not sure if is a case of "copy the older ones" or not... both the others had access to lego before they were one (Kiya got some megablocks for her first christmas at 9 months, she was given some duplo at 2 so Josiah had the megablocks from about 7 months) and I don't remember either of them playing with it until they were at least 14 months old.
