Hi all..

Ok so my daughter is 9 weeks old today and we still have not seen plunket. They never contacted me and when i contacted them 2 weeks ago they made an appointment for today, which they cancelled this morning. Now we wont get another apointment for a couple of weeks. I want to talk to someone about her.. see what she weighs.. you know, just make sure shes ok and im doing everything right.. Is there someone else i can see? Could i just go see my family gp?

Yes, I go see my gp for visits, you can just make an appointment with the nurse if you just want her weighed, but if you are concerned about her feeding etc maybe see the gp as well.
Plunket are crap!!!! Having said that do they have an open clinic near you, then you could just drop in and get her weighed and perhaps just talk to whoever is running the clinic.

If it is a large gp practise they usually have a wellchild nurse that you can see. Also ask you LMC (i''m sure she would still offer you help) what you should do.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I was going to also say, yep the gp is fine, otherwise go visit Plunket yourself.

Do you have any other Well Child providers in your community - I know a lot of places also have the maori ones (but not just if you are maori!) and have heard lots of good things about them.

I would go to your doctor or there are certain plunkets that have a clinic every week. I think Riccarton or Bishopdale run one, just ring and ask when and where and you basically just take your baby in and wait in line!

You can just rock on up to a plunket family centre and ask for her to be weighed.. I've always just shown up to ours without an appt

Man, it sounds like the big cities suck when it comes to this sort of thing! My plunket nurse took over my care as soon as my MW had discharged me, and shes done 3 home visits so far. The first one, she offered to make me some breakfast because I hadn't got round to having any!! And I have a plunket group I go to once a week for 6 weeks plus they have a 'drop-in' clinic where you can just rock up to get bubs weighed and checked over (good way to meet other mums too). I think with small towns you get a lot more personalised care...

they often try to cancel appts - i just refuse to let them and demand that i see who ever else is there now....worked wonders and my plunket nurse now is lovely.....mind you i think she is now the 4th or 5th! and i had to harass them to get them to visit....ummmm white girl in area which crosses into otara....me thinks they were never putting me on a priority!

We have the crapiest plunket in our area!!! iv seen first hand through my sister and sister inlaw and friends. We had an awsome plunket nurse in Tauranga for Bailey so we have continued to see her and now Astin is under her care. I feel the 1.5 hour drive is worth it to get great service!!!!

I was comparing Bays book to my neices who is the same age - she has only been seen 4 times in her 3.5 yrs! and Bay has been seen 19 times!!!!!!

I guess its just hit and miss on getting good plunket service

On that note, perhaps we should all be donating to make sure this service continues to improve and grow (it clearly needs to in some areas!)

If the government funded plunket we could have the Karitane Hospitals back too and they were good

They could have given plunket the 20 million that they have given to try and win the stupid americas cup.
Personally the only good experience I have had with plunket was at the family center, I left a donation there. I will not be bothering with plunket for #2 as far as I see they do no more than what my gp does, and I would trust my doctor over a plunket nurse any day.

Very sad that for all those that have had bad experience with plunket, which I must say is way under funded!! I think we have a pretty good service in Palmy well I have always had good service.
