Hey there,

Just a Q, when did everyone who is/has been pregnant notice the sensitivity to certain smells?

Did anyone notice it before the nausea set in?

(Asking on behalf of friend who doesn't know if she is, BFN so far, irregular so doesn't know when AF is due)

Yip - I was sensitive to smell from early on - before the nausea.

I think, not sure though, that the smell thing kicked in after the nausea.

I felt the nausea before my smell went sensitive. I had my pregnancy confirmed before the smell thing. Worst thing was being stuck in a meeting with sweet chilli muffins and pesto sitting on a table behind me

I was only sensitive to the smell of alcohol at about 14DPO onwards (so pretty much right when AF was due).

It smelt like jet fuel or something and I couldn't get near it (not that I wanted to) but that was it. That being said I didn't suffer from MS - not sure if that's a factor.

I was definitely sensitive to smell before I knew I was preggers... my flatmate cooked a garlic-y meal and I had to go outside to get air! Also the smell of coffee, alcohol, exhaust and cooking oil was particularly bad. I started throwing up because of MS about a week after I noticed things starting to smell really strongly. I couldn't even wear deoderant anymore, and wouldn't let DH either. Lol.

I was sensitive to smell before I knew I was pregnant. Suddenly, I couldn't go in the fridge or pantry without gagging and sometimes being sick in the sink. Even when my DF cleaned it all out for me regularly.

I found I was pregnant at 6 weeks. The sensitivity to smell increased, and thus the nausea. I do believe that it played a huge role in my morning sickness. I still have the sensitivity, but no longer hurling (just to put it nicely haha). It was at its worse from about week 8 to week 21.

I was also sensitive to smell before realising I was pregnant, it is what made me do the test.  Alcohol and coffee were the main ones, they smelt like bad garlic breath.....  The thought still makes me cringe!  The MS starting about two weeks later but only until I was 10 weeks then everything went back to normal. Lucky me.
