Hi there
I'm just wondering how many of you are planning on buying specialist breastfeeding tops? (& if so, where from?). I guess what I'm wanting to know is are these tops really necessary or can we get away with "normal" tops that have easy access such as buttons etc? I'm thinking that it won't matter too much if I'm just at home but if I'm out & about I doubt I'll be wanting to flash my belly to the world  -------------

I just wore normal tops - the specialist ones just seemed really expensive! I did have a breastfeeding singlet from Farmers though which was good to wear under things when you were out & about as it meant your tummy was still covered up. Otherwise I just threw a muslin cloth over my shoulder to keep everything covered. ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

Yep me too - I just wore normal tops, usually a singlet which I could pull down and another top/shirt over the top. Though I guess you'll be b/feeding in the middle of summer so won't want too many layers. I just made do with my normal clothes, I would just wear something that had buttons or zip down the front. My boobs are quite small so I would have had to have pulled my top up over my head for him to get to them if wearing something that didn't button. You could just use a classic cloth nappy or something to cover your belly. -------------

I just use 'accessible' clothes and cover up with a blanket. . Find those singlets good at night time but don't support me enough to go out in.

They were too expensive for us, I mostly wear t-shirts one size up so I can pull them up. If they have enough roominess (but not necessarily baggy) you can still cover your belly. Otherwise I like belly bands (TradeMe). I prefer not to button down, that makes me feel more exposed. -------------  |

I've bought a singlet - which I haven't used yet, and a short sleeved top from 'breastmates' - found thru this site. It was a really good price and I've found it useful especially getting into the swing of things with breastfeeding. -------------

I was the same with wearing normal clothes, and bellybands are great for pregnany aswell as breastfeeding, going to be wearing them this summer while breastfeeding, not sure if those tops go up to my size anyway = 2XL, then again, I think "Hideaways" do, they are local and do nationwide, but then again too expensive! ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

I just wear my normal clothes. At home or around family and friends etc i just wip my shirt up and i dont really care whats hanging out! lol but when im out in public i just put a burp cloth or blanket tucked up under boob and covering tummy and have my shirt leaning on Astins cheek so noone can see anything anyway.

I have three breastfeeding tops, but to be honest even when I wear them I just treat them like a normal top. i.e. lift it up and feed. I actually find Lucy is more likely to expose me when I'm wearing the breastfeeding top as she is more likely to get tangled up in the layers of clothing.
So no, you don't need them. The only thing I suggest is to have things that are stretchy. |

I suspected they weren't really required (& yes they're certainly not cheap). I do have a feeding singlet which will probably be put to good use... -------------

I've just got off trademe from melonbellies a expandable belly band. It's like the samller version that covers the gap between the top of your pants and the bottom of your top but this one is really long so if you don't want to expose your tummy you can just pull it up to hide it! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I find Tom dribbles and I squirt so I always have a cloth nappy under my boob and that covers my tummy. I just use normal tops but make sure I can lift them up and preferably only one side at a time 
At night time I wear pj bottoms and tight t-shirts that hold my breast pads secure. I have never worn a bra to bed and have big boobs and no probs. Just make sure the singlets are firm. Maybe the breast feeding singlets would be good. I also find I need heaps of them as you really only want to wear them once before you have leaky milk on them..yuk!! you do get sick of smelling of milk

I got some and loved them! Very discreet. You can b'feed in front of others without a fear that anything will show. And I still wear them even though I'm not b'feeding as they are so comfy.

I have 2 singlets form Farmers and they were great. I wore one while pregnant so it was nice and stretched and the other one I kept to wear at night. I got 1 for xmas and 1 on sale so didn't cost too much. Other than those I just pulled my top up. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |
