Willie just called to say that his best mate at work has been in an accident on the motorway out by Takanini and it sounds pretty serious, apparently they are cutting him out of the truck at the moment. Willie said their other mate was in front of him and saw the whole thing and he reckons Jim either fell asleep or had a heart attack coz the truck just went swerving off the road. Willie's going to call me when he hears anything but I am so worried! I hate when things like this happen, it reminds me how vulnerable Willie is when he's out there on the road.  -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

Heard about a truck jack knifing on Breakfast this morning too but sorry I didnt pay attention to details.
Hope its all ok. I worry every day aboutDHdriving an hour to work along SH1 (we are hoping to shift closer soon). But a friend told me that apparently by telling someone to "drive safely" actually reduces their risk of having an accident. I always tell DH "love you, drive safely" when he leaves in the morning. So I am sure you are "protecting" Willie. |

I think everyone heard it on the radio this morning It's headline news.
Latest update from Willie is that Jim is at Middlemore hospital but that's all he knows so far. He's trying to get hold of Jim's daughter who is with him to find out more, and I'm thinking about heading out there a bit later on to see how the family are doing. It's the same mate who's wife passed away very suddenly a few months back so I can only imagine what their kids are going thru now ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)

It's a good lesson in not being selfish ...
I hear on the radio while on my way to work, just after I got on the motorway (admittedly, I just heard that there'd been an accident and the traffic snarl was at Takanini) and I thought ... Yay! All the traffic is stuck behind me which means it'll be a cruisy run in after a long weekend ...
It pays to stop and think about how something that may not really matter to you may have an enormous and wide-reaching impact on others. I hope he is ok....i recall you telling us about him losing his wife not long ago.
BTW i knew something was up - my sec was over 30 mins late (traffic blocked back roads all thru south auck) and another office person who lives in puke was over an hour late....and cursing the traffic when she arrived....

My DH also drives a truck so I know how horrible it can be hearing that sort of thing on the radio/TV!
I hope Jim is okay... DH knows a few of the S & D guys so he was quite shocked to see it was one of their trucks!

My blood ran cold when I saw the pic in the Herald of the mangled truck, just thinking there but for the grace of God it might have been Willie. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. Jimbob is doing OK, he is home but very shaken. This is his second major accident in two years, the last was out at Glenbrook when a car crossed the centre line but someone was killed that time, so this must bring back a lot of awful memories for him ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)
