sleeping through the night???

Joy slept from 10.30 last night til 6.20 this morning. Although it was great to get a decent sleep, I worry that she missed two feeds.
Will this mean that she will be awake more during the day and want even more feeds?
When did your babies start sleeping through?

Hi, I don't think there is any particular time they should sleep through. It may have just been a once off. At around that time Spencer slept through one feed (so went 6 hours) he did that 5 times in a space of a fortnight and then didn't do it again till 4 months. She may be taking bigger feeds during the day, is really hard to tell if breastfeeding. If she woke this morning and is happy, feeding well, not lethargic and doesn't have a temp or anything I would say it is perfectly ok.
And woohoo for the big sleep

oh and Spencer starting sleeping through 2 and half weeks ago, but last night he woke at 1.30am and the day before he woke at 4am, so maybe his days of sleeping through have come to an end again.

I don't think there is any hard and fast rule with this...they will do it when they are ready. As long as she's not OVERLY sleepy or showing any signs of being unwell, it might just be that she is going to be a good sleeper for you. Bella has only just started to sleep through the night but there are ladies in my plunket group whose babies slept through from day one...

Ella started sleeping 8-9 hrs at night by 8 weeks and carried on doing this until she was 12/13 weeks...then she had a HUGE growth spurt and started waking up 2-3 times at night and this is still continuing
My advice would be...enjoy it while it lasts

Wow.. make the most of it! You feel like a new woman when you and bubs have had a good sleep. Lucy slept right through the night from an early age, lets hope this new baby follows her older sisters footsteps!

Thats fine, an hour is all they need to be awake for at that age, they really do need a lot of sleep. So long as she is still waking to feed all is good

Some bubbas start sleeping through at 6 weeks ish... for ever! Kryssi did it from 6 weeks but it lasted about 2 weeks (til the next growth spurt) and then didn't restart until around 4-5 months when her solids intake was up.

Well done to Joy!
Sam actually started sleeping through around this same age and when I worried outloud to my midwife she said that if she was hungry during the night she would be waking.
Is she cluster feeding in the evening before she goes down? I found Sam would feed almost hourly for the few hours before she went down for the night and that would keep her tummy full right through

Definitely! She cluster feeds from her feed in the early evening right through to around 10/10.30pm. Very tiring but if she is going to consistently sleep through the next two feeds due to that then yay!

Yay for Joy, that is definitley a good sign that she will sleep through the nights for you then
Just smile and consider yourself lucky to be one of the mums that gets to sleep at night

Wait until she starts to bring that bedtime back earlier and earlier over the coming months! We have Sam in bed now at 7pm and she sleeps through until 7am. Apart from the odd time waking during the night. (either with teething at the moment - ick!! - or a pooey nappy).
It is so nice to get your evenings back

Oh well, it was nice for one night
We dream fed her last night at 10pm hoping that we could have the same result but it was not to be. She woke again at 3.30am but it was still quite a stretch of time.
Tonight I think we will try waking her up properly for a full feed (not just a top up) and see if that works.
Gee, one night of a good sleep and I want more!!

They like to trick you by doing it once!!!! Then not doing again. Spencer had been sleeping through for the last couple of weeks but for the last 3 nights he has woken me up at 4 then 2 and then 4 again last night. Think my sleeping nights are over again
