When she's sick, she's REALLY sick!

Not only does she have that gastro bug (been throwing up since Monday), but also has an ear AND throat infection!

Her temp at the GPs was 39.2 we were ordered to stay there until it was below 38, 3 hours later we were allowed to go home with a bag full of pamol, brufen and antibiotics and told to take her temp every 2 hours and if it goes above 38.5 we're to take her straight to hospital

My poor little girl

thanks ladies *warm fuzzies*

We had her in bed with us last night, I was too scared to leave her

She's been dosed up with all her meds and is heaps better this morning but is still refusing water "no no no mumma" she's so strong willed! So we're still forcing it into her with a dropper but her over night napy was nice and wet so at least she's getting some fluids.

I feel like death warmed up as I haven't had a proper sleep since the weekend DH is staying home this morning and my parents are coming over later today so hopefully I'll get some rest.

sounds like things are looking up then... maybe you could both spend time just sitting on the couch eating ice blocks... Hope you get a rest today too and tonight is a better night too.

I tried youir ice block suggestion (with my brand new Tupperware ice block makers ) and she was far from impressed with that. I enjoyed them tho

what do you do when they won't eat or sleep or drink ANYTHING but are acting like they are fine?

yesterday she let me use the medicine dropper to give her water (after I did it, then it was ok for her to do it, lil madam! ) but today I think she has had 50mls of water at the very most and most of that was tonight from Daddy's pump bottle.

I can already see in her face that she has lost weight, she hasn't eaten since Sunday

She's taking her meds ok and doesn't have a high temp but what can I do to get her to eat & drink!?!? Am very worried she'll end up in hospital

when the boys are sick we go for
yoghurt
jelly
ice cream

I know I don't eat much for a few days after a bug...it is bodies way of protecting itself. Maybe try one of those probiotic drink thingys from the yoghurt section of the supermaket? It worked for Elle and is good for building up the good bacteria again. DH also said having one of those made him feel heaps better after his. The gut has to rest a bit and heal after a bug.

She will eventually start eating again and will probably eat loads for a few days to make up for lost time.

She slept through last night, woke at 6am and is now back in bed after falling asleep on the floor

She's had a few nibbles of toast and about 100mls of milk so she's already had more than the last few days put together.

Will definitely go and get her some of that yoghurt Fiona, thanks

She went downhill again pretty fast yesterday afternoon and we ended up at Starship for rehydration.

We had to force 5mls of pedialyte into her every minute which I thought was a bit much considering she hadn't really had anything for a least 3 days so of course she threw it all back up at us.

We were sent home after 5 hours and she slept ok. Had a bit of brekkie this morning but was sick again. Just trying to get some water into her as that is all she will accept

I hope Caitlin will get better soon. We had it a bit rough this side too. McKayla so nearly landed in hospital. If it wasnt that she was taking breastmilk they would have. We had 3 days of no absolutely no urine. Poor child.

Dont worry so much about the solids. Just look at her fluid intake. We have some of that pedalyte stuff at home and what I did was give 3ml every ten minutes. If she wanted more I gave more. Otherwise I just kept up with that. And then off course breastmilk. Now that she is a bit better she just wants more boobs off course. So much for the down to 3 times a day. Aaah well. At least she smiles again.

Hope Caitlin is all better really soon and mommy can get some rest. I am buggered up. Even started with a flever blister and nose bleeds again. Sigh.

Aaah and I just had to laugh about the bit of going to hospital and she is playing and goofing around as if nothing is wrong. When we got to A&E she looked fine and didnt cry anymore and I could see the receptionist looking at me as if I am a super paranoid mom.

But boy they got a nurse the next minute when McKayla started puking all over me. Wasnt that paranoid afterall. lol

Another thing that worked was really weak diluted apple juice. Like really weak. She took that more readily than just water. Milk and yogurt made her throw up this side unless it was breastmilk. (doesnt make things easier does it). I used a syringe. Seemed to be easier to get fluids in and made a game of it.

I really hope she gets better really soon for you.

After she had thrown up for the 3rd time in an hour (all bile (sp?)) I called Starship and they told us to bring her in again They gave her more pedialyte and attached a urine bag to her to make sure she was definitely peeing. She did but only a little, little is better than nothing apparently. She's just vomited again but no where near what she has been and is taking the pedialyte now without a fight so the Drs were happy to have her home but if she crashes again we have to go straight back. She's lost a total of 600grams this weeks

This gastro bug is like an epidemic! There were 3 other kiddies in the ward being force fed the pedialyte whilst we were there this afternoon

Aaah no. Dont know what is going on. Seems it is everywhere. I feel really sorry for you guys. Seems we are over the worst. Feel for you with the weightloss. Here we lost 1,4 kg in one day. I didnt even bother looking after that as I was getting way too scared.

Poor Caitlin, she's had a really rough go of it!
Gastro really is an epidemic in kiddies at the moment. Benjy lost a kilo and a half with his week of it and now he's sick again just a week later.
Hope all these sick bubbas (and their mums) get better quickly!

today has been a very good day so far *touches wood* she hasn't thrown up at all and has been drinking lots of water and taking her meds without a fuss and even helped herself to Daddy's nuggetts at lunch DH hadn't even realised what she was doing (standing right in front of him and snatching them off his plate! must have been something good on the tv! )

We're now down 700grams, hopefully she'll start to put it on again now. She looks so different!

That's fantastic that she is feeling better now, i'm sure she will be packing the weight on again in no time, especially if your DH doesn't keep an eye on his plate

Hope Caitlin is still doing well tonight, I agree that there is an epidemic of it, my Sienna has been pooing and spewing since yesterday (but don't you dare blame C Toni, it was more likely something we shared with Benjy and Kaia on Wed seeing as they both have it too )
