I have had people tell me because I have a big bump I am going to have a 10lb baby.

However I have been told I have higher than normal fluid so that could be why my bump looks big.

As far as I know the size of the bump means very little...some have a HUGE bump and have a 6 pound baby while others have smaller bumps and have a 9 pound baby. You'd think there would be a relationship between belly size and baby size but I don't think there is.

Well the girl in our coffee group who had the biggest bump had a 7.5 lb baby, so obviously there isn't always a correlation between bump size and baby.

It's a myth. You're probably pleased about that! I have average size babies and tiny bump.

no it doesnt, everyone carries differently, has different fluid levels, baby in differetn positions... i had 2 cousins recently pregnant at the same time- one was tiny and the other quite big. the bigger carrier had a 7lb baby exactly and the smaller had an 8lb5oz baby.

They've said it all. It wasn't until the day before my due date that my MW asked about big babies in the family - when she was having a bit of a feel around.

Once Blair arrived (9lb 2oz) I think there was some surprised people - especially people who had seen me in the week and a half before his turned up. I don't think I was that big (and I gained less than 10kg between wk9 and week 40.

I had a huge bump and a huge baby! 9pound 8. But one of the girls in my coffee group had a tiny bump and she had a 10 pound 8 baby! So you really don't know!

I carry small compared to my baby sizes: Kiya was an average 3.54kg (7lb 13) and Josiah was smaller at 3.18kg (7lb even), and my baby bumps were about the same size. I was a little bigger with Xavier, but after he was born at 4.02kg (8lb 14) my midwife wanted to know where I was hiding him!

Bump size doesn't usually have anything to do with baby size, in my experience.

Not in my experience!!  My 1st boy was a bonny 9pd 10oz and my 2nd was only 8pd 4oz and my bump was bigger second time around.  I think its one of those things people say to try and freak you out lol!!

I have a large bump for how far along I am - I think I might be rivaling some mummies due in early Dec! But I don't think I have a particularly large baby (well didn't on last scan) and also don't have excessive amniotic fluid.

It's just the way I'm carrying and where the baby is sitting.

I was at a fireworks evening last night and overheard a few people saying how big I was for how far along I was - love the fact that I get that behind my back! Gee thanks! Was made better when I had to ungracefully bend over to pick something off the ground.

yeah I wouldn't have except my friend was like (at the top of her voice) "can someone other than Kate pick this up for me?" and I thought bugger this! I can do it.

After two attempts with my bum in the air I finally got it and decided yeah, in the future someone else could bloody well do it.

LOL! I had big bumps & big babies. But my midwife said the size of the bump means nothing, but the fundus height is a better indicator.... She was pretty accurate at guessing the size of my first boy anyway!

Kelly, our admin lady, had the tiniest, roundest bump you ever saw and her wee girl was just born 8lb4oz, my friend who just had her baby was huuuuuge and baby was only 6lb12oz.

Small bump, Small baby here. In actual fact whilst at the hospital some of the midwifes complained that my tummy was smaller than theirs, which was really annoying cos I felt like a hippo!

I carried quite big with both Conor and Nyah and they were 9pd 9oz and 9pd 6oz. With Cooper I was definitely smaller and he was 7pd 2oz... so I think it's different for everyone....doesn't it annoy you the way people think they can predict how big your baby is going to be?
